Already completed on trip advisor! The hotel is very dated but the tea was great. Delicious homemade food and great service
Poor quality. Not fresh . Tired building needs gutting.
Lovey sunny afternoon meant we could have afternoon tea outside. Nice selection of savoury and sweet . Staff pleasant and attentive, including offering to replenish our teas.
Pleasant Sunday lunch on the patio.
Food well cooked and presented.
Chicken portion huge, fish a bit small! A bit more veg would be good.
Luckily we were given a voucher so we didn’t have to pay ourselves. Very disappointed- thought it was going to be a really nice, aesthetically pleasing, up market restaurant but it was a dated, mediocre hotel with average food and sharing the restaurant with holidaymakers staying in surrounding American motel type accommodation. It would have been nice if there had been a more exclusive, bistro style restaurant just for adults who want to visit and have a really nice, a la carte meal. All in all, the best thing about it was the location.
Amazing food and they accommodated us at a lovely table outside with our two dogs x
Double Gin & Tonic's from bar excessively expensive. When paying in cash you are not offered your change it is assumed by bar staff to be a tip. £35.00 for two double gin and tonic's is a rip off. The interior decoration is dowdy, old, unclean, unwashed, dirty. Carpet in reception and throughout was fashionable 40 years ago and everywhere was grubby. The other clientele treat the furniture as a dosshouse by putting their feet and shoes on chair cushions. We were ignored by the reception staff on entry to the building, found own way to restaurant and then bar. Food was OK but had better the day before at the Harvester in Bournemouth at half the price. We paid the restaurant bill and 10% service charge which at 5.0% would of been a rip off. We stayed from 6.30 p.m to 7.50 p.m. We were grateful that the breeze 50 bus service stopped outside to allow us to return to swanage where we finished off our evening in a pleasant environment with a selection of deserts and further reasonalbly priced drinks. Please don't think that the one stars that I have given are appropriate as this was the lowest allowed on your system. It should be a zero star. Based on our experience I can't recommend the Knowell for having a drink, staying at or eating at.
Outstanding. As good, if not better than any London hotel afternoon tea.
Very overpriced food and only one vegetarian option on menu.
Menu was very diverse, loads to choose from with daily specials also.
Fantastic, tasty starters and main courses. Puddings were all homemade and a wonderful choice. The teenagers even had seconds!
The service was excellent, prompt, attentive and professional . Filipa was brilliant. We have a nut and sesame allergy and the head waiter actually checked and gave us a specific menu which was safe to choose from.
Overall excellent and would return.
Had afternoon tea on the terrace, with sea views and lovely food. Choice of different teas and coffees, good selection of mini sandwiches, two wonderful warm scones each with jam and cream, little pots of chocolate mousse (and a box to take the other four cakes each home in) all served on a pretty tiered cake stand.
The whole experience was fantastic. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and the food was exceptional
Great value for money and the dessert was to die for
Would definitely recommend this place- oh and it’s even more like Kellermann’s from Dirty Dancing on the inside than outside.
Wonderful place for afternoon tea in the sunshine. It was our wedding anniversary and the lovely lady serving us gave us a complimentary glass of fizz. The view over Studland Bay in the sunshine was stunning.
The food was was just perfect.
All for a decent price.
Well worth a visit.
Food was terrible - bland, cold and odd mix of over and undercooked. Very expensive given how bad it was. Dining room wasn’t particularly clean and was practically deserted during Sunday lunch in August. Messed up bill and tried to charge us twice for several of the meals. Would definitely not recommend.
Gooooooooooooooooooooood option - old school dining.
Good friendly service in a fabulous location. Good music too!
Great food & service- decor needs a makeover
Most staff were friendly, although bar staff rude when asking to pay. The hotel itself it’s terribly worn down and you can’t smell the old musty dusty scent everywhere and could do with a good scrub and lick of paint.
Gréât food, great table service but a lack of communication between the kitchen and waiters led to mistakes made and an hours wait for food.
Food is nice but over priced. Service is inadequate, particularly regarding drinks. There was no knowledge of cocktail choices or non alcoholic drinks. We could also over hear other guests complaining that it took 3x to ask for their drink to arrive. Nice view from the window, but would not rush back.
We visited Knoll House for an anniversary cream tea. First the not so great. Service was disappointing - delays in service, dirty cups, food plonked on table like a sack of potatoes, had to ask for plates and cutlery. However staff were friendly and seemed a bit inexperienced and too few for number of customers. Good point was the food. Lovely selection of tasty sandwiches, warm fluffy scones (but a bit mean on clotted cream portion) and takeaway box provided on request for cakes we couldn't manage. Overall a good experience with spectacular views across Studland bay.
Good food at a reasonable price. Lovely views from the terrace.
The staff are happy, friendly and very overworked. There is clearly a shortage of staff impacting those remaining to hold the fort. Good on them, there was no sign of panic just a quiet resolve to work quickly and effectively against the odds.
Such a shame the quality of food deserves service to match. Meal time is probably twice what it should be.
While the interior of the restaurant asks for refreshment and renovation, the location is excellent and the quality of food and service is definitely above the level of the looks. We had everything served quite quickly, the staff were lovely and accommodating, and the food was really nice. A good value for money, just look outside the window and enjoy a lovely meal!
The food was of very good quality and delicious. The staff are really nice and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Excellent evening
Very slow and poor service. Staff were friendly but did not seem to know what they are doing
Food defiantly not worth £18.50 for a main !!!
Waiter was rude and seemed extremely uninterested
Lovely food and great service, an enjoyable evening
A general air of faded gentility. A lick of paint new scatter cushion, just a gentle lift to bring it up to scratch. So much wasted potential and such a glorious setting.
Excellent food, excellent service. Friendly helpful staff and wonderful delicious choice.
It was our anniversary dinner and the hotel went out of its way to make it special. Cakes and champagne as a surprise
Food and service was excellent, our first night of our stay at the hotel. Staff very pleasant despite Covid regs
Second time we had dinner there in a week as we liked it so much! Great food, good wine selection and the most friendly staff you can dream of. Special thanks to Alex and Martine for such welcoming service!
Staff very friendly and efficient. The food was excellente (feather steak and goat’ cheese fritters as mains, mackerel pate and breaded seafood as starters plus chocolate cake). The decor is very 70s (but not shabby at all) and this gives a lovely atmosphere to the restaurant! All in all a delightful evening!
We (4 of us) dined during the Covid regime which the hotel organised extremely well with social distancing etc.etc. The staff were very attentive although I am sure that their numbers were limited which led to a an acceptable delay at times . The quality and quantity of food both at breakfast and dinner was of a very high quality (especially the Feather steak for dinner .We did encounter a minor issue when the cooked salmon was not cooked through out and the restaurant manager resolved the issue in a timely and very professional manner and completely to our satisfaction .
Food was superb - nicely presented and cooked to perfection. Staff were very attentive and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Staff were so helpful My husband has diabetes so sometimes its quite hard for him to find something to select from a menu. Staff in the restaurant couldnt be more helpful especially Alex the manager. Liked the choice on the daily special
Impeccable service and fantastic food!
Part of a Travel Zoo deal
Very good choice at breakfast, well presented
Service a little slow, otherwise excellent
