Very good food in a stylish dining room. Great cocktails!
Came here for brunch and our table ordered the calamari, Smith Benedict, apple cider pancakes, and shrimp and grits. All were excellent!! Cocktails were also well made and most brunch entrees came with a free brunch cocktail. Would definitely eat here again.
I came to the Smith with my 3 elderly grandparents, 2 of them were in wheelchairs. The Smith staff was beyond helpful. The food and service was excellent. I cant say thank you enough to the Smith for such a great experience!
Food was amazing and the staff was on point! Although it took a little longer than originally anticipated for food and drinks, it was a busy Saturday night so we understood. The atmosphere was nice and generally quiet considering how busy the place was. I highly recommend the trout and the filet was perfect. Generous portions and heavy pours from the bar. Will definitely return.
We have been to this Smith before as well as in other cities. We have always had a great experience. This visit however was definitely not great. Our waiter hardly ever came back to the table after taking our order. My food was brought out almost 15 minutes before the rest of my family. When the rest was finally brought out you could tell it was forgotten about, cooked very quickly and it was way overcooked and dry. The support staff who actually bring your appetizers and food and take your plates when finished were excellent! They should be the waiters and waitresses. Tonight left a bad taste in our mouths, literally and figuratively. I don't think we will return back to this Smith again.
Went there for Thanksgiving. Service and food were great!
I love The Smith! It was my second time visiting and the food and the service were amazing!
The Thanksgiving menu was over priced for the quality of the food and service.
Went here for Thanksgiving with my girlfriend and had an amazing experience. Prompt seating, great waiter (Deondre) and delicious food. Would recommend to anyone and I will be dining here again!
Awesome Thanksgiving feast. Nice people, great service and food was outstanding. Thank you!
I normally give 5 stars to The Smith. I love it!! For Thanksgiving, I thought it was good, but I wish they had a kids menue. A three course meal is too much for a young child. All of the portions were adult size. I think it could have been much better with a few kid friendly options. Thirty something dollars (children were half price) for a kid to eat mac & cheese was a little excessive, but I guess that's life in a big city.
Food was absolutely delicious can’t wait to eat here again!
Decent experience and I would visit again! I recommend small parties though as the tables are small and it is sort of crammed and difficult to maneuver around.
Alejandro was amazing he waa able to explain the menu and offer suggestions when asked, he was attentive to our parties needs and personable.
Food was good but the service was not. Orders were brought to the table and giving to all the wrong people. Wrong bill came when we were ready to pay. Took 3/4 filled water bottle and said they were bringing a new one for us and never did. We had to ask for water to finish our meal. Not overall good service.
Booked The Smith on a Capitals game night and it was packed when we arrived. However once the fans left it was great, nice ambiance, food and service was excellent. While food and drinks were good, very pricey for a family of 4.
HORRIBLE! Reservation made at 5:45, taken to our table at 6:20 and at 6:35 no one had been to the table yet. At this point, the man next to us said they had been waiting 2 hours to get their food. We left.
The Trout Dinner was extremely small. Usually you receive an entire fish when ordering. This meal was two small pieces.
Fun dinner at the bar. Happy hour drinks are super!
We go here (and so did everyone else) for a meal before the capitals hockey game. The food and service was outstanding...!
Salmon was just ok.
The food was very salty. The hostess wasn’t friendly and the waiter seemed annoyed. The chairs were very uncomfortable and the bathroom was gross.
I will not be returning to this restaurant nor will I recommend it to friends and family.
Underwhelming food and service. Our server came by quickly to drop off water, but that was the end of any form of prompt service. She walked off hastily on the few times she came over. We ate our entire meal before we were even checked on. We would’ve returned the brunch shrimp and grits because it was close to inedible, but by the time she came over to check on us it had been nearly 20 minutes and we just wanted to leave. Would not return.
The Benedict Johnny was much better when it included grits.
Great brunch location, the food was delish, but the restrooms needed services
The eggs Benedict was not good, menu did not clarify how it should be made. Server was not attentive to needs. The rest of the meal was good though.
We had 6:30 reservations, arrived on time, and were finally sat at 7:00. So the experience did not start off well. They also seated us next to an open door. Although it had been 70 degrees earlier in the day, the temperature outside was 45 or 50 when they sat us and quite windy, so we were both angry and uncomfortable. In the end, the food and drinks ended up being excellent and our waitstaff was great despite all the issues at the begining.
We made a reservation for 6:30 as we had tickets to see an 8:00 show nearby. Although we were on time, we were not seated until 7:00. There were many other people similarly standing around waiting to be seated despite reservations. Apparently to apologize for the delay, a manager delivered an unordered plate of (unexceptional) calamari “from the chef,” yet when we received our bill, we saw we’d been charged for the calamari. We complained and had the charge removed. Perhaps they thought we wouldn’t notice? We all had to chase down our waiter both to order a second round of drinks and to get the bill. I won’t go back.
Parking took a few minutes longer than expected so were 5 minutes late for our reservation. Even though the hostess said they were clearing a table it still took another 15 minutes to seat us. It took another 10 minutes before anyone even brought us water. Then another 15 minutes just to get some bread. It took another 15 minutes before our waitress even stopped by our table. As we had concert tickets we were ready to order and picked easy salads. After waiting another 20 minutes with no food from the kitchen and having been at the restaurant for over an hour with nothing to eat but bread we needed to leave for the concert. Arrived at the restaurant at 6:20 and left at 7:40 without ever being served our meals. The food looked good a the other tables.
One of the reasons we like Open Table is that we rarely have to wait. We usually arrive early for our reservation. But on this occasion we had to wait nearly 20 minutes to get seated. There was obvious overbooking going on, as the restaurant didn't realize there was a concert at Capital One Arena that night. Service was slow. We would call the apple and feta salad an apple-garnished salad. And seriously, nearly 15 minutes to scoop up some ice cream? We've eaten at the Smith before, but they really dropped the ball last night -- 11/18/2021.
The food was standard fare with some upscale ingredients, but the pricing reflected The Smith's downtown location rather than high quality food. Service was very slow, from preparing a table and being seated 25 minutes after our reservation to inattentiveness from the waitstaff. Probably won't go back.
Food was delicious. Everyone of our party of 4 was impressed with their dinner; well presented, hot, perfect portions and cooked to perfection. However the bread brought to the table to share was not fresh. It was impossible to tear or cut and even difficult to bite into. Such a shame because it seemed to be homemade and could have been light and crispy. The decor is attractive but the place is very noisy. Service was okay for the most part but our server forgot one of our requests.
Great food, wonderful service. A bit loud, but with it. Fun atmosphere, will be back
The food was awesome. The vibe was just right. We did have eyes on us but I ignored that. Always a pleasure. Thank you.
Good service food average price quite high for the quality
Enjoyed the Red Sauce Sunday special for 2. The service was attentive and we never felt rushed. We’ll be back.
i usually love the smith but the food was cold and we waited over 40 min for it
The food was overpriced, not prepared properly, and an overall disappointment. Drink prices were outrageous.
Cute place and great drinks. Menu was very limited. And service was substandard at best.
My father, his partner, and I enjoyed a nice Sunday brunch--my first time at The Smith, a beautiful location conveniently located near the Gallery Place Metro.
Our server (Sky) was attentive and the food was delicious: my dad enjoyed the shrimp and grits, served in a personal-sized cast-iron skillet; his partner enjoyed half of the delicious eggs Benedict, taking the rest home; and I had the Simple Scramble, which included well-seasoned home fries and a small, dressed mixed-green salad. One of the things we all remarked about was the smoothness of the coffee; a choice of dairy and non-dairy creamers was an added nice touch.
We all liked the variety of the menu and agreed that this was a good place for a return meal.
