First time at this lovely restaurant.
Home cooked food. Six of us, & we all enjoyed the food. My tuna was the best I’d eaten in a restaurant as it was perfectly cooked.
Food was obviously cooked freshly and wad all beautifully presented. Nice atmosphere and the staff are always lovely. Excellent value. Jx
Loved it ! We were in a pod & it was great, staff very attentive & then we were left alone to chat! But not forgotten !
Food great of a very high standard . Will be back .
Excellent food and helpful staff despite being at the end of a busy Sunday service. Roast dinners were top notch as was my salmon, squid and prawn risotto. Will definitely return.
Great space and great breakfast in lovely sunshine - thank you!
Love this pub very friendly staff and proper pub grub!!
Lovely welcome and very attentive service.
Food was absolutely delicious, we had the burgers which are homemade and very tasty. My friend had sweet potato fries and I opted for cheesy truffle fries, they are a must if you visit as they are unusual but a real treat.
The banoffi pie is the best from the sportsman than anywhere else but very filling, so leave room for it!
A local favourite. Always nice food, takes a while to come but worth the wait.
Staff are lovely and smiley.
Pub is lovely with plenty of places to sit, outside area is great for families, and always take the dogs as they are very welcome there.
The pub wasn’t especially busy and there were several waiters near the bar but they just left us for ages. We waited 20 mins before our first drinks arrived and then after ordering food it was another long wait to ask d’Orca coffee - which wasn’t brilliant. The food quality was good but the service was poor and no-one seemed to be making sure we were looked after.
Great choice of meals, good friendly service, very enjoyable
So good we can back twice during our holiday. The staff were so friendly and accommodating and the food was delicious!
Staff were lovely friendly and highly attentive
The service was terrible. It took an hour to get our food.
I booked a pod for 4 originally, called to add 1 on morning of booking - no problem at all to amend booking. The pod was comfortable & spacious for 5 plus 3 dogs, food was very good. An enjoyable experience & would recommend.
Always a great time at the Sportsman. Food is top draw.
Booked a pod which was lovely. All restaurants can be noisy places with everyone talking at once but this allowed a more quiet experience. The staff were so friendly and attentive and made it effortless. The Eton Mess was enormous but such a delicious treat. I didn’t enjoy the Caesar salad so much as there was too much sauce but the Eton Mess more than made up for it!
Lovely food great portions including lots of well cooked vegetables with the roast. Puddings delicious!
Lovely service, especially from Lottie. Food was delicious, accommodating for dietary requirements (celiac / gluten free and also rosemary due to medical reasons / medication). Chef was able to provide alternatives on the roast dinners we had, and we were able to have starters and deserts! Food was lovely.
Only shortfall was we ended up going to the bar to pay as we waited for someone to provide the bill or ask if we wanted it - didn't hamper the experience but just some constructive criticism
Hopefully we will be returning soon! The pods outside look so cosy and we would love to have a date night in one!
Lovely food great service made a special day great
Thank you so much for your review, we are so pleased you had a lovely time!
Four people at Friday lunchtime. Limited menu choices but good quality. We were able to swap the type of potato, which was good, and one person had two starters instead of a main dish. All meals tasted really good and were very nicely presented. The Pinot wine was the nicest I've had. Service was timely and helpful. Very clean, the wooden table was not sticky! Toilet also clean and tidy and not too cramped. Outside area looked very nice and the pods looked very comfortable. Will definitely be visiting again.
Sadly this was an awful experience that has deeply upset me. When our food took over an hour to come with no explanation or even check if our drinks needed topping up. I asked to speak to the manager after getting nowhere with the staff. She was rude would not accept any responsibility for the lateness of our food, did not want to discuss why another table hit their hot starters before we got our mains, which was all we ordered. She was confrontational and berating. I walked away the food arrived the food was good but very over priced and whilst I tried to eat I was berated again by the owner and manager she seemed to hang on to when we ordered which was an hour ago she put the order slip under my nose I had to ask her to leave us alone. When the bill arrived there was no discount no apology the manager arrived with her card machine I asked if she thought maybe a good will gesture was in order she strongly disagreed I walked out my mother and mother in law, sister in law and partner stayed and she was just as rude to them we all said the food was good her staff were lovely but her attitude was disgusting. She continued to be rude to my family and eventually said well here’s a good gesture don’t pay! My partner offered to pay she would not take it we left with me in tears never in my life have I experienced such bad customer service it was a truly upsetting experience. Just to note I have never left a bad review on any site but this was unacceptable.
