Thievery - Chicken & Charcoal
We have taken what Thievery was originally and went back to more of our fast casual, street food roots with a menu we feel this is our best one yet!
The menu includes some of our all time favourite Thievery dishes, like Sydney’s Favourite Hummus with Burnt Butter Paprika, Smoky Baba Ganoush with dollops of Yoghurt, our crunchy Iceberg Steak “Tabbouleh”, our house made Falafel (which you can get on their own, as a pack with toum, pickles, hot sauce and pita bread or in one of our mouthwatering kebabs) and Sourdough Manoush Pizzas - which will be topped with our ‘3 Cheese & Spicy Sausage’ or ‘Greens & Cheese’.
We have always loved the humble bird - and we have had BBQ Chicken on our menu for a long time - but now its coming back as the star of the show. Using our signature red spiced pepper rub and salting, we marinade our chickens for 48hours before kissing them on the fire and cooking till juicy, tender and smokey.
burnt butter, paprika
muhamara, walnuts, mollases
Grilled Field Mushroom
enoki and fermented mushrooms, cavalanero
The food was Simple but tasty and filling, the burnt butter hummus was a highlight. The service was quite slow and they had the for open near where I sat which made it unpleasantly cold.
Amazing chicken, great pickles and dips. Really good service. Well priced.
The burnt butter hummus is worth the hype. SO GOOD!
We also had the roast chicken - it was super juicy and well seasoned.
The kitchen even did us a solid and sent out a cheese pizza to appease our spice-challenged toddler. It may have been spice free but it sure wasn't taste free. There was enough roast garlic in that red sauce to inoculate my kid against vampires for the rest of his days. If he wasn't my first born child I'd have pushed him out of the way to scoff that cheese pizza myself. I didn't, though. I'm not a monster.
Seriously though... Delicious food. Ace service. Bangin' playlist. What more could you want?
Amazing Roast Chicken! Staff & Service were extremely friendly & helpful!! Amazing atmosphere and venue :)
No atmosphere at all. Service time was good but wouldn’t recommend the restaurant to anyone
Amazing food, friendly staff. Will definitely go again!
Good value, yummy food, lovely service. Look forward to trying more of the menu soon!
Both myself and my husband thought the food was super tasty. The falafels were the best I’ve had yet. The fries were yum and loaded with amazing salt. The humus was Devine. Overall very happy and will definitely be returning
This isn’t The Thievery and that name should be taken off the door to prevent anyone else being tricked. What a terrible shame. The new menu isn’t offensive, just boring and definitely not up to the standards of The Thievery. We had the hummus ( excellent) with flat bread (stale, no longer house made) and fried chicken which was crispy, but pretty standard. We also had the fattoush (boring) and the Gorgonzola and greens pizza (really bad). The pizza was particularly disappointing - the base was soggy and Gorgonzola overpowered everything - it tasted strangely like cold vegemite toast. Really disappointed that such an outstanding restaurant has been replaced by something so very ordinary.
The atmosphere has gone, the food has gone, the name should go too.
Heard so many good things about this place, wish I had gone before it changed hands, it’s nothing special at all! Very basic food, the bread was definitely not home made!
Really great service & yum food ! Will definitely be back xx
Yummy food and wine I would happily make this my local fried chicken place.
Friendly, helpful service and good food. The place is a bit cold - especially on a winter's night!
The chicken and chips were awesome and the service very friendly. The donuts were delicious too!
The fried chicken HSP was amazing. The service was attentive and friendly. Great wine, great vibes.
Fried chicken Ramen is where it’s at!
Overall very tasty. The menu seems a bit more limited vs. pre-COVID, but I'm sure that will change with time!
Food was incredible and the bottomless boozy brunch option was great. The staff were also really nice. Highly recommend the garlic bread!
Fantastic food and friendly service. Can't wait to go again.
Really outstanding food and service. Great, fun vibe as well
The service is excellent, really friendly wait staff made for an enjoyable meal. Loved the humus and fried cauliflower, garlic bread also good. Give the eggplant shush kebab and tomato salad a miss. Overall food was really too salty for our liking which was a shame.
Food is delicious and the staff are so welcoming and friendly
Really enjoyed our food and the ambiance
Everything about our visit to Thievery was absolutely amazing and it has already been placed into our top 3 favourite restaurants in Sydney. The food is delicious, well priced and varied and the staff go above and beyond for everything, while still remaining chill and relaxed. We will be back again and again, and have already recommended to all of our friends and family.
The food was amazing. The baba ganoush was a stand out for us. The waiter was friendly and explained the menu without rushing. We had a great dining experience and will definitely return.
Service was amazing and food was incredible. Best vegetarian I’ve had out in a long time. Highly recommend to anyone!
I had the set menu on Valentines Day and regretted it. Compared to other middle-eastern restaurants I've been to, the food was very average. The space is congested and overcrowded with loud 'club music' playing. Definitely not value for money! I would recommend 'Nour' in Surry Hills or 'Efendy' in Balmain over Thievery.
We went to Thievery for the Valentines day dinner, while the food was good, the service was a let down. We asked for the drinks menu twice and finally got it, then wanted to order a drink, and kept calling out to the servers and they kept saying one moment and never came. Understand that it was a busy night, but it also didn't leave a good lasting impression to encourage us to go back.
We didn't realise it would be a set menu and that our time was limited. The initial courses arrived one on top of the other and plates piled up. Then there was a lull and we were informed we had to leave in 5 minutes before dessert had arrived. An unpleasant and rushed dining experience. All the flavours merged into one with the rushed courses.
Great food and value for money! We left feeling full and happy.
Food always delicious. Great atmosphere & service.
Food was very nice but the service was poor - we were not given our garlic bread, we were left to our own devices for much of the night (no wine top-ups, for example).
The food was absolutely delicious and the service was great. The staff explains every dish on arrival and easily and happily adapts to dietary requirements.
Host was very welcoming and the food was probably very good, however the waitress who served us was rude on every possible level such that we did not enjoy the meal at all. Brusque when recommending wine, rushed and impolite meal service, hasty table clearing, practically pushed us out the door. Unpleasant and upsetting. I regret leaving a tip and felt ripped off.
Amazing food like I've never had before. Can't wait to go back!
Noisy, stairs were not easy to navigate, wine was expensive, but good and service were very good.
One of the worst experience i have had.
Very rude service. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
i had told my work colleagues about this place, came back and told them about the experience, they wouldn't be going there in a hurry!!!
RACHAEL is the worst in customer service!
We went here for our anniversary dinner with the hope to get interesting, unique and flavoursome food that didn't break the wallet! We had the vegetarian feast which was definitely worth it - Middle Eastern food with a yum cha twist. The service was incredible, they were polite, made us laugh and were so on top of it. If I had to comment on one minor thing, it'd be the timing of the dishes, some were slightly delayed, however, they did apologise without us commenting so understandibly it must've been a kitchen issue. With that being said, it was such a minor issue and the food and service were completely worth it - I would highly and proudly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience an edgy fine dining experience.
Excellent innovative food. Highly recommended by NY times and they were right.
I have been to Thievery before the menu was changed. actually have taken friends there before, food was great and so was the service.
this time took a friend, was very disappointed overall.
