Went with high expectations. Sadly not met. Service was gruff, placed in the centre of the floor when booths were free - right under loudspeakers.
Food choices were quite limited; indeed three of us shared one main course. The food seemed very salty to us.
Our server tried to be helpful but would serve alcohol to our 22 year old son and other servers cleared plates before we finished the food. They kept up topped up with water though.
The wine list seemed pricey so we opted for water.
No one said good bye to us as we left.
Overall, really poor service, unwelcoming and average food.
Cool concept and good food but small portions
Innovative food, perfectly prepared. Our server was great. A warm and friendly environment, attentive service, delicious food.
Would definitely recommend.
Creative, inspired, delicious food. Great for sharing. Wonderful service. Fantastic cocktails. One of our favorites for dinner with friends.
Service was fantastic. Pasta was a bit salty but good.
One of my favorite brunches. Love the french press coffee and the menu choices. The brown butter pancakes were delicious.
Our waitress was probably the best sever we ever had. She was so knowledgeable about food & alcohol.
Probably one of the better sit-down restaurants in the Harvard Square area. A little loud for good conversation, but that's every restaurant these days.
Always a delicious fave with knowledgeable servers!
Just wow! My wife and I had a delicious mock-tail and a perfect Old-fashioned lookalike with the oysters and bread plate. Then the splurge for my wife’s birthday: caviar. Gorgeous presentation and it included lots of excellent sides (seaweed blinis!). The Austrian Riesling and German bubbly provided a fine accompaniment. Then the surprise winner: the crudo! It was an amberjack-like fish whose name escapes me, with a perfect blend of ocean-fresh flavor and savory sauce. The only plate that disappointed was the crabmeat and angel hair pasta. Too salty for our palette, but quite frankly, we were ready to switch to desert at that point anyway. Cheesecake and sorbet, and my splurge: a glass of Tokai. A perfect end to the evening!
Terrific food -- lots of unusual combinations. Waitress was terrific - we were in a hurry and she made sure all of our food came out quickly. She also made great suggestions of her favorite items on the menu.
Definitely have to go back and try more items on the menu when we have more time to sample the oysters etc.
This is very seafood oriented -- so don't come here with your carnivorous friends. ;-)
When a friend recently asked whether he should take his wife to Waypoint for her birthday, our answer was a hearty yes. The latest featured cocktail list is super creative, so very compatible with the food... the only reason to skip the cocktails is the amazing wine list. Char belly is the absolute 'go to' on the menu time after time, but every bite from the oysters and crudo, Kenny's bread plate, the uni bucatini, and ... yeah, you get the idea.
When in Cambridge, Waypoint.
Wines are expensive, and quality uneven. Food and service are outstanding!
An all around great experience even though some food came quite late - it was very slow with just a few diners. However, we were treated to a couple pieces of ricotta cheesecake, which was excellent. Every plate was excellent. Highly recommended!
We had a great time at Waypoint! Molly, our server, was very knowledgeable about the menu, had great recommendations, and was very fun and accommodating. We tried plenty of plates and every one was spectacular.
Met up with a friend for a Saturday night out. Sat at the bar where we had excellent service and great talk with the barkeep. For starters we had a very tasty salmon with diced apple crudo. Entrees were the Ora salmon steak roast. The menu says that it serves 2-3. We got an entree each which worked out quite well. Finished off dinner with the donuts off of the sweets menu!!!
Awesome, really delicious food, great wine selection and friendly, attentive service
By far the service stands out on this chilly CAMBRIDGE evening. Small plate and crudos clearly conceptualización and executed with training, Waypoint May still be finding its seasoning sea legs. The food was good, just not, wow-which unfortunately makes the price tag stand out a bit. This fact was almost redeemed by the absolutely fabulous service. Our fair haired tattooed server was the best friend we just met, attentive and authoritative with an easy manner and delightfully unobtrusive. Worth a second taste, though I’m not optimistic. Likely will not become a regular rotation or for special occasions. New, hip, pricey.
Wonderful service. Unique, upscale menu. Casual enough vibe to wear 'dressed up' jeans. Very reasonably priced for great food. Good options for non-seafood eaters too!
Great menu and variety of choices. High quality food and service with a great vibe.
Good for a group or by oneself - the lunch service is always quieter but no less delicious or well-served by the servers. Always a good choice, and lunch combo choices are great value!
Nice open atmosphere. Hip bar scene. If you like fish, shellfish and tapas portions you will enjoy.
The hostess helped seat us where the noise was less which was great. All our food was wonderful and the service was good. My only comment was how great the Clam pizza was and how garlicy my breath was from it - all good.
Excellent food. Excellent wait person.
Great ambiance, but the food and service were just mediocre. They had run out of the rib eye, and then told us they ran out of the char belly after we had placed the order. As as result we were not able to enjoy a continuous meal and had to wait around for the replacement tapas plate. We ended up ordering a pizza, which to be honest we could have bought for half the price somewhere else.
Underwhelming. Items listed on the online menu were not available. The Caesar salad with crab meat was over-dressed and had too much coarse, darker green Romaine and not enough young, light green leaves. Far more expensive that Legal Sea Food's Caesar Salad with Maine crabmeat and not nearly as good. My husband's pizza had absolutely no pizazz. The crust was good, but that was the best thing about it.
We had the warm artichoke salad, and while the artichokes were tasty, there were hardly any in the salad.
The food tastes good, but portions were tiny for the price. They should call themselves a tapas restaurant. Noise level was high and the tables were way too close together. We sat at a 1 person table in a row of same. It was difficult to NOT be in the next tables' conversation. We were not wowed.
Awesome food and outstanding service!! We had Rachel as our waitress (for the second time!) and she was such a pleasure to have. She was great with food and wine recommendations and truly enhanced our experience and hope to have her again next time! Thanks Rachel!
Our server, Olivia, was fantastic! She was so adorable, made great suggestions and was extremely attentive.
The food was great, and the atmosphere was lovely.
Food was interesting but not amazing for the price. Dessert and service were the best parts!
I really enjoyed everything about Waypoint except for the actual sating. The chairs are not comfortable and seem to pitch the diner toward the table. If one's legs are not long enough to reach the floor from the almost stool-height chairs, one has to rest one's feet on the one rung, which may not be advantageously positioned, or lean forward to get feet on the floor. I would have preferred sitting in a booth, but our party was too large for that.
Wonderful restaurant with excellent service. Food was delicious and they kept the plates coming at a good pace!
Had a mid-week business dinner and found the menu selection good (if a little trendy), the room noisy, and the service excellent. The oysters were superb and properly shucked, the clam pizza was good (lots of flavor, crust a little soggy), and the whole branzino a little over cooked.
Very fun and artsy seafood spot in the Harvard Square area, has a lot of great décor loved sitting by the kitchen to see and watch everything that was shown.
Definitely an overrated restaurant and not nearly as good as Alden and Harlow. The staff was a bit arrogant and didn’t make you feel truly welcome at the place. Biggest downside-they have no coffee drinks besides regular drip coffee and no milk alternatives!!! Not to sounds like a spoiled millennial but it’s 2020 and this is supposed to be a hip place not a small town restaurant in the middle of nowhere. The waiter was utterly frustrated when I asked about coffee and then opted for a non alcoholic drink. He could clearly see he wasn’t getting a big enough tip from our table so didn’t even try to provide a good service. Overall, not impressed. Might come back to give it another shot for dinner but not the best first impression.
The restaurant happened to be pretty open/empty so our reservation wasn't necessary in that sense but it was perfect for our work lunch after a long morning meeting. Service was prompt and attentive without being meddlesome (Waypoint servers generally strike this balance quite well). Food was great as ever.
The crab fries and filet of fish sticks are a must! But everything was very delicious, the service was great, and our table felt intimate even in such a large restaurant. Definitely a great place to go with a big group so you can order many things!
Excellent food, excellent service!
Great service, amazing food, and very accommodating to make options for 1 member of our party who is vegan. Only minor complaint was the restaurant was quite loud (louder than it's been in the past) and wasn't very full. Overall, great place to eat
We loved our experience at Waypoint. We were not rushed, we were allowed to enjoy our experience and our dinner. I took part in their special absinthe drinks, ordering their One Good Churn. Well worth the money. We ordered the scallops, which were heavenly. The warm artichoke salad was decent, but I wouldn't order it again. The oysters were fantastic and the steak was the highlight of our meal.
