The grand residence at the base of Mattituck Inlet christened Windamere in 1890, opened its doors to summer guests at the dawn of the twentieth century as the North Fork became a sought-after destination for city dwellers. Visitors were in for a treat at the lofty rate of $7 per week. The property boasted a dance hall with a piano, a tennis court, a bowling alley, and a fine dock built for excursions. The lush and bountiful grounds were graced by a gentle wind flowing down the creek, and magnificent sunsets were presented nightly over the inlet. Windamere was known for delightful entertainment for guests and neighboring yacht clubs, most notably a 500-person singing society arriving by train for a midsummer performance on the great lawn.

I am torn about the 3 star rating. We enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and the live music. The service was the thing that really brought down our experience. Our server Paige R greeted us and asked if we would like tap or bottled water, we did not see her again for 10 minutes and when I did see her she looked at us and turned because she did not have the water. We then gave our drink order and our food order, we were afaraid we wounldn't see her again for a while. The food came and we still didn't get our drinks. Halfway through our meal Paige came by and apologised about the drinks, and offered us a bottle of sparking water. The drinks finally arrived when we was nearly finished with out dinner. It was frustrating because as I said we enjoyed the place and the music, the food was great but the service was a real letdown. I was hoping a supervisor would have stopped by but that didn't happen. We are debating about trying it again.

We are what I would call irregular regulars at Windmere. Love the setting and the food this year has been exceptional and a good value. For this reason I will forgive the AWFUL service we had Friday. Our waitress was covering tables inside and out as a result we saw her rarely. She never returned after our food arrived to check on drinks. As a result we would have loved a round or two more of drinks, but that didn’t happen. Our entre arrived while we were in the middle of our appetizer leaving the table crowded with plates and a mess. I know from our many time here in the past this was a one off night And will be back. If it was my first time, I would cross it off my list. The band, food, and one drink we were able to get, we good

The manager and waitress were outstanding! They showed us around the restaurant and we had a variety of their offerings. All was good! The setting by the yacht club was beautiful!

Wife and I sat on the outdoor patio as we celebrated our 40th anniversary. Food and service were great and the atmosphere couldn’t be better. The band playing that evening was terrific! Highly recommend.

The quality of the food was pretty shocking. It tasted like Sysco frozen food. And for the price, we were really unpleasantly surprised.
