Zenkichi
The restaurant offers semi private tables for all of its customers and Tokyo-style Japanese cuisine. The focus is on small plates for sharing and tasting with sake. The menu emphasizes Omakase (chef's tasting menu) which changes every five weeks to incorporate the freshest ingredients of the season. The sake selection includes over 50 kinds of carefully chosen premium sake labels.
Zenkichi continues to evolve with a recently added garden. The space is inspired by a Japanese mountain retreat with a glass ceiling that incorporates two 50 year old trees. Which expands the seating space and adds a new dynamic to the already unique décor.
This place is definitely overrated. Food was served cold and did not taste good.
An experience that provides ambience but amazing food.
Great food and service, loved the food and vibe! The individual booths made for a really cool atmosphere.
Great overall concept, with creative dishes and intimate private dining. Most dishes were great, and some were exceptional while others were just a miss. The close semi-private setting is comfortable but you could still hear your neighbors’ conversations. Definitely recommend the sake pairing for the omekase.
everything was great, we actually liked the dim light for our anniversary, the ambiance and the food were perfect, but it was too cold in our table. it made us a little uncomfortable towards the end of our dinner. we will still return for next season’s Omakase :)
Terribly rude waitress. Unacceptable behavior to both our table and the table in front of us. Rarely write reviews but would highly recommend staying away from this one. Food was fine - exceptional.
This place is amazing!! The food was wonderful and our server was kind and accommodating! We sat in a second floor booth where they have the screens that enclose your party, and it was wonderful! Highly recommend.
Beautiful space, food, service. 5 stars. Would recommend for a romantic evening or any intimate gathering.
Traveled from Manhattan to have dinner at this restaurant in Brooklyn. Setting was reminiscent of Tokyo, good start. Took the winter menu and we were decidedly unimpressed. Nothing in the meal we had stood out. Nothing was memorable or particularly tasty.
Really wanted to like this place, maybe it was an off night. We won't be back. Sorry
Awesome experience, very original place & very good food
Great ambiance and food was excellent. We did the tasting menu and was full before the last course was served. Our particular server was weak but the service from other servers seemed strong.
Wonderful atmosphere, unique experience, outstanding food, amazing service and overall would come back again.
Great ambiance. It felt like we were in a spa. Excellent Omakase menu. Yet the best things was their incessant service. Very polite and very attentive. An enjoyable experience overall.
You feel in Japan, food and service is great! we tried the Omakase with Sake pairing I think is the way to go If is your first time there.
Great place for a romantic evening. Food was excellent and service was also great.
Fun place to have a quality experience with great Japanese food.
Romantic, private dining experience with great service
Zenkichi was a good experience. I got a vegetarian omakese, which started out great, but got very repetitive towards the end. I felt that most of the dishes were made out same vegetables: mushrooms, sweet potatoes and lots of tofu. Veg tempura was the worst I ever had, it was the most oily dish I have EVER eaten. Many dishes were sweet, which is not preference unless I am eating dessert.
People sitting next to me were so loud that I could barely hear my boyfriend who was sitting across from me. Yet it was a good experience. Desserts were yum. My boyfriend really enjoyed his winter omakese.
From the moment you find the entrance, the experience is unique. The service is incredible, and the privacy in which the seating is arranged adds immensely to the entire experience.
Winter Omakase with Sake pairing.
Lady had the Wheat-free Omakase.
Nice waitress. Good Service. Cool place. Most important: the Food: some courses not more than average, some simply not good . A simple piece of grilled salmon in a tasting menu? C'mon. Was hoping for something more special and better quality. Maybe a la carte is the better choice.
Sake was mostly good. 50$ pp too much though. Sad to say it was not the tasting experience we hoped for.
Exceptional!
Amazing! Thank you so much! Awesome food and experience
Perfect in every way
First date
This was an amazing dining experience like no other! The private booths made for a special and intimate date ambience for my boyfriend and I. We opted to not do the tasting menu and order a few a la carte plates, which was probably the way to go. The sashimi was some of the best I’ve ever had, vegetables were fresh and delicious as well. I’d definitely book again for a special occasion next season when they have a new menu!
We left Manhattan to try a cool Williamsburg spot, this confirmed there is no reason to ever leave Manhattan. Decor was ok, not as luxurious as it looks online and frayed around the edges. The worst part is there is no wine unless you go to the bar area which does serve the same food. However, the bar only accepts cash but they did make an exception. Food was good but the tasting menu at $75 per person left me questioning whether or not I had just eaten dinner. It was good but nothing over the top worth traveling for. Service was very good. Wine list in the bar consisted of 2 or 3 options. I was ready to jump in a cab and head to Nobu but we decided to make the best of it. If you want authentic Japanese, live in the area and don't care for wine, the place is great.
Excellent!
Food was just average tbh. But the service was amazing
Absolute zen experience, taste and atmosphere and service.
Only concern is our booth was exposed to other booths when we thought we were secluded. Perhaps curtains for all sides?
This was a fairly unmemorable tasting menu. I've spent less and gotten higher quality and flavor food elsewhere.
This review pertains to the 8-course meal (costing $75/person). The portion were small, but certainly of high-quality. For those with astute taste buds, you may be able to tell the difference, but I do not. Note that after the 8-course meal, my girlfriend and I was perfectly full (not bloated, but not enough space for dessert after).
Come here for the ambiance, to chat, and a romantic night out. Don't come here expecting the best meal for your buck (go to Chinatown for that).
Food was quite bland. We order the chicken wings and jidori chicken. Both were subpar. Soup was pretty decent.
Ordered the vegetarian meal - very average, little flavor and just no taste to the meals.
The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was perfect for a date night.
Tables to small for a guy who’s six feet plus
It was wonderful. The service was amazing. We had a booth and it was very intimate. The food and sake was very good too. It was a special experience.
I love this place and haven't been a in a while, but came back to celebrate a friend's birthday. The omakase is a steal at $75. Everything is super delicious and the servers take extra care to explain every part of the meal.
Tip: no kids under 14, so noise is at a minimum.
Incredible atmosphere, interesting menu.
Was a little surprised by the tapas aspect of menu and would have appreciated better service from our server with regards to questions about items.
Worth a night out...
Food and service were good but not fantastic, maybe not necessarily worth as much as the price. But the setup of the restaurant and ambiance were great for a date night or a special occasion.
Everytime I go to Zenkichi I'm astounded at how good the food is. Worth the price! I go here every time I want to make something special!
I came here for a special occasion and enjoyed it very much. The seating arrangement is very cozy and private as they lower a curtain (I'm sure curtain is not the appropriate word, but that's all that comes to mind).
Food itself is excellent. Prices aren't cheap but you get what you pay for and it's definitely worth the extra bucks for special occasions. Highly recommend it!
