What Insiders Are Saying
Cosme is an upscale Mexican restaurant in Flatiron that’s much more approachable than it appears to be.
Enrique Olvera Is someone I admire a lot. I have been dying to try this place for a long time. Overall I rate the food fairly high but it’s hard to separate the food from the experience. The truth is the service was mediocre. Many times we were waiting and waiting to get someone’s attention without any luck. And the place is so noisy we could barely talk. I get that they’re going for a “hip” vibe and I like to listen to music, too. But the sound level was too high. Finally, The wine list is a joke. The prices are so inflated it’s laughable. I get that the wine list is designed for people with corporate expense accounts, but the rest of us who have disposable income would like to enjoy a bottle as well. It didn’t make the restaurant look great. It’s funny that I’m going to Pujol in Mexico City for the third time tomorrow. It’s one of my favorite places on earth. Cosme was a great disappointment.
Fabulous food, enhanced by an excellent waiter
Amazing food, really good ambience.
Limited menu- was there on a Sunday second time there- not as good as first
We love to try new restaurants. Cosme is a beautiful place with great decor. The food was excellent. I have it 3-4 stars because of the price tag. Very expensive. Each appetizer is $30, each cocktail $20, and the mains range from $65-95. The portions a very small. Is not Michelin rated in order to be so costly. The food was great but also not that delicious or amazingly good compared to what they charge.
Definitely not worth the price
My guest and I found the food to be excellent. Value was not and it was noisy.
Great food but the portion are very small and it’s too expensive.
Delicious food and service was great but the portions were the smallest I’ve ever seen the entrée was smaller than usual appetizer
Didn’t eat everything
Food is precious and not that delicious, other than the guacamole. Sauce on the arctic char was overwhelmed by lime juice and the mole tasted burnt and too peanut-y, served with a bowl of burrata that may have been overheated as it was largely liquid with a chewy top layer . Didn't order the duck carnitas because it was $98 (albeit for two). Service off hand. Nice decor, but they could have turned down the music just a tad. Won't be going back.
I wish I hadn't read about how amazing Cosme is, because then maybe I wouldn't have been so disappointed. Food was tasty, but certainly not as mindblowing as described. The prices are outrageous. I know what to expect pricewise when I go to a restaurant like this, but the portion sizes are so small that I almost felt like I was being punked. Perhaps the idea diner is a picky toddler, but not any reasonably sized adult with a reasonably sized appetite.
Service fantastic but the food came out too fast and we felt rushed.
One of the best meals I’ve had this year. Fantastic all around 👌
Although interesting menu selections, displayed attractively, served attentively, and sometimes with complexity of flavors, there were no memorable dishes.
This was our second time visiting Cosme. The first time was spectacular and this time was mediocre at best.
First, they called on Thursday to confirm our Friday reservation. I missed the call. I attempted to call them over 15 times and they never answered the phone between Thursday afternoon, evening and Friday afternoon.
When we arrived at the restaurant we were seated quickly. We ordered drinks and then a bit later ordered food - 4 dishes. Three of the four dishes were brought to our table with the complementary starter tostadas and BEFORE we got our drinks. We had 75% of our food within 10 minutes of arriving at the restaurant. This is not the rushed experience we would expect from a top 25 restaurant with the world's best female chef. When we expressed our disappointment with receiving all our food so quickly we were brushed off by staff saying they can't control when the food comes out from the kitchen. The chips and guacamole were excellent, while the arctic char and al pastor were mediocre. The tortillas over-powered the flavor of the al pastor which was surprising given it was a regular tortilla. When we did get our last dish - the soft shell crab, it was very good.
We asked for the drink menu again after our first 3 dishes and staff were helpful in selecting mezcals for us to try. This was a highlight of the meal. She was very attentive, offered good advice for how to drink them, and how best to understand the flavors.
We declined dessert, but were brought complimentary ricotta ice cream with berries. This was very good. It was a great balance of sweet, salty, and sour flavors.
Cosme has taken Mexican food to a whole new level. Every dish was beautifully presented with a sophistication of flavors and textures while still feeling like it was influenced by the chef's family recipes. I could eat the duck carnitas every day for the rest of my life. Also, you will be stuffed but make sure you find room for the merengue dessert. Sweet, salty, crunchy, smooth... Not to be missed.
The best, deserves its spot on top 100 not just food but server was outstanding
Exciting the senses to the max!
Wow. Never leave reviews, but the value just isn’t here for good food. Like a almost comical miniature food, but... not a comedy.
Food overall was really good, but I felt like the people around me were getting better service. Given that Cosme is in New York, it's understandably pricy - but I think it was definitely more expensive than it should have been.
I'd come back, but probably just for the habanero margarita and the corn husk mousse.
Going to Cosme is a great experience. The attention of the whole team is like being in Mexico.
The food is delicious and you can't leave without trying the meringue dessert.
Fun ambiance, fantastic food, and excellent service.
Pushy service trying for customers to order more food than necessary
Food is just ok
Presentation of the food is nice
We felt that that the énfasis was not the experience but in stead charging up the bill.
The table was at the last corner of the restaurant, not a good view.
We waited for 30 minutes for the table even though we had a reservation. Food was great.
Amazing food, great service! This restaurant has become my favorite place.
Innovative Mexican food with its roots in the best Mexican traditions. Every dish was very tasty, fresh and beautifully presented. Have not been there in the heart of lunch or dinner hours so I don't know how hectic it gets. Booking a late lunch (say, 2pm) makes it likely the noise level is just fine for easy conversation. Food and service-wise, this is a real find.
We were on time but we’re sat more than 20 minutes late. The menu was confusing and although the waiter was knowledgeable and polite he seemed to be confused as to why we were asking him to explain it to us. Two of the three dishes had no flavor at all so we promptly paid and left. On the way out I mentioned to the manager how disappointing our experience was so he politely apologized and that was that. Within a few hours I received an email from opentable about how our reserve was cancelled. Obviously they didn’t want me to write a review even though we honored the reservation, but opentable fixed that issue and here is my review. Extremely disappointing especially since we were visiting from Seattle and so excited to eat at the 25th best restaurant in the world.
Excellent. Best duck tacos ever eaten. And the drinks were excellent as well.
I really didn't enjoy the food. Also, their version of a bloody mary is sort of like drinking sand because there are so many spices in it - this wasn't pleasant. Definitely not coming back.
The prices were high and the experience felt fussy
Celebrated a birthday; food and ambiance was amazing
Food was delicious although sparse for the price. Service was abrupt and only somewhat friendly. My drink was terrible—tasted like powdered drink mix. My companion told the waiter who removed drink from table (only about 1/4 gone). We were surprised thT this 19$ cocktail was not removed from the bill. I have been to many restaurants not designated as top 50 in the world that were altogether superior Very pricey for what you receive
There has been Much to do about this, so I made a reservation. We were extremely surprised upon arrival that Saturday lunch was actually brunch without the full menu . I had sent my mother to this restaurant just a week before to rave reviews of the mole and was looking forward to the same experience
Scrambling to find something to eat that was authentic Mexican cuisine and not something that I would /could get elsewhere or something that was not eggs or a salad, we found ourselves with a very limited selection. I might add that my husband’s family lived in Mexico , so he is no stranger to Mexico and Mexican food
Trying to make the best out of a disappointing menu and experience we ordered a seafood with sea buckthorn to discover that this dish was sashimi- who knew. Our next course was the lamb, which was amazing and extremely flavorful, completely worthwhile dish. We followed this with the churro and hot chocolate , which I had high hopes for, as I had recently experienced these in Spain , but unfortunately this batch actually tasted of old oil.
My husband and I really loved the lamb dish and he asked me if I wanted to come back for the full menu, I am currently undecided if it is worth a second chance
Everything was EXCELLENT!
Mind blowing dishes that take Mexican cuisine to the next frontier
Demasiado caro, porciones muy pequeñas
Noisy and over priced for the quality and quantity of the food.
I’ve eaten in much nicer restaurants in NYC on this visit.
