Despite booking a table in advance through OpenTable and having a reservation number, we were told at the door no table had been booked for us. We were found a table close to the bar. Meal could only be described as average and the Jazz group performing were not as good as we are used to in Brighton. I wouldn't return.

The service was extremely friendly and efficient.
Very impressed from our first visit. Would definitely use again when visiting exmouth.

We booked to eat at The Engine Room for Mother’s Day as a 1/2 way meeting point. Mum lives in Tavistock and we live in Bristol. We used OpenTable to search for restaurants in Exmouth and the we spotted The Engine Room and recognised exactly where it was and it’s proximity to other amenities to keep the kids happy, so we made the decision to book. One of the deciding factors were the pictures on the OpenTable page header which shows lovely Roasted Carvery joints and a selection of fresh roasted vegetables, and we all love a good family roast!
However, when we arrived there was no sign of a Carvery counter, and other guests were eating burger’s & Chips etc. So we sat at our reserved table and looked at the menu, expecting perhaps to see a Sunday Roast option.... sadly we were very disappointed!! The Engine Rooms Menu was in fact made up largely of burgers & fish & Chips. We discussed leaving and going to look elsewhere, but knowing it was Mother’s Day we thought we might struggle, so we stayed put.

Having said all of the above, we ordered various dishes.. Scampi, beef Burgers, Chicken burgers, calamari and sausage & mash. On the whole the food when put in front of us was very good. Decent portion sizes, plenty of flavour and not too expensive.

In summary, would we eat there again... yes, when wanting food from a pub that specialises in Burgers!!

Suggestion: Please update your photos on OpenTable as they are mid-leading / false advertising.

Lesson Learned: Make a phone call and check the menu options are what you are looking for when booking.

The food was fine, would have been good if our table was set up and ready though. Kids meals came out last, strange policy
