Two five-course tasting menus, one from the land and one from the sea, have been curated to show the best of what is around us. All menu items are also available a la carte. You are welcome to bring your own wine and beer.
Chef Randy Forrester has been named a 2019 James Beard Award Semifinalist for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic. Osteria Radici was named a 2018 James Beard Award Semifinalist for Best New Restaurant and one of the Best 30 Restaurants in New Jersey by New Jersey Monthly Magazine.
Simply extraordinary! This tiny storefront on Main Street in charming Allentown, NJ, is the real deal. Inventive menu and great presentation are matched by preparation and most importantly flavor. Not your traditional Italian restaurant by any means, chef Randy Forrester coaxes out the best in his super fresh ingredients. The Anchovy Laquered Scallops were the best I’ve had in years. The trumpet mushrooms and fried garlic sang in unison with the scallops and anchovy sauce. The Local Duck prepared sous vide was perfectly cooked with a hint of hay smoke added during the sear. Also not to missed, the Tonnarelli pasta was so simple you could make it at home. But you won’t because it’s just so good here. My dessert, Olive Oil Semifreddo was ethereal. Chef Forrester’s wife and partner, our server this night, provided the backbone to the night with informed conversation, many smiles, hyper efficient service and consummate professionalism. This byob deserves to be on every serious foodies radar.
Though the menu was limited , we enjoyed our meals though I felt that my husband and I enjoyed our pastas more than our friend who had the duck. I was just surprised that we would have been charged $25 per person if we had cancelled our reservation. Thank goodness we didn’t have to. We plan on returning in the near future and we wish the owners success.
Each theme menu ( sea or land ) invited the diner to choose a direction and to invite others to share. We were on a culinary journey with no bumps in the road. The quality of food was exceptional and the service was unsurpassed. All four of us experienced a memorable evening and look forward to coming back again soon..
Food was fabulous. Unique flavor and food combinations made with loving care. Anchovy shellacked scallops were delicious!
Service was excellent. Food was very good. Prices were outrageous!! Full course prices for appetizer-sized portions. This is Allentown NJ not Manahattan!!! Spend your money elsewhere.
Great food! Great service
Can't say enough about Osteria. If you love good, quality, well prepared food that you're not going to find at restaurants everywhere, try Osteria. It's not just about the great food, it's about the experience!
My husband and i’s favorite spot to go for a date!
The food was amazing! Well cooked, well presented and very much enjoyed!!
Thoughtful and delicious as always. This place is a gem and you should tell all your friends NOW!!!!
Innovative cuisine. Everything was fabulous. Homemade pastas, homemade bread. Both outstanding. Sharing works well so you can try lots.
Our second time at this wonderful gem. Josian was our waitstaff member again and did a great job explaining the tasting menu and choices. And, the chef/owner visited our table several times throughout the evening and we had wonderful conversations about his approach and the various regions of Italy. We will be back for our next special occasion. Thanks to all for another great experience!
Having first visited the place just before Valentine’s Day, we were excited to test it again on our anniversary. It at least lived up to the first time and probably exceeded it. The chef has a real talent for concocting flavor combinations that really bring out the best in each dish. The bigeye tuna, Denver steak, the pasta dishes and the semifreddo (with an incredibly delicious olive oil gelato) stood out in particular. This place is our new favorite NJ restaurant!
Always a treat to try the 5 course meal with all the unusual ingredients that make your mouth water.
This the scallop dish was fantastic. This is the quietest restaurant we have been too. Kudos to the chef.
This is the second time we have been to Osteria Radici and we were equally happy with our meal. A 5 course tasting menu (two choices, Seafood or land) for 84.00 per person was perfect for date night. All the food was unique and just enough imaginative to be interesting but absolutely well balanced and flavorful. We hope to return again soon. We had a reservation for 7 on a Wednesday night and were 1 of three tables, but it was quiet by the time we left. It’s very very small, and only a few tables, but the food is worth it.
I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a meal as much as I did at Osteria Radici. It is a "set tasting menu" of either fish or meat but you are able to mix and match the 2 menus which is fabulous. Every dish was spectacular and I can't wait to go back.
Wonderful dinner. The food was generally excellent although I found some dishes too salty. Excellent service. Would definitely recommend the restaurant especially to those who know food.
Small intimate restaurant. Very attentive service. The waiter was well versed as to the menu and all ingredients. There is a choice between the tasting menu or regular entrees.
A terrible odor of wet basement or old vegetables met us walking in that became less noticeable after a few minutes but started our experience badly. We stuck it out on Mother’s day. There were some good parts: crusty bread, an elegant scallop crudo with capers and honey, and a tataki seared just right. But the pasta de Gallo with lamb and steak with mushrooms were criminally over salted. When mom mentioned this, the server simply said “oh” and then ignored our requests for water while we poured our own wine. This restaurant makes a big deal of its James Beard semi finalist chef. We could imagine a really good night when this might have happened but we had no such luck and will not go back
This was a much anticipated dining experience that fell quite short. We did the tasting menu (you can choose from meat or seafood) and we chose the meat. I'll make this brief. The place is VERY small, they run it with 2 people total....one in the kitchen and one in the front of the house. Maybe it was an off night but I just don't have anything good to say. I judge a meal by saying "what did I eat that was memorable" or I can't wait to try again (or tell someone about) and there was nothing here. In fact there were 2 courses that were just not for me. Scratching my head at the love they are given from the James Beard Foundation.
Almost an hour drive each way for us. Food was absolutely amazing and beautifully presented. Duck breast with Caracara orange sauce was so delicious. I flaws start to finish. If I had a wish it would be for wine glasses with stems and that they move closer to where I live. Go and enjoy, you won’t be disappointed.
Loved the food, service and coziness of this restaurant. Each dish was beautifully prepared and delicious. Excellent service. Nice that is BYOB.
Our third time here and it's been better each time. The dishes are so original, you won't find them anywhere else. I love the fact that the menu rotates weekly. You also won't find better fresher ingredients. That, along with quaintness of having only six tables really makes it a special culinary experience. Can't wait to go back!
Finally, real Italian in NJ! I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Osteria Radici. The food was perfectly prepared and seasoned, and the service was attentive and helpful without being overbearing. Everything from the made-in-house bread with olive oil, to the crispy pork cheek, to the perfect cappuccino was like a trip back to Italy. This ranks up there with the best meals I've had. Can't wait to go back!
What a gem in the sleepy town of Robbinsville. We traveled from Philadelphia to try this James Beard nominee last Friday and it didn't disappoint. We ordered a la carte but would now go back for the pre fixe. The dishes were flavorful and cooked well. And many restaurants could make note of the service here - there when you need it but not hovering. This restaurant is worthy of the hype.
Excellent food. If may cost a little more then other restaurants but you get what you pay for! Worth every penny. My wife and I enjoy quality meals and the meals were top notch. If you are afraid to pay for quality, find a nice chain to go to. We prefer locations like this with excellent quality and service. Also being a BYOB is a bonus!
We had a lovely dinner at Osteria Radici! Superb food in a quiet, unassuming setting in the little town in which my grandparents once lived. What a gem, and worth of the many accolades it has received! Especially loved the Sea Trout Crudo with caper honey, the Roasted Mushrooms in nduja vinaigrette, the Pressed Pork Cheese with salsa calabrese, and the Moulard Duck with hay smoked cabbage. Will definitely return!
Every time we visit Osteria Radici Chef Randy succeeds in exceeding expectations. The current menu is one his best creations and proves how lucky we are to have a NY/Philly caliber restaurant in our home town.
While I was a little bit intimidated by some of the menu items, our server was extremely knowledgeable and informative. He helped us to navigate the choices and we weren’t disappointed with any of his recommendations. We are looking forward to coming back again soon!
Love this small gem of a restaurant!! Never disappointed 🙌🏼👌🏼😋
Had a wonderful meal. Food and service were great! Not really much of an atmosphere. Good level of noise so that you could converse.
Both tasting menu choices were absolutely brilliant. It's not for everyone because you need to be an adventurous eater and the voices are limited, but with that note of caution I would highly recommend it to anyone. It's extraordinary to find such a gem in a small town with a handful of tables turning out such great food.
Finally a local restaurant that is worth going to! A small, quiet, fine dining establishment in the middle of nowhere. The food was excellent, and although there is nothing fancy about the venue, there is plenty of room between tables to have a conversation. We had the chef’s tasting...served by the chef himself...and were pleasantly surprised by the quality. Now if only there was a liquor license...
Clean flavors, ‘Simple’ food with a modern twist. Loved the food will definitely go back.
It would be difficult to overstate how impressed we were with this amazing little restaurant! Everyone in our party fancies him/her self to be seasoned in fine dining, but rarely are we in full accord. This night (at long last) we speak as one!
Make no mistake, this is not my mother’s Italian food. Our five-top sampled the entire menu, which is equally divided between two five course tasting menus. Two of us had the seafood tasting (dal mare) and two ordered from the land (dalla terra). The fifth wheel had two courses from each menu. This warrants mention: there is no requirement for the entire table to order from the tasting menus nor a minimum number of courses. Flexibility is the order of the day.
Chef Randy’s food challenges each guest to reconsider the range of flavors and ingredients which commonly combine to create a dish. Indeed, there’s nothing common about this food. Consider, sea trout crudo with caper honey. For someone who once didn’t let his vegetables touch the meat, surely trout and honey would be a bridge too far. But it was amazing! That said, there are also offerings which strike a more familiar tone. The Barnegat scallops, beautifully caramelized with sunchoke and sesame provides comfort that the art of grilling scallops is not yet lost. Similarly, crispy pressed duck with broccoli rabe and salsa calabrese harkens one back to a time when duck fat, in the hands of a gifted chef, is an art form in itself.
I’ve barely touched the surface here. Did I mention that the bread is homemade? But here’s the best part: Randy Forrester is a one-man show. There is no sous chef, no pastry chef, no line cook, no dishwasher. Truly, a living, breathing “Chief Cook and Bottle Washer”!
Amazing! We did the full tasting menu and every dish was outstanding.
The food was excellent. The ambiance is fine but was ruined by the selection of music playing; Led Zeppelin and The Who. The service lacked attentiveness and the waiter neglected to introduce himself by name.
Radici never disappoints. There are always a few new inventive dishes,
combined with favorites like the Sea Trout Crudo.
The Pressed Duck with broccoli rabe and salsa calabrese is not to be
missed. Can't wait to go back!
