Excellent service and superbly fresh seafood make this a dining destination right on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay a must.
Some told me the casino housed in the same building was a distraction from the restaurant. From where I sat, I only enjoyed the seagulls, the sun sparkling on the bay and restaurant full of patrons relishing the Maryland fried chicken, flounder, perfectly cooked scallops, oysters, crab cakes and crab balls and unusually well prepared and succulent shrimp.
Great experience!
I got to sit by the window and the view was great of the pier and gazebo. I was in the rear of the restaurant, just in front of the casino area. It wasn't noisy at that moment. The tables were socially distant. The food was alright. The service was good.
Rod n Reel is a wonderful restaurant. But on special events, because so many people want to be there, the menu is not great. Come any time, not on a special event the chef is wonderful. The hotel gives you what you want. The staff is friendly. Give you what you want. Comfortable nice rooms. You pay for the room's ambiance. . They have rooms to satisfy you. On the waterfront beach, it's great to impress. There's a pool, barbershop, nail salon, conference center. It's all in that corner. The slots are well taken care of. Everyone has to use a player's card. When you come off, the machine disables, to be whipped down. Folks disinfecting 24/7. Everyone has to wear a mask.
Overpriced, cold food, not worth 100 for 2 people and that was without alcohol. We won't be returning
Excellent food - not happy with seating too close to people walking by to go to the game room - next time will suggest to sit over by window
We stayed at the hotel for the Christmas holiday, and were very pleased that the restaurant was open for both days, so that we didn't have to travel around searching for someplace to eat. The food was very tasty, the servers very pleasant and helpful, and everyone was alert to the COVID restrictions, so we felt safe and happy to be here!
Me and my family enjoyed our experience and will definately return again
Great service, bland flavorless food...
The drive from Upper Marlboro was scenic. We enjoyed looking at the Christmas decorations on the median entering North Beach. The classic cars and touches of Christmas were lovely upon arriving at Rod N Reel.
The food was delicious as always. Our steak and egg breakfast was perfect.
So happy we could celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday and she could partake in the fun!
It was a great experience there. Looking forward to returning soon.
Restaurant was not crowded and the service was quick and efficient. The atmosphere was mostly of a gaming establishment rather than relaxed dining. There are gambling machines everywhere around the dining room and although most people were being quiet, it detracted from the ambience I expected of a high priced restaurant.
Wouldn't go again for dinner. Lunch in the right weather might be ok. We had a reservation but had to wait while they cleared and cleaned tables. Our table still had sticky spots. Food ho-hum, certainly not worth the money they charge. Lots of crab dishes on menu. Most folks probably they assume they are getting local blue crab. I asked and was told that the crab comes from Thailand. They try to pass themselves off as a classy place but the proximity - noise and sights - from the slot machines detract from having a relaxing dinner in the ambience of an up scale restaurant.
It was our first time to the location itself...we just went for brunch to get out of the house for the day — it just wasn’t at all what we were expecting, I guess??
We thought it was a stand alone restaurant, but it’s just a small section that’s actually attached to the Casino...Like the machines are a few feet away from the tables. It’s deff More like a holiday type breakfast situation, than a legit restaurant. It’s there for the hotel and Casino, but nothing I would recommend going to like we did on a whim just to eat. The food was nothing special...Kinda bland.
The decor and restaurant area are very dated.
Also not deep cleaned/maintained overall, for example: the ceiling tiles are longggg overdue for replacement. They are literally grey/black in all areas by the ceiling vents. Dust? Mold?
The large windows and view of the water were nice...and our waitress was great/friendly!
Again just not at all what we had envisioned.
We had 7pm reservations and had to wait for our table to be cleaned. Bonus- it was a water view table so it was worth the wait.
Server took awhile to bring us waters, my husband's ice tea and my awaited cocktail were served first. Rod N Reel has a boisterous crowd in the "Bingo" slots area, but overall the ambiance was mellow for a Friday night. My Manhatten came in a chilled martini glass and was delicious although not traditional.
My husband got the cream of crab soup, which had a nice heap of hot crab meat on top. My husband commented that it was odd the soup was at a warm temperature and the crab meat must've been microwaved hot.
I got the Ceasar salad, and since I have Celiacs, no croutons. The dressing was good and rich.
We split the rockfish with crab imperial, which was the best part of the meal. The green beans cooked Al dente and the mashed potatoes were buttery. I also liked how the menu was easily labeled for food sensitivities.
The food was excellent. Had to get some mac & cheese to go. Will be back again.
Not exactly what we were expecting. It was connected to a small casino, so there were a lot of people in and out. Staff was not available for seating right away. Server was rushed and all over the place for no good reason, it was hard to get a word out when speaking with our server, and even harder to get refills of water.
Rod and Reel only has a sister restaurant for outdoor dining with a very limited beach pub menu. They are not able to use real plates or glasses, so sadly, there is a whole lot of plastic, including straws, wasted right next to the Bay. Food is meh and overpriced. Service was fine.
Over 50 years of eating there, the food has consistently gone down hill with 9/24 being the worse. Crab cake dry, tasteless and cole slaw bland, no seasoning to anything!!! Won't go back.
Waiter a little slow and inattentive. Cocktail requested wasn’t available - no mint! Prices higher than expected.
We had to cancel our order after an hour of being seated and told only one wine to select and took 30 minutes to receive. Placed our dinner order when wine was delivered to be told later due to a computer glitch it was never put in. We asked for our check because we were done waiting. Only two other tables occupied while we were there. Wait staff caught an attitude when we asked for check. Been there many times over 23 years in Calvert. Will not be going back.
beautiful view and location. highly recommend for a meal with the beach view
Great place to dine with an amazing view of the bay. Food and service are exceptional. Our server, Jacob, was exceptionally attentive and helpful.
Food was mediocre at best. Definitely not worth the price.
Service and food were tops. We had an issues with flies which was very annoying.
I’ve dined at rod n reel on several occasions the atmosphere is always nice the food is very good although it looks like the portions are smaller. Overall it was a good place to dine for my 32 wedding anniversary.
We had a great time with a great view!
Amazing food! Very good service. Will definitely be back
We went for my sister's birthday, and the food was great as usually. Even with the construction for the resort and COVID 19 restrictions, we still had a great time and great service.
Food was great. Server was very pleasant. We look forward to returning soon!
The Corv-19 pandemic has slowed business, but still a good place to go, make reservations first
I made 9pm reservations for my husband and I to have dinner for my birthday. We waited all day and once we arrived about 10 minutes before 9pm we were told they are closed. Hostess said she could seat us but it would take a long time since they are closed. We explained we made reservations and received email confirmations. She said she understands it has happened to her before. I said we would go some place else since it was my birthday and I didn't want to wait forever or have the meal just thrown together. Every other restaurant in town closed at 9pm which being out of towners we didn't know. She never mentioned the resort had a bbq place still open till 11pm. I ended up cooking breakfast food for dinner at the air bnb we rented. Plus the photos also showed outdoor dining options however it was dine in only. The photos were for their Boardwalk Cafe. Would never recommend there especially for special occasions. Hostess said it must be a computer software issue.
Excellent food, service and view. The waitress was a little stressed, but very good service.
Absolutely fabulous view. We sat on the Patio with perfect view of the ocean; made us feel that we were on a resort in the Caribbean.
Service, although very friendly, was very slow and servers/hostesses were confused. (I wouldn't hold it against them, as it was a very busy Saturday night, and there was a wedding going on.
I've been to this restaurant multiple times throughout the years, usually for the brunch buffet and holiday buffets. This time it was for a sit down dinner, with a reservation. I'm not sure if the kitchen is used to small individual orders, however, the food took forever, and was not very fresh. COVID seems to have hit this restaurant pretty hard in the kitchen, leaving wait staff trying to make up for it. The wait staff and hostess desk were great, but our food and wait time hindered our experience.
Celebrating a birthday. The restaurant really needs to be remodeled. Very old carpet and booths. My seafood Norfolk was very greasy. Lots of fat and very little seafood. I had asked for Mac and cheese and received mashed potatoes. It was not of the caliber of a dish that cost $29.95. Very disappointed.
My husband and I dined at Rod N Reel for our weekly date day, and it was really a wonderful experience. The food and scenic view were a delight to our senses. After eating, we walked out to the deck area to enjoy the view further. We will be back and highly recommend.
Although our service was good, the food was just OK and very overpriced. We had 5:30 reservations and they were already out of bread for the table. We ordered hot crab dip for an appetizer for a group of 6. It came with 2 pretzels and we had to pay extra for 4 more. Everything on the menu comes with an over inflated price.
I was disappointed. I thought a restaurant near the water would have fresh seafood as an option, not the case. When you sit outside your options are all fried, and not local. We were disappointed to say the least!!
Pleasant view of the water, good service, good food
