Poor service. Started when we arrived, hostess was on the phone reading the whole menu to someone.
Our waitress, Barbi, was too busy, even with the inside or the restaurant at half capacity due to COVID-19. We had to ask others for our drink refills, our deserts, and to pay the bill.
We have dined at this Roy’s a couple of times and the Roy’s in Maui. We have always had excellent service and experience! We will not be returning to this Roy’s for some time!
Very happy to be back at Roy’s-
Mahalo Monday was a great treat, and the food and service were outstanding!!
Very nice seating area and friendly staff. Food was very good and nice selections
Need to improve outdoor ambiance.
Cuz of covid more
People will opt for outdoor dining. But overall great food, service. A top destination for special occasions
Our server Q was amazing! He was laid back yet professional and attentive. I would go back just for his service!
Sea Bass is the best ever in preparation and presentation. Service and timing is over the top as well.
Roy's food is always excellent, fresh and innovative.
Regular diner at Roy's restaurants. Food & service was on par. Price fixed Monday menu was a good deal!
Celebrating my parents anniversary and Megan (all around hostess, bartender, and waitress) made it extra special!
Great staff. Managing partner at this beach is the best
From making the reservations, we were already impressed
Great outdoor seating. Definitely paying attention to COVID rules and made us both feel comfortable and safe. Great seafood sampler and highly recommend the short ribs, yum!
I was disappointed in the look of the restaurant (dated). Appetizer and dessert were very good but my entree was fair. My friend really enjoyed her meal and the mai tai's are wonderful. Service was excellent.
Since the La Jolla Roy's that we have been going to for 16 years has closed, and the Seaport Village Roy's was booked solid for our anniversary week, we would not be deterred. The Anaheim Roy's was the next closest alternative. Our server Craig was very attentive and pleasant. The food was as expected. We had a wonderful time. Thank you!
One downside: Even though we had our parking ticket validated, we still ended up paying for parking.
Didn’t know the name of our waiter, but he was courteous and we had excellent service - As usual, the food was superb!!!
Thank you for a great evening
Charlie and Bette Connelly
We actually got to sit inside as they now have inside seating again. The food was wonderful and everyone in the party was happy.
The best steak ever! A little pricey, but worth it!
Food is always fantastic at this restaurant and the service is normally fantastic as well. The only reason I didn't feel the service was as great as it normally is that on all previous visits, we normally did not have to wait on anything. Normally our waiter or waitress always seem to anticipate what we needed. It may have something to do with the pandemic and we were basically came at the last seating time of the restaurant and there only seemed to be one waitress taking care of the whole patio which why she may have been to busy to continuously check on our needs as previous times in such things as asking for her for things as well as trying to get our check. Also the extra time it took to start and finish our dinner, we ended up having to pay $3 for parking because we ended up going out of the parking lot just after the 2 hour maximum allowed. I think the restaurant should instead of just allowing for 2 hours for parking (one hr from the garage and one hr from the restaurant) and provide 3 hours instead (one hr from the garage and 2 hr from the restaurant to account for any extra time it took to complete our meal.
Dining at Roy's was a fabulous experience. We were seated immediately in the beautiful outdoor dining area, with Tiki torches lighting up the patio. We started with the delicious spare ribs, and two of Roy's signature sushi rolls. All 3 dishes were beautiful to look at, and fun to eat. We ordered the short rib dinner, just delicious, and the fish sampler, with four servings of different fresh fish, also delicious. We ended our meal with two cups of rich dark coffee and the lava cake dessert. Service was professional and friendly.
Dining at Roy's was like a much needed mini-vacation in these trying times. Treat yourself to a little sanity in these crazy times and spoil yourself at Roy's. You will enjoy every minute.
We were dining outside the restaurant of course due to COVID-19. I had a Pineapple martini and my husband had a virgin mango mojito . We ordered entrees, I had shrimp with udon noodles in a savory sauce with mushrooms and he had roasted macadamia nut mahe mahe . Both meals were decent but on the salty side!
Our waiter was superb, though I cannot recall his name 😖
We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and he brought out a slice of chocolate ganache. All in all a very nice experience.
I am sure that "inside dining" would have solved the minor issues from eating next to a very busy street! Food was very good, service was very good as well!
Our server was attentive, the manager was a very pleasant, personable young man,& the food was excellent. I always enjoy Roy’s food, better then the rest. This is the first time we have had so much attention. This group of people were exceptional with their attentiveness. It was appreciated. A very good crew. Good luck to all of them.
Great food, great service, seated immediately, delicious
Friendly and enthusiastic staff. Food came out quickly and was delicious. Loved our experience here
I think they did the best they could, with the COVID circumstances. The food & service was perfect!
We came to Roy’s to celebrate a couple of birthdays and our small group had a wonderful time. The food was delicious and the service excellent. The restaurant followed strict Covid-19 protocol; all tables were socially distanced and our servers wore gloves and masks throughout.
Roy’s is best known for their seafood. Their menu offers plenty to choose from, and even non-seafood lovers can find a lot to like. Our group enjoyed the lobster potstickers, short ribs, wagyu beef Lakanilau Roll, Aloha Roll and crispy chicken spring rolls for appetizers. The Classic Four entree was perfect for the undecided as it included 4 favorites: misoyaki butterfish, macadamia crusted mahi mahi, blackened ahi and grilled salmon. The filet mignon/lobster combo also was delicious. All dishes were cooked to perfection and each dish had just the right sauce/accompaniment to bring out the entree’s best flavor. Our server Erin was great and even brought out complimentary key lime tarts for the birthday guests. We added the chocolate soufflé and pineapple upside down cake (hands down the favorite!) for dessert. Erin checked on us often and the entire staff worked as a team to provide top-notch service. Thank you Roy’s for making this celebration as enjoyable and safe as possible. We had a great time and look forward to coming back again soon.
The food selection & quality was excellent. Nice patio area for outdoor dining. Would definitely recommend to my friends & family.
Excellent place to eat for locals as well as out of town folks.
Had drinks and appetizers outside with an amazing bartender, sushi rolls of a higher order, just delicious. Dinner was presented beautifully, roasted vegetables, starch and a perfectly cooked steak. So much food brought most home. The server inside was not unfriendly but seemed distracted. I only mention this because the overall quality is perfect; and not surprisingly prices for food and drinks are not inexpensive. I pay a fair sum for a better all around meal experience at Roy's and get my money's worth. Roy's was and remains my go to dining place for special people and occasions. Thanks Roy's for the special evening!
During this time of covid, Roy's seem to take things seriously. On entrance, they took our temps, and when seated, our area was fairly distanced from the other 1 table in our area. They wore masks and everything seemed well. They gave us the option of a disposable menu or scanning it. I felt pretty safe. It was nice to go back to a restaurant we enjoy and have some good food!
Roy's, as good and unique as the food is, has the feel of something on the top of it's game 20 years ago. Now, it's just a place for tourists. The Newport Beach location, especially in the early days was a "go-to" place. Anaheim is fortunate because of its location or it wouldn't get half the clientele.
My wife and I have been to many Roy's throughout California and the Islands. Even NYC and three times in Tokyo.
The room is not quite right and your servers--at least the few we were in contact with--were kind of walking Zombies who are better suited to Denny's. They bring no spark to the evening, wanting you to think that this is going to be a special evening.
Again, the food was really quite good, but the rest--ambience, staff, whatever--is not quite up to the same standard.
In Newport Beach, we were on the Ohana list. Anaheim? I'd have no interest. Sorry.
The staff was incredible! The food was amazing!!! Well worth it. Atmosphere was great. I will be back
Staff was exemplary as they navigated service and dining in these times. They went out of their way to make the evening seamless though new measures were in place; temperature checks at the door, mask use of staff, menus via smart apps, discounts on wine bottles, and of course the wonderful presentation and flavors of their dishes. Thank you for our anniversary dinner night out!
Took my friend Zach here. I simply love this place. Food is great. Service is alway perfect.
The staff was wonderful, especially with the new challenges of reopennng to include dining in. Everyone helped make our anniversary special. Thank you. We will be back.
As usual we had a great time. Food was delicious, as it usually is. Warm and friendly service, despite the current health situation the team ensures you receive the best service.
The food is always great at this restaurant and the service is usually fantastic as well as our servers on most visits, always seemed to anticipate our needs and were always one step ahead of us. On this particular visit, the service was good, but a couple of times we had to ask our waiter for some items such as drawn butter for the lobster we ordered, water and when we got the bill, the bill had to be corrected. The waiter said, apparently, he had hit some wrong keys when he rang up the bill. Overall, I love Roy's and will continue to come back due to the fact as I said above, the food and service are both usually outstanding every time I visit.
Took advantage of the Mahalo Monday special. The appetizer, entree, and desert were outstanding! The staff was friendly and attentive. Sat outside on the patio which faces a busy street so there was a bit of traffic noise. Other than that I would visit them again.
From the service to the food - everything was great. Looking forward to our next visit!
A family favorite, especially the butterfish. We were celebrating a birthday and they brought out a complementary key lime pie slice. They did a nice job of maintaining the social distancing and making the experience safe, without the safety measures distracting from the experience -- we ate on the patio. Wish Pasadena location hadn't closed.
