Focusing predominately on fresh local seafood with a French, Lowcountry flare, Charlie’s is the place for good food, good wine and unforgettable memories all enjoyed in a quaint French country atmosphere.

A Savannah native, Charlie Golson’s interest in the French language and culture took him to Paris. After a long stint in the fast paced hotel kitchens of Washington DC, he was ready to move back closer to home. It was at that time he was able to open up a one room French bistro. The restaurant has grown over the years, but the ‘Green Star’ remains steadfast in offering the finest ingredients the Low country has to offer with a menu that is hand written daily. Resort Casual.

There are a number of good restaurants on HHI, but we feel Charlie’s is the best. Great service, ambiance and most of all, fantastic food. We make it a point to eat at Charlie’s whenever we visit Hilton Head. We’ve never been disappointed.

We eat here often because it’s always spot on. But tonight’s dinner was even more delicious. I had the special - seared grouper with grilled shrimp atop sautéed spinach and mushroom risotto. Every bite was perfect!! One of the best meals I’ve had.

About the restaurant

The original Hot and Hot Fish Club was founded in the late 1700’s by the planters of All Saints Parish. The social club was dedicated to epicurean pursuits; gourmet food, strong drinks and festive times. The first club was said to be on Drunken Jack Island, located just a few miles south from here. Members of the original club described their past time spent on the island as the “happiest hours of their lives.” The Club was dismantled and finally laid to rest after the Civil War. An ever shifting sand bar off the coast of Huntington Beach State Park is all that remains of the original site. The Hot Fish Club today is located in the oldest existing restaurant building on the Grand Strand. Hot Fish Club remains a favorite gathering place today for discriminating locals and is open to everyone seeking Great Food, Great Drink, and Lively Conversation, in the spirit of those earlier revelers. We pride ourselves on our personal service and our desire to satisfy each guest.

This is by far our favorite place to dine! It checks all the boxes. Do yourself a favor and order the ribeye lightly blackened. By far the best steak I ever ate. The house salad with honey bacon dressing is fantastic.

I went with a group of ladies and everyone was happy with their dinner. A few of us tried the seasonal apple martini and it was delicious. Our server was so great, she was efficient, polite and interacted with everyone. I had the butterfish, I highly recommend it. Now on to the dessert. The brownie was beyond delicious!
