Hello, we are Sansom Kabob House. A local Afghan restaurant bringing authentic Afghan cuisine from the core of Afghanistan. We originally opened on October 2nd, 2002. We were on 1526 Sansom St. for 14 years and then moved to 1300 South St. We create gourmet Afghan food that you can find in Afghanistan or here at our Philadelphia location. We have mouthwatering flavors starting from our bread to our kabobs. Our bread's recipe and technique have been passed down from the founder's great-great-grandfather, who owned an array of bakeries and managed many restaurants in Kabul. Passed through generations to our chef, who brought delicious meals to 15th and Sansom of Philadelphia. Then from 15th and Sansom to 1300 South St.

We have delectable food that you fall in love with and will bring comfort to you, from our meat lovers to our vegans. We do reservations, groups, take-out, delivery, catering, waiter service, and maintain a great family environment.

We had a quiet dinner as the dining room was not full. The food was amazing. Our waitress was attentive and very helpful. The dining room is very nicely appointed. We would definitely go back.

I’m annoyed about getting no points and don’t understand the reason. Prices are slightly higher than two nearby restaurants. Yet, the food was excellent.

I’ve been going to this restaurant since it was at a different location many years, and I’m glad to say nothing has changed. It’s consistently good, and the family that runs this place are wonderful people. I highly recommend this place!

Delicious! Wait staff friendly, informative, helpful explaining dishes! Their suggestions were perfect, we enjoyed everything we tried. Sansom kabobs, tender and cooked perfect. Loved the AShak, soup, chalaw Banjan and the afgahan ice cream, all yummy!

I have been at this restaurant many times and this past time I went for dinner and I felt the portions of the meals have been cut back! Also, when asked for the hummus and bread - there were 5 of us and that's all we got, was 5 small slices of the bread - prior visits we were given a full basket of bread. Not sure if the staff didn't feel like making any! The service was sluggish which was a surprise because there were 2 employees working and there were only 2 sets of tables of people - one of which was us. The food was excellent and we will return, but hoping the next time the portions will be better in size!

We had been anxious to try this restaurant for awhile and were not disappointed. The ambiance was very nice and felt truly ethnic, including the music, unlike some other ethnic restaurants. We had no idea what to expect foodwise, but everything was delicious. We will be back!

The food did not arrive hot and was not as flavorfull as I remember it. Our main courses arrived and there was no bread accompaniment. I would view the restaurant as overpriced and the service as amateurish.

I used to love this place when they were actually on Sansom Street, where they were a below-street-level local "joint" and was so sad when they closed. But happy again when they opened back up a year later on South Street. Its current incarnation if a very nice, comfortable, quiet, and delicious restaurant appropriate for midweek or casual dining, including a medium-sized group. The food is really tasty and delicious. I particularly love the Qablee Palaw - lamb chunks under rice with carrots & raisins - really great! The scallion dumplings with yogurt-meat sauce is great (Ashak). And the baklava is a bit different from the usual Greek baklava, with a cardamon flavor that works really well. It is quiet, comfortable, and very nice service. Very affordable and BYOB. I highly recommend it.

Our first dinner at Sansom Kabob House did not disappoint! We enjoyed several appetizers, including the hummus and sambosa, as well as kabob entrees and meatballs in sauce. Everything was cooked perfectly. Service was warm and capable, and the space is beautiful. We will be back!

Delicious food, great service and BYOB is huge plus. 3 of us had ashak, bulani and kadu appetizers. All delicious. I had the Qablee Pilaw which is my go to at Afghan restaurants. It was as yummy as I'd hoped. My husband had the Sansom Chicken Kabob which was also tastey. The baklava was probably the best I've had - not too sticky sweet and crispy.

I was told that the dining room was wheel chair accessible. While it is, nobody from the restaurant helped with the door or the loose outdoor carpet at the entrance until we encountered a frightening situation with our wheel chair.

I've been to Sansom Kabob House a handful of times and I totally love it! Everything on the menu is delicious and has that warm-hug comfort quality. I often forgo kabobs (although they are fabulous) because I especially love the ashak (scallion filled dumplings, something like ravioli, with meaty tomato sauce and yogurt) and the meatballs (spiced, in a tomato sauce, served with rice) but I love everything I've had there! The entrees all come with bread, spicy chutney and green salad with yogurt dressing--the perfect starter for sure. There's a good sized vegetarian entree section which is awesome. And the desserts (baklava, ice cream, and milk pudding) are all outstanding: floral, satisfying, and refreshing. I love the vibe (more relaxed than rowdy) and the decor (gorgeous art objects everywhere and a beautiful mural).

Absolutely delicious dinner in a beautiful new restaurant (I enjoyed the food in the old digs on Samson street often). But the service was inattentive and the evening was spoiled somewhat by struggling to get a server's attention for water or naan, and then not getting the request honoured. But still, the food was unsurpassed and overall, I would return again for a fine meal.
