Ship Inn Seafood and Steak
Here at Ship Inn Seafood & Steak, we pride ourselves in providing an excellent dining experience from detailed service to the freshest ingredients.
Our original building was built in 1796 and has since carried a tradition of welcoming guests for a memorable dining experience. Our gorgeous restaurant is perfect for private dining, business luncheons, bar patrons, as well as private events. We have separate dining rooms which are perfect for that special event, a romantic dinner, or a fun night out. We also have a beautiful DOG FRIENDLY patio!
We look forward to extending our hospitality and fine cuisine to you and your guests while you dine in one of Chester County's oldest and most historic buildings.
Poor service, food not as expected, special Oktoberfest menu was ordered but not received. Veal was over cooked. Wanted to give them another try after the renovations, have dined here for many years but they have gone way down on service and quality. Will not be back.
The Octoberfest menu was great. Best sauerbraten I have had in years.
Thought they ambience was down scaled too much from previous visits. No table clothes was a bit too much like a Denny's.
Probably be back as everything the two of us had tasted great.
The bar has a nice warm feeling. Excellent bar tender. We moved to the patio area for dinner which was lovely. Our server was perfect and had a sense of humor along w excellent menu knowledge. Food was delicious. My friend and I both had flounder. Everything was cooked well w nice presentation. The green beans were a bit too soft otherwise our meals were delicious. I will be back.
We really enjoyed the beauty of the restaurant and it was relaxing. The cocktail list is great and delicious.
Everyone was amazing from the wait staff, chef and owner. After residing in Exton for almost 20 years, I’d never wanted to venture into The Ship Inn. Boy was I wrong for staying away!
The fried Brie to the Korean cheesesteak… muah! so good!
Thanks for a wonderful experience! I will definitely be back!
We saw the restaurant rescue episode about ship inn. After watching the show we were excited to try the “new” ship inn. The service was out standing. The restaurant rescue “make over” is great. Unfortunately, the foo was not what we expected. My wife ordered a burger done medium, it came out well done. The Korean chicken sandwich added as a result of the make over is good but not what I expected after watching the show. Bottom line, with all the other choices of restaurants in the area we probably won’t return.
We were greeted and sat immediately. The decor in the section we were sat was very nice. It had a nautical theme. We were sat at a corner table. We were familiar with the Ship Inn but we’re interested in trying it since seeing Robert Irvine’s visit. Our server was pleasant and explained all of the specials. There was an issue with one of the drinks but was quickly taken care of. The menu seemed odd and the food choices were disconnected. The prices were ridiculous. $18 fish and chips and a $16 flatbread. The soup at $10 a bowl was quite delicious although pricey. The portion sizes did not reflect the prices. Part way through our meal we were feeling very warm and were then told the AC had broken that day which was a 95 degree day. It wasn’t a horrible visit but I don’t believe we will be returning any time soon.
NO BREAD,NO MASHED POTATOES, NO RUSSIAN DRESSING, NO BANANA ICE CREAM ( A SPECIALTY ). UNDERSTAFFED.
We saw this restaurant on Restaurant Impossible and we decided to take a ride. The food was really good and the service was excitement! We will definitely be going back!
Very pleasant experience
It was an absolute fantastic experience. It’s been years since we’ve been there and we were not disappointed.
The crab cake entree is 99% crab. Excellent.
The bar and appetizers are great but the food wasn't good enough.
The menu is kind of strange but we knew that. We had the fish and chips but but they were flounder but again the menu said that but there was more batter than fish. The tops were nice and crunchy however the bottoms were oil sogged. The Korean cheesesteak was quite good and the calamari was very good
Went because we heard Restaurant Impossible had been there to help. Well, I guess somethings are impossible.
Started when we enter restaurant via the door that said dining entrance. Only to find out is wasn’t and had to hunt for the hostess station which was at the back of the restaurant.
Were given a dinner menu only to find out there was a brunch menu. When we asked why other tables had different food, they said “Oh Sorry we gave you wrong ones, but since you ordered it’s too late to change”.
Got our food. Was bland, even though we got the TV specials.
When it did come out, really a long time, it was lukewarm.
Waitress had sweat pouring down her face, just hoped nothing dripped onto our plates.
Found hair on two of our plates.
When complained to waitress she took plate and brought it back, put it on the table and said sorry. Won’t charge you for it. Said dishwasher quit and everyone had to chip in.
Complained to Manager, once we found him. Never apologized and said he knew and took it off our bill.
Robert Irvin would have been embarrassed to have his name associated with such poor product and sweaty service.
Refurbished casual dining room seemed like a hotel breakfast room. The bar area looks very nice though. There is also outside seating which may be nice. Food was good not great.
Beautifully redone interior. Food was decent, steak was undercooked but Harry fixed it immediately. His service was well above par and very friendly. Would return just for service alone.
we sat in one of the beautiful old dining rooms instead of the new back sun room. i found the sun room had too much of an echo bouncing off the ceiling and walls. our waitress was excellent and able to provide historical information on the restaurant and the renovations which made the evening more fun. we will go back again!
The food and service were very good. Nice colonial tavern atmosphere in the original section of building. Sadly, traffic noise distracted from the overall experience.
We’ were excited to see the ship in after the renovation. Typically give restaurants a little while to work the bugs out after a change. The food was good. Not exceptional. The decor looks great. I think it’s still a little pricey at least on the lunch menu but will definitely give it another chance
Had a wonderful birthday celebration there this past weekend!
Great experience and food
Always great service and good food. New decor looks great.
Excellent meal, friendly waitstaff.
An outstanding time and delicious food, attentive and friendly service.
Great social distancing in a historic building.
Truly a special time.
Great atmosphere and outstanding food. Our server was slow and disinterested which disrupted the experience however the food will definitely bring us back.
Easter dinner was very nice. Food was great, service great. We’ll be back again.
We were very happy with the menu, the food, and the service. The food was exquisite, we had a fire in the fireplace and old school ambiance.
Beautiful historic building. We had a wonderful time out together the food was delicious the ambience was gorgeous very nice evening
We are new to the area and trying out various places. Very nice homey atmosphere and super quiet. Service was attentive. Food was good, but not top shelf. Cuts of meat were so-so and somewhat overcooked. Compared to other similarly priced restaurants in the area that we've tried so far, we likely won't be back soon.
Wonderful restaurant ! Quality of food & service outstanding
To quote my quest "Dinner was lovely"! We had a great dinner with excellent food and outstanding service. Having a table for two by the fireplace didn't hurt either.
first off our problems started in the parking lot when only 2 of the 3 parking lots where plowed and they where out of spaces in the first 2 parking lots so me and my wife had to park in the unplowed parking lot with 8" of snow. once seated it took the waitress 15-20 minutes to take our drink order. and another 20 minutes to try and take our food order but she told us they where out of calamari, shrimp and filet mignon. being valentines day and a prefixed menu, 3 of the 4 steak items included filet mignon, and a lot of the seafood items used shrimp. when I asked what was included with the surf and turf, she replied she didn't know and would have to go ask. 15 more minutes later she came back and tried to take our order and I explained to here that she never told us what was included with the surf and turf. she had to run back to the kitchen and ask again. this time she came back and said 2 lobster tails. I asked how that was a surf and turf? now over an hour into this ordeal (she still hasn't gotten us refills on the drinks from 45 mins ago even though we had our empty glasses sitting on the edge of the table) we finally get to give her our order, even though both my wife and I order something we really didn't want due to the fact that they where out of so much. 15 minutes late our appetizers come out and while my lobster bisque had very good flavor, it was only broth with no chunks of lobster at all. My shrimp cocktail where 4 for $15 and the where medium at best, not jumbo, but I guess I should be happy to have shrimp at all since my order was the last thing they had with shrimp from the menu. now when the main course came I had a ribeye since they didn't have filet mignon, and it was super fatty and very tough, I only was able to eat 1/2 of it. by this time we where so fed up with this place all we wanted to do was leave. we didn't even look at the desert menu, we went to Wawa and bought two chocolate chip cookies. we will never return to the ship inn again.
This place is a very quiet and cozy place. We went on Valentines day and It was a bit busy, which was a little overwhelming for the cook since some of the items we selected were not fully cook or a bit cold. The manager did make it right and the server Christine was outstanding. We will be coming back and trying out some of the other dishes that are offered.
Server wasn’t personable or attentive. Could’ve been because they were short staffed, not sure. Food and atmosphere was great!
The food is always great here but slightly overpriced. The crepe we ordered for dessert did not taste cooked but this is not typical of Ship Inn as we have been here many times before. We will definitely return in the future.
Had a very nice dinner celebrating Valentine’s Day. Our server and the ambiance was excellent.
We began with a reservation for both Valentines Day and our 25th Anniversary. Upon arrival, the owner asked our name, then proceeded to take us to the back of the restaurant passing multiple socially safe seats exactly as our reservation requested. When I said we had requested to sit out of the walkway by a fireplace, he said, “I thought you might like the window”. Except we were specific about a fireplace. Not even sure why they ask for special requests. Then we ordered drinks, appetizers and salads. All of which were very good. Our dinners however were not. The Black and Blue Ribeye was extremely salty and well past the medium requested. The Steak Diane was more like a processed frozen Salisbury steak. The owner said it was filet but it had been tenderized so much it had no chew at all and the sauce was a think mushroom gravy. Both were supposed to come with Red Bliss Mashed Potatoes but instead they served very bland fried potato chunks. The owner stated that they were out of mashed potatoes. We were at the restaurant at 6:30 on a Saturday night and your signature side is already gone? Run to Walmart for gods sake. That’s where the rest of the meal came from. When I asked to speak with the owner, he refused and said he’d meet me at the door on my way out. I went to find him. His excuses were lame and unbelievable. I hadn’t asked for anything and ate the meal. I only let the waitress know we didn’t get what we asked for but ate it anyway. When the excuses started and I was treated as though I didn’t know anything, my attitude changed. The owner asked what I wanted, I told him I wasn’t paying for my Salisbury steak. He did reduce my bill by half, but the evening was a waste. I chose to celebrate my 25th Anniversary in his place but I’ll never go back. Service was excellent. Food and owner attitude were worse than any chain restaurant and TGIF has better quality.
My wife and I ate here on Feb. 10, 2021. The food was delicious and we sat next to a cozy fireplace. The service was also good. I would definitely come back again.
Have not been to this restaurant in a while but the equality is no different then an Applebees.
