Sketch Lecture Room and Library

This business lunch booking was made well in advance as would be expected for such a special and sought after dining experience in this Mayfair corner. The guests were absolutely delighted and thrilled with the culinary creativity and taste sensations, not to mention the exemplary wine menu. Simply outstanding on all counts.
Great dining experience. Had a business lunch there and it really did feel like an occasion. The food is well thought out and full of surprises and the Lunch menu was very good value. Highly recommended!
Amazing place, very modern decor, and the food is great as well, they're very keen on adjusting the items if you don't eat one of the ingredients. The wine list though is totally overpriced, that should be where they make their margin...
We had the Tasting Menu and the service can get a little slow so be warned. Most of the dishes were excellent both in cooking and presentation but a few were too fussy with too many flavours competing for attention. However, it is always a memorable experience coming to Sketch and that can't be said for many restaurants.
I visited Sketch Lecture Room and Library for the first time on a business dinner this week. When I write these restaurant reviews I always talk about wow factor when you first walk in but Sketch clearly laughs in the face of wow factor and moves it right on up to 'Oh my god!'
Firstly, the service was faultless and the room is amazing with great ambiance but it’s not stuffy at all and everyone who served us did so with wonderful courtesy and respect.
To get things going you are presented with no less than seven amuse-bouche/canapés of wildly varying flavours and a lovely selection of bread.
The next two courses of Scallops followed by Asparagus are actually three plates of food per course. One plate was the centrepiece with the other two plates for each course being support acts. I should say this isn’t tapas dining, you are guided in which order to eat each dish.
The next course was Morel Ravioli with foie gras velouté, a really lovely dish followed by the main event of Chicken accompanied by some vibrant spring veg and a pot of curried potatoes. This would not look out of place on an a la carte menu in some restaurants I know.
Finally we got to the seven desserts, I had to call it a day after the first three!
I’ve been mulling this meal over and over and trying to put my finger on it. I loved the ideas, I loved the theatre, I loved the service, I loved the way the food was presented and I really loved the Riesling but I don’t think I really loved the food. It was very good, don’t get me wrong but I think there were too many things going on and nothing that truly wowed.
For the tasting menu (£120), accompanying wine flights (£135), bottles of water, champagne and tea, the bill with tip came to about £322 a head. For the shear spectacle, service and quantity of food, it’s very good value at this level. It just missed the mark a bit on flavour I think for me overall.
Having said all that, I’d go again in a heartbeat!
A good experience for food and ambience. Service was attentive. The only let down was a marked napkin and fork. This is something that is a definite no no. Outside of that very enjoyable
Set in a beautiful building on Conduit St, Sketch offers several restaurants and bars. The Lecture Room & Library, with 2 Michelin stars, is a great place for a fancy dinner. We went a la carte on the recommendation of the waiter, and it was really interesting. Each course comes with 3, 4 or 5 different plates and so you end up eating a lot of food - all of it beautifully prepared and presented. It is expensive, but a good place for a splurge.
First impression very good. Very friendly staff, very romantic, great decor - very Pink. Nice menu but very very expensive when comparing to some fab eateries in London.
Unisex toilets super cool egg pods! Odd mirrors - quite unusual.
If you are going on expenses, then it is a must, if you are paying for yourself...save your pennies.
More trendy than classical, probably more suitable for 22-30 year olds :-(. I even ventured into the funky little bar and had a ridiculously over priced cocktail. My friends 25 year old daughter loved it, of course we were paying!
I went for a business lunch for two. The decor at Sketch is beautiful and there's a lot of detail everywhere you look. The lecture room is presented in a modern eastern style and is immaculate. The chairs are very comfortable and you're given a side table for the bits that would normally clutter the table. You can see why this is necessary as every course comes with about 6 carefully selected dishes each containing taste sensations to complement your main selection. It's easy to forget what each dish is but due to their simple elegance it's easy enough to work it out.
It's not cheap but worth it for the experience once or twice a year! Splash out, treat yourself. Even if you're not, someone you know is worth it.
It is trying too hard to be up there.
Food was well executed but neither creative nor really special. No surprise. It was good not great. Price was out of range for this type of experience.
Excellent service. remarkably knowledgeable sommelier.
Sketch was recommended by a girlfriend for sometime but didn't have time to try it out. Went for lunch last week and the food was execellent with creative presentation, very good service and ambience too. Would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for good food and fun environment in west end.
Entrance and the way going up stairs are surrounded by interesting arts produced by South African artist, I have never visit this kind of restaurant like a museum. The main dining room is very bright by light coming through the skylight on the ceiling. The food is slightly eccentric also artistic but not so agreeable.
2nd time here and didn't disappoint - the lunch special deal was great value too.
very romantic setting with most amazing food and great service
Our third visit to this pretty restaurant. The food and service is of very high quality. Highly recommended.
From arriving to leaving the staff were attentive & friendly.
We ate in the lecture room & had the 3 course set menu with half a bottle of wine & water, great value.
The food was superb, thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
Best French restaurant in London, much better than Alain ducasse
I took my daughter for lunch and it was such a wonderful experience.
Excellent service, amazing food and presentation, lovely atmosphere and ambience.
I will be going again when I am in London!
Nice place to have afternoon tea with friends or with your love ones. Very unique decor for the place and even the restroom.
If Sketch was in any other city in the UK or indeed almost any other city in general, its food - which is excellent: carefully presented with unexpectedly proficient service etc., would be so special that you would simply accept that such an experience costs an exorbitant price. However, this is London, and Mayfair alone offers a host of venues whose table linen is equally expensive, whose service is equally flawless, and whose food is equally inventive/unique/delicious. Sketch is good - there is nothing to ostensibly criticise. But it is very hard to justify £95 on a tasting menu that is certainly not better and perhaps not as good as the equilvalents in the area.
For a restaurant at has been established so long, and appealing to discerning clientele, the service was pretty poor. We went midweek so it wasn't that busy, but it really felt like an amateurish service team.
The service was second to none, with friendly, attentive, knowledgeable staff who attended our every need and we even got a tour of the kitchen which was amazing. Food was divine and a total gastronomic experience. This was all packaged up in a beautiful building decorated decadently and full of history. All in all an experience to remember.
Treat myself to lunch here and it didn't disappoint. I went for the 3 course gourmet rapide lunch (not that rapide, though who goes to a 2-star restaurant for a quick bite anyway?) with half a bottle of wine, and it was all wonderful. The main - duck - was lovely, but it was the extras that made it: the excellent and friendly service, the amuses bouche, the 4 starters, the cheese plate - the best I've ever had. It needs 3 tables brought over to display all of it. I was offered a second round of it, and then dessert, despite this not being included in the menu. With champagne before, coffee and petits fours and service it came to £90, which considering all was better than I expected. Want to go back and try the 7 course tasting menu now!
This was the first time I had been back to Sketch for a few years, and was impressed by the refurb job. It really is one of the most spectacular looking places in London. I found the menu highly confusing. In the A La carte the starters were £48 for a 5 way Langustine dish, which as described were five Tapas type dishes. We had the £95 tasting menu which seemed better value, and it was excellent. There were too many deserts at then end, but otherwise was very good. Service was excellent apart from one little slip when only the Gentlemen were offered a digestif! This offended the lades in our party, but the grovelling apology was well handled, by an otherwise extremely slick team. Expensive, for sure, but well worth a visit
Visiting from New York City (where we have enjoyed dining in most of the city's top restaurants), we weren't quite sure what to expect of the London-based restaurant of noted Paris-based chef Pierre Gagnaire. However, he and his team clearly hire and train excellent talent, putting SKETCH Lecture Room and Library on a par with NYC's finest restaurants. We loved everything about our recent visit -- the cutting-edge decor, the inventive cuisine, the extraordinary wine service (which included some fascinating selections at eye-poppingly reasonable prices for London, all served with passionate enthusiasm by the restaurant's very charming and knowledgeable sommelier), and the well-orchestrated dining room service. Would love to return!
i took my family to this restaurant and it didn't make me disappointed! they enjoy the meal and ambience and everything=)
even though they are not familiar with french/european food, they liked their dishes and service is also very good
id like to visit here again!
Everything was wonderful. The food and service were of the highest order.
Everything was pretty much perfect. I've been to this restaurant few times before. BUT I will never go at dinner again.. ithe meal just takes toooo long for me.
This time for lunch we took the menu rapide, but even at rapide it took us 2hrs (at least) to finish. The food is lovingly presented and explantions of what each course is was well given. The dining room is lovely and it is a real experience each time.
VERY GOOD just allow a lot of time.... approx GBP140 for 3person includes 3 course n coffee tea. We also had 2 bottles of bottles water.
This is a very special restaurant with outstanding food and a very good atmosphere. The wine choice is excellent and the sommelier was very friendly and helpful. However, you pay for the privilege.
Having decided to celebrate by seeking a tasting menu, we found Sketch in Conduit Street.
It obviously sets out to make an impression, as one has to wait to be escorted up the stairs to the very opulent dining room. We both thought the food was outstanding and the service excellent in a very pleasant ambience.
Not a cheap evening but well worth considering for a special occasion.
It was a very good experiance.
Service perfect without being too conservative.
very interesting interior
A fantastic experience for my 30th birthday as treated by my friends and fellow foodies. Its one that you must try if you're on a Michelin journey. The service is exemplary
A wonderful experience - everything was just perfect!
We wanted somewhere a little bit different and special to go to for our Christmas lunch and Sketch was perfect. We had the seven course-tasting menu which was ideal for a long leisurely lunch, where the focus is on the food and spending quality time with each other. The service was excellent and the room an experience in itself.
The Lunchtime menu provides good value in this excellent restaurant, in beautiful surroundings with outstanding service.
all I’m going to say is try this place out, you won’t be disappointed. The set lunch is outstanding value
No amount of ambience, service, quirky toilets and French maid uniforms can detract from poor food. Two of our four main courses were particularly dreadful. One of my guests made a valiant attempt but left about half of his and another guest could not get beyond one or two mouthfuls of the shoe leather like beef. The uneaten meal was removed from the bill however when conveying this to us the waiter attempted to detract from the poor quality of the food by saying that the diner in question wasn't hungry enough to eat it. This embarrassed and angered the lady in question who responded with a hearty "no I am starving but the meat was inedible".
Had a superb experience at Sketch. The main dining room (Lecture Room) was a wonderful oasis of elegance and calm. The service was immaculate and unobtrusive yet they seemed to anticipate your needs before you realised the need yourself.
We had the “Gourmet Rapide” lunch with wine and water (currently £53 per head plus service) but as we had no need of the “Rapide” part, we were in no way hurried; the “Gourmet” part certainly delivered.
Whilst enjoying a glass of champagne, we were deliberating on what to choose for our starters when the waiter informed us that the first course did not require any choices, all the listed dishes would be served for us to share – this was excellent news as we were struggling to decide. When the dishes arrived, all were very tasty and cleverly designed but, as often happens, some were more to my taste than others. When the waiter cleared the table, I happened to mention that one of the dishes was particularly delicious – shortly afterwards he returned with a generous extra supply of that dish; I was most impressed. The rest of the meal was most enjoyable – the food, the wine, the service, the ambiance, everything (even my handbag was happy with it’s own “seat”).
After a most splendid lunch, we were offered a personal tour of the building - it is absolutely fascinating – a wonderful mix of eclectic art and formal surroundings dotted randomly with Swarovski crystals, quite mad. The Café and two further dining experience areas all had their own merits and I would love to go back and try them, especially as I understand that some of the areas are to be re-done by the next generation of artists.
All in all, a wonderful foodie lunch and escape from reality for a few hours, I won’t hesitate to come back, even if I don’t quite understand the art!
The food was slightly left-field (amazing desserts including mushrooms and Parmesan!), but I was hoping for something even more challenging. We went for a tasting menu and they were very accommodating in making one of these meat-free - not just removing the meat, but adding interesting fish and vegetarian dishes. I think I would have given Sketch higher ratings if I hadn't already been to Viajante which is superb. Also, as everyone had said Sketch was great, I think my expectations were set a little unfairly high. Overall I'd definitely recommend Sketch, particularly if you take someone as a surprise - and don't spoil it by telling them about the loos!
Unfortunately, Sketch had lost our reservation which meant a 10 min delay while I searched my bberry for the confirmation e-mail. There after the experience was faultless. The food was excellent and the service first rate - friendly and welcoming. We had a slap up lunch of 3 courses plus 2 glasses of fizz to start and desert wine which totaled to just over 500 quid. So not cheap but a lot of fun. They have an express menu which is pretty reasonable and the wine list was very well priced starting around 35 quid.
