The Slanted Door offers diners a gourmet experience where the food on the plate looks as beautiful as the views of the Golden Gate Bridge from every table. Charles Phan, the executive chef, goes to the root of the dishes to represent the food authentically with a modern twist. The Slanted Door offers lunch and dinner menus with a variety of appetizers, palate cleansers and main dishes.

The meals consist of organic elements including grass-fed beef and pasture-raised, cage-free chickens. Local seafood options include wild Gulf shrimp, spicy Monterey squid and seared Ahi tuna, or visitors can take advantage of the raw seafood bar. Those looking for a vegetarian or vegan menu will find plenty of options available. The Slanted Door offers a family-style menu and a wide selection of desserts with an extensive bar menu to wash it all down.

The food and views were incredible! Unfortunately we felt we had poor service (my husband and I are in our 20’s so perhaps there was a bias that we wouldn’t tip as well as older patrons?). Would go back for the food and hopefully a future waiter would be more attentive!

We arrived for our dinner reservations early - but they were able to seat us - which we appreciated. The food was terrific - but the seating reminded me of cafeteria style. This is not where you want to go if you want to have a nice quiet evening or one where you would want to have a conversation in. I like my dinner atmospheres to be a little more relaxed.

We made a reservation online well in advance for an 8:45 table for 4. We were there 5 minutes early. There were 6 others groups of four who arrived after us who were seated first. Placed in a horrifically loud area with a table behind us (chairs touching) and a table exactly next to us, tables touching. The noise was extremely loud. We asked to be moved and the hostess absolutely refused. My husband persisted and we moved to a bay view area of the restaurant. The food was good, the beverages were good, but overall would NOT recommend this dining experience to anyone.

Delicious food and cocktails. Excellent service. Not only was food amazing, it looked beautiful. Only downside is a bit noisy for a business or intimate dinner. Nonetheless we were both glad to go

The food is very good but the prices are excessive for the serving size. $16 for two shrimp dumplings? They were large but still.... We went on a rainy Wednesday night and the noise level made conversation impossible. The place was packed so it is obviously very popular. I guess the prices reflect the location more than anything else. If so, go for lunch so you can enjoy the view. Service was friendly but we had to wave the waiter over twice for wine. It was never there when the courses were delivered (by someone else).

I was looking forward to eating at The Slanted Door while visiting San Francisco—pretty much expecting some of the best Vietnamese dishes that the area had to offer. Since the food is served family style and we were only two people, my friend and I only ordered one appetizer and one entrée and were extremely disappointed with both.

The Slanted Door Spring Rolls ($15) with gulf shrimp, pork, mint, shallot mayonnaise, peanut sauce had maybe four boiled shrimp in our order and maybe some bland pork. The peanut dipping sauce was the highlight of the dish as the rest of the appetizer had zero flavor.

The Caramelized Wild Gulf Shrimp ($35) with garlic, yellow onion, caramel chili sauce was just that…shrimp and onions served on a big plate….nothing special (sad looking in fact) and vividly reminiscent of my local take out. There wasn’t even enough sauce on the plate to drizzle over our side order of Jasmine Rice.

Pop in for a drink as the views from the outdoor seating were stunning, but if you enjoy good food, there have got to be better Vietnamese restaurants in the area for the money.

Slanted Door is my go-to-place in San Francisco and I have been going there every time I go back to the city. The food is always good but I feel that they need to start adding a few new dishes to their repertoire as it's been the same menu for years.

For several years, Slanted Door has been one of my favorite restaurants. I was here for lunch in November and everything was wonderful. This January dinner was very disappointing. The sauce for the Crispy Imperial Rolls was so hot it was nearly inedible. When we asked our waiter, he came back with a much tamer version and explained it depended on who seasoned it. I have had these several times and never had that problem. The ribs were small and gristly. When our plates were removed, and new cutlery and plates brought to the table, one fork was sticky and had rice on it, and the plate was dirty. The bathroom was dirty, and the attendant was chatting in a storeroom with another employee.
Maybe it was an off night, but I have come to expect much more. It will be a while before I go back.

I didn't know what to expect as this was our first time, and I was pleasantly surprised. We just ordered a couple of apps to share (the grapefruit, cabbage salad & the crispy spring rolls). Both dishes were very tasty - the salad was amazing. I wish they didn't use canola oil to cook everything in, but rather an avocado or olive oil, but other than that it was nice. Great service too.

While it’s a beautiful spot overlooking the Bay Bridge, the food is average. I remember absolutely loving it when it first opened but now the menu seems tired and the food doesn’t live up to the description. The flavors are lacking in depth and seemed very average to me. We primarily made vegetarian choices (except for the scallops which were delicious) so perhaps that’s not their forte? However, this is the Bay Area and the restaurant is California-Vietnamese so you’d think decent vegetarian options would be important.

Also, it’s very loud. So sorry, Slanted Door, you have become a tourist trap.

I rarely do these reviews, but the service at Slanted Door was awful. There were great amounts of time between when our waiter stopped by, meaning we were there for over 2 hours unnecessarily. I even saw him in the kitchen area putting on his coat and hat, meaning he LEFT before our meal was over, without even stopping by to explain that his shift was over. (I guess?) Such a frustrating experience from a fine dining restaurant.

My husband and I went for our anniversary while visiting San Francisco. We had been told by multiple people that we should try this restaurant. The restaurant has. Great vibe. The tables are very close together, it almost felt like we were eating with the tables on either side of us. The food was excellent! We ordered the imperial spring rolls, the glass noodles and chicken hot pot. Each dish we ordered was better then that last. Excellent experience.

Food is always great here. A bit disappointed to have to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time but it was very busy. Noise level was pretty high the first half of the meal but lessened as it got later and the bar thinned out. View I hard to beat as well. Service was a bit spotty which I had never experienced here before.

Overall great food in a beautiful space. Reason it is crowded.

Tuesday dinner (8 p.m.) reservation. Arrived early. Seated a bit after 8:20. Restaurant was so loud so as to be painful, with conversation virtually impossible. Slow service. Not particularly attentive. Impersonal. Bad advice about amount of food to order, leading to overspending on our part and wasted food. Unimaginative and bland dishes. Cramped seating, leading to being bumped by wait staff at least four times, and almost falling while trying to get out from behind the table. Very expensive/ poor value for the money. Such an inconceivable letdown for a restaurant that is a San Francisco institution.

The food is outstanding, and sitting at a window seat gives a fun view. I went here a few years ago, when it was "doscovered" and it was a bit pricey and too many "beautiful people". Now, it has settled down a bit and is terrific.

Came here for a family brunch. Met/exceeded expectations with its excellent homestyle food, a little dressed up. Ambiance (room lit by minimal indoor lighting + sunlight peeking through grey skies/clouds) and homestyle family style plating/servingware made it perfect for the rainy day we ventured out in to get to the Ferry Building. Warm and efficient service + Hong Kong Milk Tea split 4 ways were icing on the cake to a great meal. Pricey for sure, but was not sorry to have made the trip and spent the $.

In the past I have loved this restaurant but sadly it is simply not the same at all. Poor service, unfilled water, slow to respond at every level including drink orders. Wait staff wasn’t even very friendly. Food too, has lost it’s fine quality. I’m so very disappointed. We will be looking for new birthday traditions.

I wanted to try this place for the longest time. We had the stir fry chicken, coconut pork belly, brussel sprouts with chinese sausage and dungeness crab with noodles.
Service was good but not nothing to dive for. Our server made a mistake about our order so we had to wait another 10mins to receive our main entrees. We should have at least got a free cocktail of some sort for waiting a little longer than usual.
Food portions were great but for the price you pay, a little overpriced for it. I guess you are paying for the location. I do admit the coconut pork belly and dungeness crab was good. The brussel sprouts with chinese sausage was mediocre at best and the sprouts were a bit undercooked. It is such an ordinary dish for the price you are paying. The stir fry chicken was bountiful but the mixture of chinese dates and some sort of nuts made it taste weird.
Now that I have checked this place out, I probably will not eat there for awhile due to the price you are paying for such ordinary dishes.

Food was tasty and creative. Enjoyed the rice paper rolls, the clay pot chicken, the bok choy and the Toblerone ice cream was outstandingly delicious. The 6 oysters were too expensive as they were very small. The service was very good. I like the online booking and the fact the restaurant takes late night bookings. Overall an enjoyable experience.

We were underwhelmed by every dish- it had the generic blandness characteristic of a place that caters more to the tourist than the foodie.
When you combine that with the pricing more in line with a restaurant that would truly deliver a quality experience-of which there are many in SF- the experience was disappointing. The place has now become such a destination that it is getting by as a "scene" rather than a restaurant. It has as much to do with authentic Vietnamese food as PF Changs has to do with real Szechuan. I guess this is what happens when you get big and have to compromise quality to handle volume.

We were not wowed by the food and had at least five different dishes yet I have been there before and have thoroughly enjoyed it. None of he dishes wowed and they were quite bland. We may not go back but for the amazing bar, overall atmosphere and view. It was definitely a packed house which is great, as we love a lively restaurant! However for dining at 6:15pm, our waiter got very busy quickly and forgot about us often. I would have ordered a second drink but he never came back during the main course so I waited until dessert course. We are very easy going people but it was disappointing. Thank you all the same
