Other than the fact that the ladies room was disgusting everything was wonderful. Great service and great food.
Smokin' Betty's was awesome! From the atmosphere with the brick walls to the servers with their smiling faces to the food - I can't wait to go back! We were a party of 4. The food choices looked so appetizing, we couldn't decide on one. So we all ordered a different brunch item and shared with each other. We loved all 4 dishes - the mascarpone bread pudding french toast with bananas and caramel, the country gravy with biscuits, the Betty's breakfast, and the huevos rancheros all were delicious! We will definitely be back for seconds!!
Excellent service. Food was ver good. I had a group with me and they really enjoyed being at the restaurant
Had a 5:45 reservation, at 6:15 I still couldn’t get the hostess to acknowledge I was there and there was a full line of people waiting on tables. Hostess did not address the diners or say a word to us and did not seem to have any urgency in resolving the situation. Ended up leaving the restaurant after the 30 minute wait with no word.
The hostess station was not well managed. The hostess was fixated on managing a missing food order over managing new patrons.
Good was good. Good size portions. The restaurant was uncomfortably cold; ate meal with coat on! Make a reservation because the restaurant filled up quickly beginning at 5:30.
The food was delicious, but we were disappointed overall. It appeared someone had called out and the place was chaos. Even checking in was a mess since the hostess was acting as the food runner. Once we were finally seated I reminded our waitress we were there to celebrate a birthday (also noted in our reservation). Our waitress was good but the place was freezing, like feet numb freezing. The food arrived in spurts and I was disappointed that even with the reminder they didn’t make the dessert “birthday” special.
We stopped at Smokin Betty’s before seeing Hamilton at the Forest Theatre. The food was delicious, service was great and it was reasonably priced for Center City. We will be back!
We've dined here before, and we knew to expect a lively dining room and delicious food. The proximity to The Forrest Theater makes Smokin' Betty's the perfect before-the-show destination.
I made my Open Table reservation for 5:45PM for a 7:30PM show. The theater is a pair of minutes from the restaurant, so I thought this was ample time to dine... chat... linger over drinks.
We arrived on time, but the hostess invited us to wait in the bar, which was PACKED. We waited FIFTE EN minutes, and never did manage to get a drink, despite getting one seat at the bar (two people). The bartender disappeared, and we saw him bringing food setups out to the tables in the bar area... understaffed?! There were easily 50 people in the room.
We were seated at 6:05PM. Our server arrived for the first time at 6:20PM. Had our first drink put in front of us at 6:30PM... we'd been in the building, with a confirmed reservation, since 5:45PM.
The food is worth the wait here, but I will NEVER go before a show again. We worried about the service and the timing to the point that we wolfed our food down, paid, and ran to the theater.
GET IT TOGETHER!!!
We went here before the theater and it was a great choice, especially with two teenagers. Servers couldn’t have been nicer. Very attentive. Food was excellent. Just try to sit downstairs. We were seated upstairs and it was pretty empty and chilly. Felt a little weird.
Awesome restaurant that was able to seat a big group without a problem. The food, especially the turducken burger, is excellent!
Cute place, but food was nothing special & service was nice, but slow.
Good food, very reasonable prices, and good culinary flair and selection... Mac and Cheese which I rarely eat was awesome. Happy hour was good as well
Everything was ok but ordered soup and never got it .... that really irritates me, especially in a smaller place that’s not overly busy
Reservation at 7pm. Served food at 8:45pm. Terrible margaritas. No water served. Wrong food delivered. Food not that great. Charged for food and drinks that we didn’t order. Complained to management, Sue Schlisman. She blamed her server and took no responsibility herself. Had to argue to have bill corrected. Only 2 servers for entire restaurant. Owner Sue left the restaurant to walk her dog and made us wait an hour for her to come back to listen to our complaint. Do not come to this restaurant. There are too many other good choices in center city.
Kinda loud but good food.
Incredible food, but understaffed.
The owner/hostess was so incredibly rude to my mom and me, that I will never go back to this place or any other restaurant she owns.
Food was very good, my drink was really good and service was good.
While service was a tad slow, the food was delicious. Lots of variety on the menu. This was a great location to have dinner before walking to the theater.
Thirteen family members met at Smokin' Betty's for brunch. We all enjoyed our food. It was a little offputting when the staff did not want to seat us when 12 of the 13 people were in attendance. Everyone enjoyed their food including crabcakes benedict, eggs purgatory, sweet potato salmon hash, breakfast burritos, and more. Portions are generous and delicious. We would definitely return.
Great Brunch! Awesome bread pudding French toast👍
I’d recommend for apps and drinks but overall food and service was just ok.
We stopped into Smokin Betty’s after a show at the Forrest Theatre and was so glad that we did. The ambiance is great- modern yet comfortable. The service was great from hostess to server. I had the turkey platter which came with a generous portion of turkey, whipped sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and stuffing. I scapegoats my plate! Will be back then next time I’m in Philly.
Terrific BBQ! The staff refused to seat us until the entire party was there, then it took a while to get out order in. They had trouble finding our bar bill for some reason when we moved to our table. Staff was busy but we ended up getting out food in plenty of time and had a great dinner. Both the dry rub and BBQ sauce are excellent! They need a double front door for the winter, or those sitting near the door will get blasted with cold air!
Great food close to theater area. Our service was not the best on this particular visit but I will definitely be back! Great happy hour food and drink specials.
We made a reservation for 4 people at 6pm. We arrived a few minutes before 6 and they told us there was no table available but "maybe someone would get up soon." They offered us bar seating in the other room, which we took because we had 7:30 theatre tickets. The other room smelled like paint and the four top table was too small to actually seat 4 people. Despite there only being 3 tables in the room, it took 20 minutes for a server to come over. We weren't able to put a food order in until almost 6:40. We had to rush through our entire meal in order to leave on time. When we asked what the point of a reservation was, they said "To hold a table." When we pointed out they didn't hold a table for us, they tried to tell us we had arrived late (we didn't). While the food was good, it didn't make up for the crappy service and attitude.
Had Sunday brunch. Well- varied menu. Could not alter anything related to the specials but could for regular menu items. Food was very good. Coffee was OK. Service was inconsistent - one order was not correct and coffee and water service only came when requested but otherwise service was good and staff very friendly. I would definitely go back.
food was good loved the server she was friendly and actually felt like she cared about getting to know us
We went to this restaurant for a before theatre dinner with a reservation. We were seated promptly but things went sour after that. We ordered quickly and I ordered a drink. After about 20 minutes of waiting they brought two drinks not one. We only ordered one. After a long wait I told them that we had theatre tickets and asked when our entrees would be coming. We were told soon.
Finally our meals arrived. My dinner was delicious but they did not bring what my husband ordered. He ordered a small salad and that was his dinner no time to wait for something else. He went to the theatre hungry. The waiter said it was his fault. We were not impressed. The tables were very close together and it was noisy
The food was good and the service ok. The tables are very close together and it’s hard to get seated.
We had reservations- when we arrived there were about 20-25 people waiting who also had reservations. There was no hostess to seat people. We waited 10 minutes with other people. Asked for a manager who never came. We left and went elsewhere.
The food was good, portions large. The waiter was kind and helpful. The hostess was abominable, absent, slow, unapologetic and defensive. Ambiance was ok, kind of noisy.
Went for brunch. When we arrived there just a few other tables occupied. The wait for service was interminable. Clearly they were understaffed and it was not the waitresses’ fault but we waited 30 minutes just to get something to drink. Food when it finally arrived was very good.
Hostess/owner was rude and distracted. She wouldn’t seat us until all of our guests arrived even though she told me that our table was set and pointed it out. Once our guests were all there, she was busy cleaning, schmoozing with customers and serving others. It took a good 15 minutes to get her attention to be seated. Waiter was amazing. Food was average.
Great food as always. Service started off shaky but the kitchen got food out efficiently. Great food as always with new additions to their menu !
Once a large table finished and left the noise level went down. We did go on an unusually hot day in October and there was only one window open and no air conditioners on. I should have asked for either to be opened or put on as it was a bit stifling.
The food was great
Way too noisy- but- tolerable because of excellent food and service and proximity to theaters and other venues of interest. We'll be back!
Excellent menu, with BBQ and other things available. The BBQ chicken was great, ribs were fine, and the grilled cheese was fabulous. Our server was very nice and efficient, and while the noise level was pretty high, it was not annoying. We would definitely go back, to try some more things on the menu.
Went before a show at the Forest Theater. Service was kind of slow and we had to flag them down several times. It wasn’t super busy but a full seating when we went in around 5:30. We did have a reservation. We all thought our food choices were very good and would definitely go again, thinking service was just maybe off a little that night. The tables are plain and quite close together but a nice room. Very close to theater.
