Behind the wrought iron gate, past the herbaceous patio and through the atrium is Talula's Garden, the warm and elegant Washington Square eatery from Aimee Olexy and Starr Restaurants. The modern menu, prepared with carefully-sourced ingredients and a light European touch, changes with the seasons. The artful cuisine, hospitable staff, sustainable spirits, and a focus on cheese make the dining experience here incredibly memorable.

Delicious food- exceptional service- and very pretty inside. Looking forward to going back when the weather is warmer so we came dine outside. Very close to Walnut Street theater was a plus.

A great place! We went for brunch, but it's just as good in the evening. It gets crowded and noisy, but the food and service are first-rate. It is wonderful in the good weather, when the garden is open, but the inside space is attractive as well.

I wanted to like it more, but thought it was just OK. Out of 3 diners, no one loved their main courses, but we all agreed that the cheese plates were the high point of our meal. Actually ordered a different second cheese plate because we enjoyed the selections. The accompanying bread basket was uncharacteristically weak especially for a Starr restaurant, as we were looking forward to something more like what is served at Parc, and that would have really elevated the cheese plate even more. Good service and cocktails, though, and typically loud ambiance for a Starr restaurant.

Wonderful ambience with the garden outside. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable. Service was wonderful. Food was delicious! It was hard to choose as there were so many creative items. Our group of four enjoyed the pear and goat cheese salad as well as the petite meatballs. The gnocchi, ravioli, risotto and scallops were also exceptional!

The March menu is fabulous! We especially loved the risotto dish - which was so light and flavorful - and the scallop dish. Can't wait to go back.

While the service was incredible and the space itself is very welcoming, the food is all sweetened. Every single savory dish was sweetened. I consider that a very low-brow way of making food taste good, and I got sick to my stomach afterwards! Wish the chef would rise to the level of this beautiful restaurant. Our waiter was awesome, and the manager came by and said hi, and she was lovely as well. It was a terrifically pleasant experience except for the actual eating part.

Everything from the ambiance to the food and the cocktails is great here. It’s our favorite place to eat in the city for special occasions or when entertaining guests from out of town. I think we’ve dined here 4-5 times over the past couple years (we live out in the suburbs and otherwise would come more often), and have yet to be disappointed by a menu item or the experience in general.

While the restaurant was a little noisy (and for us old folks, a little dark), the food and service and surroundings were extraordinary. The food selection was incredibly creative (making it very hard to choose) and everything we ordered was very delicious. The service was on the same level...the server very knowledgeable, friendly and patient...the changes in table setting between courses unobtrusive...the timing flawless, neither too fast nor too slow. It was a magnificent evening.

Talula’s Garden is a well oiled machine. Service and waitstaff was super attentive, the food was outstanding and each and every dish was memorable. The mood and feel of the space with the noise level doesn’t lend itself to lingering over a meal but we won’t let that stop us from coming back on our next visit to Philadelphia

Talula's Garden is my favorite special occasion place by far! We celebrated my birthday there this past Sunday and were delighted with the superb, creative, fresh dishes (I had the duck!) The service was impeccable and they were so lovely as to gift me a glass of Cava and create a beautiful birthday treat for me as well. Brian, our host and manager was friendly and lovely to chat with as I waited for the rest of my party to arrive! Lyndsey, one of the 2 wonderful bartenders (I unfortunately didn't get his name :( )
made a killer martini for my husband.

Excellent service and attention to detail. Did not give food 5 stars as the main courses were too salty and the plantain chips inedible (I think the cook forgot he had already added salt once). Other than that, a lovely evening and an enjoyable dining experience.

Talula's is culinary heaven. Every time we're in Philly, we spend an evening there. This time, it was Friday during Lent and we had meatless dishes. I've rarely had anything as delicious as the goat cheese gnocci, and the sea bass was wonderful as well.

We really recommend it, and in the warmer months, the outdoor garden is a delight. It's costly, but let's keep it in perspective: it's less than you would spend at a steak house, and the food is EVER so much better, not to mention the spot-on service. Indulge yourself!

A delightful surprise. I usually love sitting in the large dining room. But on Friday night, the noise level was high. My voice volume is weak. I asked to move to a quieter table. To my delight, we were seated at a small table to the side of the bar. No one was to our right or left. It was ideal, until the bar started to get crowded with waiting guests. By then, we were about done our meal, and my companion and I had our great conversation.

The other delightful surprise was the wine list, which was back to its usual high quality. Not only were whites and reds from Willamette Valley Oregon back on the wine list. I found a wonderful Rose champagne to celebrate this occasion. We both thoroughly enjoyed the champagne, which was reasonably priced. Champagne goes with everything.

We started off with a delicious amuse bouche the kitchen sent as a gift. It was wonderful. My companion loved the brioche rolls so much, he asked for more. We shared the little vegetable dish of Thai spiced delicate Squash as an appetizer. The seasonings were amazing. We each had fab pasta dishes: Braised lamb Pappardelle and Pumpkin Risotto. We shared since each was so delicious. For dessert, we ended with these sugary baby donuts which reminded us of beignets in NOLA.

The great thing is that we left satisfied but not stuffed. I compliment the sommelier for his wise wine choices, and the chef for using spice in such unusual ways. I will be back!

Melina was our server. She was great! Just the right amount of time passed in between courses. She was knowledgeable and kind and funny. Atmosphere was perfect and although the resturant was crowded, I could clearly hear my husband sitting across from him. He actually told me that was his favorite dining experience ever and we eat out quite a bit. So far, we've told everyone we've come in contact with that they must visit. We can't wait for our return visit!!!

Dear friend in from CT who enjoys dining in New York City. What better way to introduce Philadelphia’s scene to her than Talula’s. Special props to Danielle our server with a personality and sense of humor and always to Jackson behind the bar who knows how I like my Bombay Sapphire martinis. All good ... always a good memory.
