So even though we got there saying we had a lunch reservation the waiter failed to tell us that none of the main plates were being made at the moment because they were understaffed. Why didnt I receive a call ahead telling me that? Why wasnt I told when I got to the restaurant rather than only 30 minutes later when we had all picked our food. Total nonsense - not going back and wont reccommend.
Arrived on time for a 2.45 table booked on opentable to be told the restaurant has closed and no tables available downstairs. Pretty poor. We went elsewhere.
The food was great however service wasn't.
A few points to make:
- Staff seemed friendly but not very aware, our area was quiet but it was still difficult to get someone's attention for service
- I had to ask three times for water before it was brought to the table
- We ordered snacks to start but these arrived after our main dishes. I know that some restaurants bring the food out as it's prepared but this wasn't made clear (if it is the case at the Cavendish..?), even so olives and bread shouldn't take longer to serve than steak and fish and chips. The table next to us had a similar experience.
Overall a disappointing experience.
The Cavendish is a great place for drinks and food. Great service and super ambiance. Been a regular for the past 3 years
Lunch menu limited and it well advertised
The layout is really nice and we were out upstairs where there was no one which was great.
Ordered a nut roast and which was vegetables covered in cheese and nuts sprinkled around it. Also had to pay extra for a Yorkshire pudding, that’s always standard abc included as part of a roast.
Took the staff a very long time to remove the plates only because we told them.
Very average for the price you pay.
The service was excellent and the ambiance lovely. We were expecting better food as the taste was not fine, mainly fried plates, not that different that a typical British pub. Will return only for drinks.
Good place for relax dîners with friends, mixing the typical pub with continental Europe menu
Been here several times before and normally would rate this as 4 or 5 star, but the service let it down this time.
Still a great vibe, great location... the service was a little off this time so marking it down. Hope it was a one off, as its one of the nicer spots
What a great dining experience. And with cricket on the screens.
Sadly they have changed the dining floor upstairs and it has lost it cosy elegant atmosphere and too noisy
The food was delicious, beautifully presented. I'm from Eastbourne so I found it a little expensive but it probably isn't for London. The staff were wonderful. Would definately recommend

The Food was awesome...the staff every helpful and accommodating...we would definitely go back!
Lovely atmosphere, pricing typical for London. Service lacked warmth, no real smiles or explanations and once upstairs for food had to wait for someone to appear every now and then. Menu lacked vegetables or salads.
Shambolic. Booked a table for 4, based on pictures and the menu on website. (pictures show a casual 'sit down' restaurant) However when we arrived we were told there were no tables, as such, and were shown to a couch with a small coffee table in the upstairs area. We were told that they were trialling a 'new concept' and were in the middle of a 'soft opening' which turned out to be euphemism for 'they don't know what they're doing'. (we were shown to a small table later on when a large group left). We were handed drinks and food menus and I ordered a pint of Moretti from the menu only to be told that they could only serve pints downstairs in the bar area and that upstairs they would only serve beers in bottles. I went downstairs, ordered a pint, to be told I would have to drink it downstairs as it was 'two separate concepts', -- But it was one establishment as they were able to bill my drink to my table upstairs. We ordered 4 burgers - one to be served medium/well without cheese. Not overly complex. Four medium/rare cheeseburgers arrived surrounded by cold chips with the staff no idea how to rectify the problem -- so they didn't. As we were the only customers that had ordered food this doesn't augur well once the 'soft opening' period is over. We eat quickly and even paid the service charge just to secure a fast exit, plus we had no confidence they would know how to deduct the charge from our bill. Staff were very nicely turned out but that was about the only positive aspect of our visit. If you view this establishment as a bar - its fine. If you view it as somewhere to have food (not even a full blown meal) -- as per its website - then the good news is there are plenty of other options in the Marylebone area.
Good Afternoon Bryan, We are truly sorry you had such a negative visit, this is definitely not up to our standard. We thank you for your feedback as we work hard on always bettering ourselves to assure the best experience possible to everyone. With that being said, we would greatly appreciate if you could email email@example.com in order to discuss your visit further in detail and hopefully change your perspective. This is my new favorite place for lunch and dinner when visiting London. Service was excellent at lunch and at least adequate at dinner. The menu is simple, but presentation, textures and flavors were delightful. Recommend.
In the heart of Marylebone, cosy, classy, intimate, with appetising Brasserie dishes.
A very good dinner with interesting food. A bit too noisy, but it is Xmas party season! Good wines and cocktails too. I will go back.
Would recommend for drinks but food is disappointing.
Unfortunately the charmless staff and poor service let this restaurant down. We were ignored and neglected, not offered menus or dessert. The bill came to just under £100 for only 2 main courses and 3 glasses if wine. The food was ordinary and the fish dish very undercooked. By 10pm the staff were squabbling and rearranging tables around us for the nect Day! Although we were impressed by the decor and furnishings and the bar downstairs looks great.
Had drinks here a number of times good draft beers and a great selection of gin, cocktails and wine. The service is excellent and having now eaten upstairs for the first time can say the food here is very, very good too. Would recommend this place to anyone for almost any occasion.
Very disappointing. Our party of 4 were sole diners until very much later and this affected the ambience. Staff were very nice and service good but the food was definitely not worth the cost. I clearly made the wrong choices in smoked burrata (it doesn't work!) and my lamb skewer, ordered as medium, was barely cooked and could best be described as flabby! My companions said the fish was well cooked but lacking flavour and the dish not seasoned well. None of this matched the lovely lunch I had a couple of weeks previously. Clearly not the venue for an early week evening. We did not however let it spoil our evening, just disappointed.
Food was very good as was the service and surroundings. However, the menu posted on Open Table is incorrect.
Enjoyed a very pleasant dinner at The Cavendish with my wife. Really great food and service. Highly recommended.
The food was good and our table outside was really nice.
The service is very sloppy and slow though.
We went for brunch on a Sunday for my birthday, it was ok- but for the price not so impressive and some of the food came out cold. Friendly staff though and perhaps a better place for lunch ....?
Friendly and attentive service without it being over the top. Great food and drink and a relaxed atmosphere
Very poor quality food, oily pasta, chicken very ordinary.
Given the quality of reviews overall and the price paid, I felt the dishes were lacking in quality and substance and not presented particularly well, a bit slap-dash, but tasted OK. The wine was very good - we had the Mahi Malborough Sauvignon Blanc and I can't fault the staff.
This was very much a pleasant surprise. We were a tick late and not even had they held the table but they had held one inside and one outside so that we could chose. Chose outside, and they had even arranged sunshine. Great staff and the food was excellent. Will definitely be back.
We ordered the chicken and it was very basic and average. The service was fantastic though. A great place for a drink.
Excellent as always. Super service.
A bit pricey but worth it.
Always visit it to meet up with friends.
Excellent value, great service , what more can anybody ask for.
The first waiter mor was a real professional but a guy came in to wait the main room while he did a private party and it went downhill. This guy clearly didn’t want to be told what to do by the professional and was lazy. One drink tasted terrible and the second food order too forever.
Food was tasteless.maorry! I wanted to love it! Would only return for a drink in the bar.
For what we paid the meal was certainly not worth it. The food came cold and had to be reheated, in addition the venue appeared to be understaffed with bathrooms in a mess and a lack attention to service.
The food when it did arrive hot was fine but not the best of nights for a venue of this reputation.
It was awful! Booked cCavendish as it had rave reviews and wanted to try somewhere different in Marylebone!! Never been more disappointed in a restaurant experience!! And the food was awful and expensive!!!! No atmosphere and virtually no one in there!!!
Disappointed beyond belief!!!
Overall good dinner and service. Had Christmas menu here.
Had a very disappointing experience with this restaurant. Having booked over 10 days ago for a girly catch-up meal here (6 people), I was really unhappy with the overall service and experience in this restaurant. We were sat upstairs, at our booking time of 3.15. There was a stag party, and another large party also seated upstairs - as a result it took an age to get both food and drinks orders. The food was average (and in many cases cold) at best, but it took that long we didnt dare request again. I was then informed we needed to clear the table for 5pm as the whole floor had been booked for an event - no mention at booking, though was firmly told someone had tried to call me that afternoon. Missed call (only the one), from a London number but no message. They were not apologetic, or in anyway accepting that they were at fault......my friends and I escaped and enjoyed much nicer drinks up the road. Do yourselves a favour and go with one of the other restaurants in this area!
