What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation
8.2

The Clocktower in the Edition Hotel is a Flatiron facsimile of a popular restaurant in London. And it works here just as well as it works over there.

Ratings 8.0-8.5:The best way to think about restaurants in the low to mid 8′s is that these are the places you would absolutely go back to, anytime. These restaurants are ones that you want to bring a friend to, just so they can also experience the duck carnitas, or burger, or whatever dish the place is known for.

The food was solid but unremarkable considering the prices. The twenty minute wait with a reservation was troublesome. The noise level because of the hard surfaces was difficult. One end of the table of six could not hear people seated two seats away.

The menu is very heavy and over priced for what it is. We ordered wine by the glass and they were very chinsy with the pour.

Disgusting. They had a piece plastic in niece's food. Undercooked pork. The most unbelievably bad dinner I've ever had. They should be embarrassed

The service was ok. The waiter did not explain the meals that well.

My 2 friends had the dover sole, it was so small and tasted so fishy. Like it was frozen fish stick

I had the duck, it was like chewing raw, tough, fatty meat. Horrible!

The prices were ridiculous for this quality and quantity. I don’t mind paying for a great meal but this was un acceptable.

This is my 4th time dinning with them and have booked 2 corporate events in the past. All amazing experiences
I can’t believe this is the same restaurant. Did they change chef or management?

We Will not be returning .

Food was very good, service was great. The only issue that I had with the Resturant was their wine list.
They have as many as 500 different wines however the average price of the wine is about $350.00.
Only few wines are in price range of $80.00.....

Really nice experience from the entertainingly and appropriately droll Australian hostess to a great bar with an incredibly well informed and yet non condescending waitress to a good dining room team, service is very well done without being over the top. The pool room was a very pleasant distraction and the food was very, very good. Only complaint is that the wine list is disproportionately overpriced even if remarkably broad.

Bad experience! Bread was given to me after first ate out and when I ask can I have more bread they said 3 dollars for 2 pcs! I had ate in many restaurants and this is the first time the restaurant charged me bread cost!
And when I paid cash including 20% tips they even didn’t say thanks. This is the last time I’ve been here. And don’t recommend to anyone

A lovely room up a long winding staircase. Look to your left upon entering and you will find an elevator. There are several beautifully designed room..quite "clubby" in a Bristishy way. It is also very comfortable.
Service was excellent and the food was well prepared. I ordered coffee with the meal as it was an early lunch. As coffee is served in cup and saucer, it empties upon a few sips.
Although the managers, waiters, and bus people passed by frequently (I was at a table near the aisle) their cursory glances missed the empty cup too frequently. When I did ask for a refill, it took quite awhile. I suggest they take note of single diners especially as we do enjoy our coffee.
A small favor to ask and I look forward to my next visit at the restaurant.

We went for lunch during restaurant week so prices were lower and the choices limited. What we had was very good. At other times it would be expensive but worth it if that isn't a problem. The dining rooms resemble an old world club.

Dining room was pleasant with interesting pictures on the wall. However the food was no more than
satisfactory. The roasted cod was not done too well or tasty. The appetizer of soup was microscopic.
The tea was brewed and the leaves were unsettled. A strainer had been placed on the table at the end.
Neither of us saw it until after we'd poured the tea with the floating leaves. It should have been started by the waiter or at least pointed out to us.

I wanted to spend a day with my 22 year old daughter and thought the Clock Tower would be an awesome experience due to her British roots. This past Tuesday we got there as your last guest for the early afternoon, was about 1 minutes late, traffic from New Jersey. What I found was an ABSOLUTE, unwelcoming attitude.

We were seated and I delayed going to the bathroom because I did not want to miss the waiter. We sat for over 10 minutes with no one offering anythng except ask us if we wanted anything from the wine list. I finally got up and went to the bathroom and then I complained to the receptionist, this was 15 minutes later. It would have been nice for the waiter to explain the menu, how it works, what’s included in the restaurant week, etc. I was simply annoyed, the ambience was lost in this lack luster treatment. Did not enjoy the food, my daughter’s Shepard’s pie was luke warm, she was hungry so she ate it. Fish and chips was greasy on top, you could see the oil, I have had better. Your manager tried to make up, but the essence was already lost.

The trip, toll, lackluster service was lost in the attitude of your staff. I could come up with a lot of excuse of this disservice. We had dinner at another restaurant the week before and we felt like family, we were treated like family. People’s attitude depicts how you’ll be treated.

Our last 3 times there since they changed the menu, we have been unhappy with the food. Its just not the same, the bread which is always amazing was not hot and the butter has changed for the negative, the Filet which is always amazing has not been great the last two times with the new presentation. The potatoes au gratin were not hot and had congealed, the french fries were actually stuck together. However the service was amazing as usual. The problem has been a change from the kitchen not from the service.

Overall our experience was a good one. We started off with a drink at the bar. I enjoyed one of their cocktail specialties which was fantastic. I would go back just to have drinks at the bar. Our dining experience was good, just a little disappointed that we ended up having to ask for bread to be served. We had already received our appetizer, but no bread. We would have preferred to have the bread prior to the appetizers as it should have been served. The food is amazing and I will definitely be back.

I was looking forward to having a restaurant week lunch at The Clocktower, since it was my first time there. The three good sized dining rooms and a billiard room were stately, with dark wood and photographs up to the ceiling. Kind of old world stuffy. The staff to a person were professional, helpful and warm. After being seated, the waiter assumed we were there for restaurant week, which surprised me, when he asked as he handed us that particular menu.

We had butternut squash soup, which was very tasty, with a few nuggets of vegetables in the center of the bowl before the soup was poured in. The portion was suitable for a Barbie doll, and not a hungry one at that. So although good, it left me wanting more. The second course was a parmesan cheese/mushroom risotto. It was nothing special, but again, not enough to feel like I've eaten a meal. The bread, which we ordered twice just to have more to eat, was the perfect roll. Served warm with a just right crunch in the crust, served with softened butter in the pleasing form of an elongated rectangle. The desert was indeed the worst part of the meal. Cake with ginger ice cream. The ice cream was delicious however the cake was, uh, weird. It had a peculiar taste and texture.

Maybe this restaurant gives smaller portions for restaurant week. If that was it, they make a bad mistake. I for one try out restaurants to return again if I like them. I won't be back.

Stunning club-like setting with beautiful wood paneled walls, fireplace, fascinating photographs , great playlist and very sophisticated vibe. Perfect for a midwinter lunch. Food is very elegant and absolutely delicious--had marinated whitetail as an appetizer and broiled cod as an entree with a divine cognac soufflé's for dessert. The bread alone is worth the trip--small loaves of warm and crusty sourdough bread with a home made butter.

We enjoy fine dining when we travel, and decided to try the more British of Continental cuisine. Clocktower must have a great reputation judging by the crowd there on a week night. We enjoyed great cocktails at the bar, then a wonderful, perfectly timed and absolutely delightful dinner in the dining room. A wonderful experience!! We enthusiastically recommend it to New Yorkers and visitors alike!!
