Nestled in the heart of Morden The Cock and Bottle is steeped in tradition. Parts of the pub date back some 400 years, we offer all the charms of an olde-worlde Dorset village inn. Our reputation is enhanced by being named regional winners for the best food pub for the last three years by Hall & Woodhouse.

The Cock and Bottle is one of the best places around to enjoy hearty food at its best. John, the chef is renowned for his cuisine and has worked tirelessly to produce a menu that caters for all tastes. His ever changing menu reflects the fresh game and fish available each day, and covers everything from lamb shank to steak and kidney suet pudding, rabbit pie to chicken curry, which is made to John's own recipe. For fish lovers there are a number of dishes, including sea-bass, haddock, salmon and skate wing. To finish off why not try one of our homemade desserts. The pub also offers an extensive and varied range of real ales and wines.

We are dog friendly but booking is essential.

Very welcoming as we walked in,taken to the table straight away ,
The food was excellent,I had read reviews about the steak and kidney pudding,my wife and I ordered it no problems changing the potatoes to chips
The steak puddings exceeded the reviews I read
My two friends said it was one of the best meals that they have for sometime
I have not visited the cock and bottle for some 40 years it will be that long before we visit again
Many thanks for a lovely meal and the house Shiraz was good

We 5 booked well in advance. Ambience was shaken slightly by being told gruffly on entry what dishes were not available...but quickly improved and the service was excellent. Sea bass and lamb shank were excellent and steak was done exactly as requested and accompanied by a strong pepper sauce which complimented it well.
We tried 5 different desserts which all met with approval. One draught beer appeared rather flat but it was quickly replaced by an alternative...and the Guinness was perfect.

We have visited the Cock & Bottle several times recently and on each occasion we have been hugely impressed with the standard of the cuisine and service. The menu is extensive and we have never been disappointed with any of our choices. Personal favourites are the delicious Steak & Kidney Suet Pudding and recent specials Venison Wellington, Rabbit Pie and Dutch Apple Tart. By far the best pub grub we’ve ever tasted and consistently excellent, friendly, service. Thank you Cock & Bottle Team! Petereater

Good pub and meal, an enjoyable lunch meeting up with old friends. Manager kindly served our coffees despite us already being 20 minutes beyond closing time and the only people left in the pub!

We love the Cock and Bottle, but after deciding to welcome a dog into our lives we thought it was no longer an option. Wrong- we found out it was dog friendly and booked a table. We couldn’t sit in the main part but we totally understood that, we were given a lovely table at the far end under a window and we were really happy with that
We were greeted and our beautiful 17 month old Labrador Megan was made a fuss of which was lovely.
As always the food and the service was excellent, as we are weekend visitors to Dorset we can’t go there as often as we would like. But we cannot wait for our next visit and can highly recommend this beautiful pub with its friendly staff and delicious food.

The food was nice but the presentation wasn’t anywhere near as nice as the last time we went.

Excellent service, friendly and accommodating. Very help regarding my granddaughters dietary requirements. We were a little late as we had misjudged our journey time but this seemed to be no bother at all.
I found my food most enjoyable.
I always enjoy visiting this pub.

We did not get a warm welcome and the restaurant was very Spartan. Ordered a crab salad but very little white crab meat with a lot of salad to over compensate. Our other meal Pork belly was ok but the potatoe cake was very bland. No table decoration or atmosphere in the area we ate. Sadly not our best experience of a recommended place to eat.

The more I eat out, I have realised, the higher my expectations have become. On this visit the Cock and Bottle did not disappoint. The service was attentive and considerate. Cleanliness in line with Covid recommendations. Service of the food was slower than usual because they were a little short staffed but this was explained to us when we placed our order so it was not a problem. As we had invited friends, we were able to chat away while we waited for our food. All four of us were pleased with our meal. The wholesome meat pie and the haddock risotto were appreciated by our friends. I enjoyed a nice piece of plaice and my husband had the pork medallions. The desserts were yummy, an amazing creme brûlée and a very nicely presented summer pudding. Ticked all the boxes. See you again soon.

called here on Sunday 15th August, had the mushrooms in blue cheese and scallops as starters both were excellent.
One of us had the crab which was great and the other had the roast which was not as hot as I would normally like but never the less very tasty, and not worth sending back. (the only reason for taking off one star)

Smashing place for a family dinner. Three generations of family, all very happily fed, from picky teenaged step daughter to even pickier elderly northern in-laws who usually regard anything other than meat and two veg with grave suspicion.

I can vouch for the excellence of the steak and kidney pudding and the house Shiraz was delicious.

Stepdaughter reported that her rare burger was fantastic and the in-laws devoured their lamb shanks with even rarer enthusiasm.

Between us we also gave the puddings a pretty thorough examination and we can recommend all of them. But the summer pudding was my favourite. Probably.
