The staff were very friendly, the atmosphere was beautiful but the food was less than impressive. Service was very slow for a night with few diners. Think there a better options in Baltimore for a night out.
Best restaurant in Baltimore. Great for any occasion. The Elephant never disappoints. Have an awesome experience EVERY time!!
The food, the service, and the atmosphere were all quite impressive. Personable and attentive, this was a favorite meal.
Wonderful ambience, exquisite cuisine, and respectable staff! I truly enjoyed my dining experience!
I have waited two years to get to The Elephant and it was worth the wait! The service was excellent and personal and the food by Chef Mallory was superb. I highly recommend this restaurant for an enjoyable, relaxing evening!
The Elephant truly is one of the most delightful and charming foodie experiences in Baltimore. For one, you feel like you're in a museum with Tiffany Glass and original wood carvings and brass sconces from India. Restaurant co-owner Steve Rivalis is always gracious. Food is inventive and delicious. We would bring any of our friends here. Experience? A magical 10 stars out of 5. Thank you, Elephant.
Beautiful restaurant with excellent food and wonderful service
The Elephant is our favorite place in the Mt. Vernon area. Food is always superb, and the historic charm is unparalleled.
The owners. Steve and Mallory, go above and beyond to make sure you have a great experience.
It was ok. The food was decent but not particularly interesting. Pretty eclectic menu without thematic consistency. Some things were good. Some were quite awful. So, uneven.
It was sad alot of items they were out of and they had only been open for 1 hour. The good was great however small portions for the price. The waitress was sociable and nice however everything moving very slow. I loved to eat by the window and I like the eclectic amd diverse feel.
Service moved at a glacial pace. No host at the host stand. Food was mediocre and forgettable. At the table next to us the people who came after we had ordered received their food long before we received our appetizers. The building was very beautiful though.
We have loved this location for a long time and it is great that it is back. The menu was a little different that what we expected and the food was OK. We will go back and will definitely get friends to go on Thursday night for Jazz!
Nice atmosphere and the wait service was very nice. Kitchen seemed a bit slow. Glad to here they are not closing.
Very nice and interesting. Nice street views, food and decor.
We were doted on and entertained all nite. The food and drinks were excellent. The decor and structure of the building are magnificent. We were given a tour and it was well worth it. There are many dining options here including a chef’s table to an inviting upstairs bar and billiards room. This restaurant has something for everyone. It is a diamond in the ruff! Thanks to Hope, Steve, Mallory, Sam and Jacob (the card magician!) for a truly memorable night.
Service was great, love the setting and story. I wasn’t thrilled with the food, it just wasn’t as interesting as I expected. Loved the magician!
Great food and great service! It was a very romantic place to celebrate an anniversary too. The interior is stunning and gorgeous. It is a little expensive but this is fine dining. It is okay to splurge every so often. The staff were great and made us feel special for our event. The food was fantastic. Diverse and unique menu and very veg friendly. Their menu does differ than the online menu just fyi. But definitely recommend! 5/5
Excellent food, service and ... well, I never expected to be able to play a few racks of after-dinner billiards in an upstairs room, off of the top floor bar, as interesting architecturally as the rest of the restaurant. My niece and I had an incredibly great experience at The Elephant, at least until my niece ran the table on me...
Service was warm, casual, attentive. Stopped in for quick bite this time, mainly dessert and drinks after a busy weekend. Out of the lovely fresh juice blends menu, but will give them a pass on that one this time. On my prior visit, we enjoyed a table full of small bites ( ordered many of them ) , well- executed and innovative cocktails, and delicious, whimsical and fun S'mores ( homemade shortbread, spiced chocolate and pillow-y fresh marshmallows). Came back for the S'mores specifically and tried a few other items as well. Definitely a fan.
Steak came prepared incorrectly. Ordered it “rare” and came “medium well “.
The carbonara was the best I've had since Rome (truly homemade) and the dumplings were ridiculously delicious. The wait staff was friendly, attentive, and actually a lot of fun (we loved Hope). Steven, one of the owners was right there in the trenches with the servers, making sure every diner was having a 5 star experience. The is the best of Baltimore.
Food and service was excellent. If you book and have an event to attend after please give yourself 2+ hours for dining.
This was a great official last night for The Elephant, at least for now. The staff and owners rose to the occasion. Sad to see it go just when it was hitting its stride. The Building and Sacha's are open. Food, service, and the beautifjl building all came together for a wonderful time.
A live and lovely crowd. Interesting people, extraordinary environment; overall a wonderful dining experience.
The food was wonderful and presented very artfully presented . Our waitress was outstanding I didn't catch her name. But we left a very generous tip.
We need the Elephant in Baltimore! We hope the current closure will be temporary!
Love this restaurant, so sorry it is closing.
What a gem this restaurant is - the food and the historic building could not be better, the service is incredibly personal. Here is hoping that something can be worked out (like a loan or a new agreement with the investors) that will reopen the doors of this important Baltimore institution.
Fantastic food really sad that we only just had our first visit! Everything we had was fantastic but the samoas were the best.
I am going to miss this venue terribly. Such a shame to see it go.
We had a really lovely time at this restaurant. Great attentiveness by the wait staff and a visit from the manager/owner (?) made us feel very taken care of. It’s a little too pricey to frequent super often, but for a special occasion it’s really a wonderful dining experience.
Wonderful place, great food, and cool location. Would highly recommend.
Haven't been to this restaurant since about 35 years ago! It is still so beautiful.. Although I wish they hadn't painted the bar area upstairs black. It detracts from the ornate walls and makes it look odd. I also did not like the director's chairs at the bar or the painting of bar specials on the mirrors behind the bar. This area would be better suited to straight up classical beauty rather than a low down bar like area. There is nothing low down about this exquisite building. Why not keep the walls a classic white paint replete with classic furnishings?
As far as the restaurant goes it was ok. I mean, it was good enough but not amazing. My husband enjoyed his more - but he had more options bc I am gluten free and there were not many options for that. Our waitress, however, was great and very personable. And the price was reasonable. This building is a piece of living history and I am glad its still around and has not been split up into apartments. However, I think it could look even better and the food could be better too. But that would take quite an investment.
Before the BSO concert- perfect!
Our food was excellent, but don't come here hungry unless you want to spend a bundle and a half. The helpings are small, which is fine; we did not leave stuffed. However, the prices are inappropriate for the size of the helpings.
We ate here early prior to a show at the Lyric - the building itself is beautiful - staff was very attentive while not hovering - turns out that our server, Hope, was the one who had called me to confirm we were coming - when she came to our table she remembered that I'd told her over the phone about our time issue - so props there - she also was very helpful in suggesting half-portions when she thought that was appropriate for the whole meal - the restaurant got a bit busy after we'd started eating, and yet she came right by when two in our party had gotten their meals and the others had not - made sure that was rectified.
Food was delicious - the richer items come in half-portions if you like - Hope explained every dish but not in a pretentious way - of course we had dessert - all portion sizes were very appropriate.
We would def go back.
Returned to the Brass Elephant (now just Elephant) 25 years after holding our wedding reception there. All of the beautiful carved wood is still there, and the food is wonderful.
Roddy and Anthony worked their magic as usual in the kitchen , service excellence by Lexi and owners presence and engagement made for another great dining experience at The Elephant.
Such a classy atmosphere great service! And the bang bang shrimp is a must have! I will definitely be back!
