Welcome to Freemasons at Wiswell, where fabulous food is served in an elegant and relaxed rural setting. The inn is located in the 'chocolate box' village of Wiswell, near Clitheroe, in the picturesque Ribble Valley. Since our transformation and reopening in the summer of 2009, we have created a loyal clientele and a genuine home-from-home atmosphere. Flag stone floors, walls in muted heritage colours, antique rugs and furniture, period paintings and prints all unite to create a stylish and comfortable setting. Our bar has an excellent selection of traditional cask conditioned ales from award-winning independent breweries and is complemented by a superb cellar with over 250 wines from around the world. While the surroundings and welcome are inviting, the main reason to visit is, of course, our food. Chef/patron Steven Smith has created a unique and diverse menu that perfectly matches the style and atmosphere, and we will be delighted to welcome you for a true gastronomic experience.

The venue is a quaint quintessentially English building but tastefully decorated and very warm inside. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The service was excellent, if a little slow between courses. The food was absolutely faultless; the tastes were just perfect. We’ve already decided to return.

After following the recent recommendation/review in Decembers edition of The Field, we made a detour on a trip up through Lancashire (from Cheshire) to visit the Freemasons at Wiswell, for a spot of lunch. We were absolutely delighted by the standards of service and the quality of the delicious food. We now intend to make this a destination (as opposed to a detour) for a longer visit in the New Year.

Beautiful table and setting. Waiting on staff and service excellent. Food, as always, excellent. One or two things were a bit on the warm side only, but I do like my food hot. Only thing not quite right, was I felt a little bit cold, in the dining room. But it was a very cold night also. But it didn’t spoil the occasion, we like to dress up for such a lovely meal, highly recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed lunch yesterday at The Freemasons, I recommend the mushroom soup, oh to die for, along with everything else a lovely lunch. The parking is a problem for us now as my husband has difficulty walking far, especially uphill, although it isn't far for me it is for him and could well be a problem in the future. I hate the thought of not eating at this special place, not sure if there is an alternative place to park, would be grateful to hear if there is.

It was just off the Main Street and easy to miss . Parking in the Main Street made things easier . We had a fantastic lunch , the food and service were first class. My only criticism is we were quite cold sat near the door . The flag floors don’t really help . Wear something warm if you visit this place in winter .

Stunning food, fantastic service and beautiful interiors. The only thing I would change is the music as in there was some being played and it wasnt really needed. Personal preference, however, and didnt change the amazing quality of everything else :)

Bang on form. Went for the lunch menu and it was spectacular. We got two each of the starters, mains and deserts… and all six were brilliant. Overall, quite a rich meal (especially when trying to polish off the amazing cauliflower cheese)… but definitely worth it.

Lovely, character gastro pub with high quality imaginative food offerings. Value for money was absolutely outstanding. The service was friendly and efficient. Two minor observations - the seasonal greens offering on the menu was unavailable which was inexplicable and a shame; the music being played was inappropriate for the setting and obtrusive. Having said that I would definitely visit again.

We had the chicken liver and the beef and the sticky toffee pudding. Everything was tasty but there was only 2 small pieces of beef for the price and the size I would have expected 4 pieces and the Chicken liver required more toast. The sticky toffee pudding was very good as were the service and decor.

Absolutely tremendous. From the moment we arrived everything was perfect. The good is outstanding, the care and thought that has gone into each dish is evident and it’s served with a smile. Any question we had for the waiting staff was answered competently and confidently. Just the perfect lunch.
