No oysters left. Volume wasn’t anticipated but it was Valentine’s Day and they were fully booked… Not sure how the volume wasn’t anticipated. I have worked in food for many years so I understand that it happens… But there weren’t many alternatives on the menu. The waitress said that they had to get rid of a lot of items due to the pandemic which left us having a hard time choosing what to eat.
The layout was unusual compared to my other COVID dining experiences. The tables were spread out, five tables to a whole room. It was not intimate dinting but rather exposed. This place could be a good spot for younger people in the Allston area but not me and my boyfriend.
This place is always outstanding.
Food and service was great. Felt very Covid safe!
Incredible food and a lovely atmosphere. Hidden gem.
Delicious food
Hidden gem in Allston that I wish I knew about sooner! Great service, food, and beer selection.
First time here - had heard so many great things about it, the main thing being the neighborhood feel. The menu was great; eclectic with some classic dishes. I got the curry dish with vegetarian 'meatballs' - unbelievable! A huge plus that they have oysters as well, and a variety of vegetable options. Sad that they don't have cocktails, BUT, the wine was great, too, and the ambiance and food made me forget about that huge thing that I usually look for when going on a date night. Can't wait to come back!
Really great. Food and service - 10/10. Wine was honestly a 6/10. Overall 8/10. Can’t wait to come back!
The usual - great meal at a great price point. Tucked away off the beaten path, this place would be packed if it were in the Back Bay or S. End. I wish I could get over to Allston more often, as I would love to support this restaurant and see it continue operating and hopefully thrive.
My first visit, hopefully not my last. I chose because of it’s proximity to an event I was attending later in the evening and because I noticed in their online menu that they served Fuller’s London Pride. That sold me! It was a quiet evening, I was greeted promptly and service at the bar was excellent. My steak frites dinner was delicious and fairly priced. In all, a wonderful meal!
This place was a real surprise - we were looking for a reservation day of for a relatively large party and somehow they had room. The food was amazing - complex flavors, very fresh and delicious. The set up is great - room, with tables spaced enough apart and not too noisy. The location is a bit off the beaten path. Overall it's a real gem - we were very pleasantly surprised.
no fish in ceviche..food underwhelming.. nice bar staff
The beet small plate was really nice, as was the chicken confit sandwich. The sweet potato puffs were also extremely good. Great food!
Went for Valentine’s Day. Menu had plenty of variety and prices were not unreasonable. Oysters were a good size. Cheesecake was to die for - highly recommend it.
Food was ok, not much flavor.
What a wonderful restaurant. Food is inspired and the interior is beautifully renovated. You know someone’s heart and soul is in this place. The only thing that could be improved is parking. Wish I lived where a car wasn’t necessary.
Very nice looking pub....Had $1 oysters which were tasty....Mussels were prepared with a coconut sauce which had an unusual flavor but quite satisfying
The gnocchi with fig was yummy which I enjoyed with a lovely rioja
Our waitress, India, was efficient and professional.
Terrific spot
The food is outstanding and it is a very cozy ambiance.
This is a neighborhood gem. Rarely crowded but they take reservations. If you are an oyster lover, there are delicious $1 oysters from 5-7 pm. Also recommended are the steamed mussels (with extra bread for the broth), beet salad, mushroom ravioli, and baklava. The menu is broad as is the wine list. Highly recommended!
Always love coming to The Glenville Stops - hidden gem of Allston!
Nice local place with interesting menu, so a good change from pizza and other college-style restaurants around Comm Ave. Wait staff was terrific. Loved the gnocci, sweet potato parmesean fritters, mussels and the burgers. Chicken was presented well, but dry. Great wine list. Thankfully the restaurant's website gave great suggestions for parking options, because that could be a challenge. Would definitely recommend to a friend and return in the future.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. The food is always delicious and the staff knowledgable about pairings and combinations. The beer and wine list is well curated. One of our party is an extremely picky eater, and the staff accommodated his needs easily and perfectly. I'll always be back for more.
We went on a Sunday night for a nice quiet dinner for my birthday. We asked to be seated in the back room, as the front room gets a little too loud for us (we're in our 50's!) The new back room is perfect, the tables aren't too close together, the lighting is subdued, and the music is turned down.
The food: excellent!! We got a dozen oysters to start, which are always fresh. These were from Duxbury, and were subtle - low minerality, very clean back taste, and beautifully refreshing. I paired them with the Haut Panguet Bordeaux Blanc, a nice complement to them.
I ordered the braised lamb shank. Let me start off by describing their perfect butchering techniques: the bone was frenched, and the fell, excess fat, and tendons cleanly removed. It was braised in a brown stock I believe.
What it wasn't: it was not stringy, it was not boiled, it was not cooked for too long, and it was not completely submerged while it simmered making it waterlogged. What it was: the meat didn't fall off the bone; it slid off of the bone in firm segments of the muscle fiber. It was slightly pink, and not overcooked. The end result was the best braised meat I have ever eaten!
The glace was rich but didn't overwhelm the lamb. Thank you Chef for not over-seasoning the sauce! It was served on pureed parsnips (sweet, creamy, and not mealy!) with grilled asparagus.
I want to thank everyone at the restaurant for being giving us such a delightful and delicious meal! We'll be back soon - looking forward to hearing the blues trio on Thursdays!
The food was excellent! The restaurant is quiet and would be a great place to go if you want to be able to talk during your dinner. The vibe is a little sleepy.
Food was superb and everyone was pleasant and helpful. A gem of a place! Nice wine list, too.
Great food for great value. Nice beer and wine selection
Friends’ birthday dinner
This is a great neighborhood restaurant. The food was really, really good. We had the Sweet Potato Parm Fritters, Scallops in Grilled Salsa, Gnocchi with Confit Duck, Steak Frittes and Petit Fillet Mignon. All were great. The standout by far was the Gnocchi. Nice atmosphere but a little loud. Nice service but they were busy and training someone so a little slow but nothing really to complain about. It was more loud that I thought it would be given the reviews. But none of these would keep me from coming back. The parking situation, though, is a bit of a challenge. We did find parking in front of Starbucks on Comm Ave. Which honestly wasn't a far walk. If I lived in the neighborhood or could take the T to The Glenville Stops, this would be a restaurant in a regular rotation for me. But since I'm car dependent it's a bit more of a challenge. Loved it though.
The Glenville Stops is a neighborhood gem -- beautifully appointed, under-attended, and phenomenal food. Tasty, creative, unique small plates and main dishes; an extensive wine list and plenty of beers to choose from. Hard to park nearby, but that might only help it remain our favorite secret place.
Fantastic local hidden gem. Very fair prices for great food and drink. Friendly good service! Very unusual. Highly recommended.
Outstanding neighborhood gem! Good food- variety of apps worked well, with well-priced wine. Will be back!
My favorite neighborhood spot! Great food, great service!
This is a great local spot for really satisfying appetizers and a wine list that is priced right. We tried the gnocchi, lamb meatballs, beef cigars, filet and mussels. The filet was delicious, moderate in size and priced well. The gnocchi with duck was our favorite appetizer and the lamb meatballs were a close second.
Great waitstaff, quiet atmosphere, awesome menu and very tasty food. We were impressed.
First time there. Celebrated our anniversary. Service and food were excellent and we were even treated to champagne!!! If you’re driving, leave time to find parking.
Great find while on vacation in Mass.
Close to where I was staying, I chose it because of it’s high Zagat ratings. Ambiance was nice with Tiffany style hanging lights. Food was very good . Asked for a wine recommendation and the extremely shy owner came over however his input was exceptional. Although very good service overall, since they have expensive wines ; I believe more training should be done to the staff in decanting and pouring without spilling.
Wonderful food, very affordable for the quality as well. Highly recommend for a date/evening out.
This out of the way place is a secret gem. We had a fantastic meal, lovely service and would absolutely return.
This place wins the flavor award. I can't think of a dining experience I have had recently where every dish was so innovative and pleasantly surprising in terms of taste/texture/presentation. Smoked carrots with lentil puree? Who does that?! So yummy! I am not a vegetarian, but I noticed that many of our favorites from that night were non-meat. We will be back and hope that this review and others like it don't ruin our ability to get a table!
Food was awesome at every level. Excellent drunken goat cheese, and roasted beet appetizers. The salmon was superb, but the lamb shank was brilliantly prepared and the best lamb shank I have ever had. Even the cappuccino was world class. I definitely have already raved about GS to several friends. Be prepared to walk from parking since it is scarce in the neighborhood, but we didn't mind. It was well worth it. Great find!!!
Will definitely be back. I have to experience that lamb shank again!
