The Grove Surbiton
Amazing service for local pub!
Always good service. Staff very attentive.good menu, fair prices. Enjoyable Sunday lunch.
lovely sunday roast! its fairly loud in this lace as its wood floor, wood tables and bare walls. but good wine and food!
The food is really great and the staff are lovely, but if you sit in the restaurant part the service is super slow. We’ve eaten in the restaurant a few times now and it’s always the same, so don’t go too hungry!
Daisy our waitress for the evening was great, fun and easy going and had us in hysterics a few times.
The food was great and will definitely come back!
Thanks guys 😊
Good food as ever, although they do sell out of items earlier than I’d expect. Very noisy clientele at the time we went.
The staff didn’t know about my booking and were not pleasant to my friends about it, one of whom was so upset that she didn’t want to stay. We ended up on a small table with stools in the darkest corner of the pub, which wasn’t helpful as we were there to do the quiz and to eat dinner - we struggled to see both! My meal was so late to come out that all of my friends had finished eating and had had their plates taken away before I started eating. I was told that my meal was in a queue, despite us all ordering together at the same time. When my meal did eventually come it wasn’t great, which is such a shame because the food is normally very good.
We will come back because we enjoy the quiz, it was just a shame that we had such a bad experience this week. If we weren’t regular customers and know how great this pub can be, we probably wouldn’t come back. Hopefully this was just a one off!
The roast was gorgeous. I had the vegan roast.. wow! The waitress was lovely aswell it was her 2nd shift and she was very helpful and friendly.
Will be back soon
Great food and service! Perfect place for a Sunday roast! The staff were amazing and helpful even during very busy time of the day
I’ve eaten at The Grove a number of times and it’s usually been okay for the money. I’m sorry to say the Sunday roasts we ordered were totally lacking in flavour. How anyone could produce such a large plate of bland food is quite astonishing.
Love this pub and food is always good but definitely not a place for a cheap pub meal! Great service and good selection on the menu.
Food was lovely, good service too. Fairly pricey though for a pub.
The woman who was serving us was extraordinary and very caring - the food was delicious!! Thank you, we had a great time!!
Great ambiance for meeting up with friends. Food was too salty - we ordered the flat iron chicken and the pan fried seabass and both were too salty that we couldn’t finish them. Our server was friendly in the beginning but turned rude toward the end when we were settling our bill. He looked & sounded visibly annoyed when he asked who would settle the remaining meals. Overall, ok as a place for drinks, although would not order food again.
Never had a bad meal here. Always great food and service.
Always enjoy our meals at The Grove, staff so helpful, food delicious. Sometimes a little noisy, when lots of families in there. But always and enjoyable experience. Eat there often.
The Grove and its various other names has been a local of ours for the past 30 years. However, last weekend was probably the worst experience ever, except for the new Manager trying her best to keep control of a situation of lack of staff and lack of food. Witnessing someone juggling more jobs than necessary for one person is very off putting and does not make for a relaxing evening out, food running out is also not very appealing. The Grove is usually well staffed and serves exceptional gastro pub food, it needs to get back to that.
Had a lovely Sunday roast. Dog was welcomed and fussed over, everyone very friendly. Food was quick, generous, and tasty and a high standard for a roast!
Will definitely come again.
Amazing service in the restaurant bit. Food was not great and and was a bit cold. I would come back because of the space and service but won’t have a burger again!
Fantastic outdoor area and food was generally very good. But seemed to be badly short staffed: long waits for drinks; got the mains order wrong; mains were ready at the same time as starters, but weren’t kept warm before they were nonetheless bought out 5 mins later.
I have never had a bad experience at the grove. The staff are always helpful and friendly, even if we were out of the way at a very quiet time, we were left alone but not totally forgotten. The food is always very good, and the beer offering seems to rotate just enough to be interesting. It's a great place for Sunday lunch and would recommend it to anyone.
Never been disappointed with a visit to The Grove. Staff are always so helpful. Food delicious and they always cater for my daughter who has dietary needs.
Ate in the restaurant as it was scorching outside. Jo, out waitress was outstanding from start to finish. Was rather busy but the staff we efficient and polite, especially Jo. Smoked Haddock, Steak & burgers all excellent, could do with some fans inside and some wasp control outside but that's only really an issue due to heatwave one week a year. Top visit and will certainly return. Many thanks
The Grove was great again. Sadly one of the orders got missed because our waiter was training and forgot but it was rectified speedily and discount offered. It didn’t detract from the meal at all. Thanks The Grove.
We called twice to request additional seats and got confirmation both times. Upon arrival we were told they couldn’t accommodate our larger party. After much discussion a table was sorted and we ended up eating 90 minutes later than planned which wasn’t good for the children.
Really lovely staff, who looked after us really well. Nothing was too much to ask and the food was really good.
A very disappointing evening. Starters arrived promptly but were only ok- nothing at all special. Over cooked. We waited for over an hour for the main dishes although we could see the pie ordered sitting under the hot lamps. The pie was burned with accompanying vegetables cold. The haddock was extremely salty and inedible and the sea bass was like leather. No vegetables were possible- they hade none in the kitchen.
The staff left the starter plates on our table for far too long. The staff were smiley and trying their best which was not really good enough.
All in all, I will not be returning in a hurry.
It was not the usual standard of service that we are used to. I think that they must have been under staffed on Friday even though it wasn’t busy in the dining room.
Initially we waited about 20 mins for our drinks. During the meal we ordered more water and more drinks and both times had to wait and remind regarding these. Our mains also took a long time. The staff didn’t really deal with this in the best manner, weren’t particularly apologetic, and we weren’t offered anything to compensate. Despite this I paid the full bill including service. We will try there again but will definitely not be rushing back.
Lovely traditional with modern twist pub, fantastic gardens and staff that are so very efficient, friendly and professional. I totally recommend a visit. It makes a nice change to be in an environment where staff shine with enthusiasm and friendliness. Perfect.
Friendly staff, nice pub/ambience. Not great food, not great service. Mix up with our order, mix up with the bill (we had someone else’s order added to ours), had to wait ages to sort it out and when we asked for a discount for the inconvenience we were told no! Obviously don’t value their customers.
Whilst we have eaten at the Grove on many occasions including Christmas, we felt on Sunday it wasn’t up to its usual standard. You may have had some new staff who where learning the ropes. However it won’t put us off returning, we will just hope for better things next time.
It's gone downhill massively since we went last time which was in March. They had issues with chefs not turning up on the day we visited and the fish and chips we ordered were literally dripping with oil, almost inedible, my mother-in-law and I left 70% of our food behind. When we complained we got our drinks taken off the bill which I didn't think was enough. Hardly any tables occupied. Not sure what's going on there it was soooo good before.
Lovely food and great decor! Will definitely come again
Waited 10 minutes for someone to see me - had to ask. Chicken was over cooked & the chips were worse than those at Macdonalds. Cost was £15.50. Very over priced for what was on offer. Decided not to try a dessert. Disappointing & the staff were not particularly welcoming & seemed preoccupied
Good solid Sunday roast and reasonable selection of real ales. Does get noisy in the dining area so sitting in the bar is better although that is a little shabby.
Excellent location, clean and well presented venue. Customer care excellent with attentive staff. Food and service very good. Highly recommended.
Several dishes had run out by the time we ate. We ordered a starter which arrived at the same time as our main course - there were only 2 other couples in the restaurant so not busy. We were fairly near the kitchen and could hear the staff bickering and complaining about being at work.
Not a great evening - not for the first time either. Won’t be going back to eat.
We going very often but this one was the first time for Sunday lunch as always we went for dinner few Fridays. Chicken Roast is very good, I have ordered the Quinoa butter squash Wellington and that not was the best, maybe they can improve this recipe. Desserts always nice and the service!
Tasteless food, slow service, completely under resourced, poorly ventilated so you end up smelling of cooking, and quite expensive for what was pretty run of the mill food. Overall the evening was a complete disaster - dont go near it!
Really lovely attentive service , the food was very good and i will certainly be back
