Four of us went to Toups Meatery on Sunday night. Waiter was very helpful as this was our first time there. We ordered the Charcuterie Board which was plenty for the 4 of us. We then ordered are entrees, which were 2 of the vension, hot fried quail and the lamb shoulder(shoulder being served instead of neck). All of enjoyed the entrees. Vension was very tender with good sauce. The fried quail was spicy, for us fine, but for other people maybe too spicy, and the lamb was very good also. We had 6 pm reservations, so waiter had some time to explain dishes and wasn't rushed as when restaurant got busy later.
Split the meatery board and crab claws. Both very good. Excellent service.
I loved it as I always do!!
Highly recommend, the food was excellent. Started with boudin balls, spicy pork rillettes and the sausage of the day for the table, everything was delicious. With the mains it was even better. The lambs neck was unbelievable and incredibly rich and flavorful. The seafood couvillion with the crab fat rice was spectacular and the Wagyu steak was excellent. This is a place you must try!
The blue crab were amazing! The greens on the boudin benne were incredible. Drinks were all tasty. A great Sunday brunch!
Amazing. Manhattan cocktail with sweat pork chunk instead of a cherry and for dinner a pork chop the size of my head. Great food, excellent service. I will be back!
Really wish I could rate Toups higher. Drinks were inventive, food was awesome, and our waiter was great. But miscommunication between the kitchen and front of house led to issues with course timing, and the corrections that the staff attempted missed the mark. We'd try it again, but at this point there are other places in the city we'd got to first.
I'm a huge fan, especially of the chicken confit.
There is a reason these guys have multiple James Beard Award nominations.
What a surprise fresh frog legs - delicious.
Great place to eat. We went for brunch and thoroughly enjoyed it
Outstanding menu with a good selection of matching wines. The charcuterie is a taste treat with wonderful variety. Great eats. Great value. Not to be missed.
Toups Meatery was phenomenal and the team did a great job anticipating all of our needs. We came in as a group of 5 for lunch and left stuffed. The sandwiches were delicious and the cracklins are to die for. Definitely worth making a stop on your list for authentic New Orleans eateries!
Brought a friend who never experienced fried Chitlins not Boudin balls. Food was delicious and the staff were so friendly.
She even got to meet the chef !!
We enjoyed our visit !!!
Amazing meal. The charcuterie board and bourbon list were especially awesome.
Deliciously reliable! Great food abe drinks! The service is terrific.
Went for brunch. Servers were excellent and very attentive. Drinks were inventive and tasty but food was just meh. Ordered waygu which was cooked properly but was still tough and tasted no better than a grocery store variant, accompaniments were average and the presentation was no better or worse than a home cook. Quail dish was much the same. Corn bread dessert was too dry and chocolate topping wasn’t tempered properly. Date dessert was ok but bacon wrap was soft, could have been left to cook until crunchy. Overall was disappointed with our visit.
Excellent food....only reason not 5 stars, kitchen slow & out of 2 of dishes we wanted. Overall great lunch!
Service was impeccable. Waiter was incredibly knowledgeable. Venison was the most amazing thing I’ve ever eaten. Lamb shank was incredibly tender. This is a “must eat here again” restaurant.
Food and drinks were good but service was incredibly slow and inattentive.
Amazing take on modern Cajun cuisine. Best cracklins I have ever had. 10/10
Food was excellent but service was slow. Our appetizers came out quickly but our entrees were delayed. In fact other diners, who had arrived after us, had finished their meals before our entrees were delivered. However, I would go back again and have already recommended the restaurant to friends.
Love Love Love Toups We have eaten here a few times and it is always great Chef Toups should have won Top Chef but he is always a winner with our family.Joni Dolhonde
Nice menu, good wine selection. Food was served promptly and was well prepared. We enjoyed Toups very much.
Toups Meatery is a neighborhood kind of place with city-wide appeal to folks who like meat (and seafood) and Cajun cookery. I recommend the Meatery Board, since it gives a broad survey of meats and condiments; the cracklins are also great, meaty and crisp after the fat has been rendered out.
The cookbook is well worth purchasing even if you never prepare a dish from it, as it gives a lot of background on the food in the restaurant and a lot of background on chef/owner Isaac Toups and Cajun culture.
We were looking for a spot with creative dishes, Toups fits the bill. Also, arrived early for our reservation & that was no problem being seated.
Awesome food! Always impresses my out of town friends!
$16 for an ice cold roast beef sandwich for lunch. Very disappointed. I didn’t know I have to pay for an overpriced subway sandwich. At least the glass of water was good.
Brought my boyfriend here for brunch on his birthday and I was pretty disappointed by our experience. My boyfriend and I are big fans of Chef Isaac Toups, we love his cooking videos and his cookbook is a staple in our home, so we were looking forward to eating at Toups Meatery for some time. The biggest disappointment was our service. Every time the server came to our table, he acted like he was bothered by our existence. As though we were inconveniencing him for ordering drinks and food at the restaurant. For the most part, the food was good. My boyfriend got the boudin benedict, and it was wonderful. I ordered the hot chicken biscuit. The biscuit was stale and chewy, but the chicken and housemade pickles had a nice flavor. Honestly, not sure if I would ever go back to the restaurant.
I've been to Toups countless times, as well as Toups South (RIP), and have never had a bad experience until this past weekend. Had been telling friends about how it is one of our regular spots and they had never been, so we decided to fix that. The appetizers and seafood entree were outstanding as always, but the service was both push and just awkward and friends both ordered dirty rice as entrees, but those tasted like a mound of salt. I only hope this was a one time thing.
Interesting menu, warm atmosphere, friendly knowledgeable and helpful staff. Wonderful Louisiana based food beautifully presented. Bravo!
This restaurant needs to work on their online presence. I was very excited about their menu on Open Table, Yelp, and their website. When we came in, we found out there were on their Winter 2020 menu and everything we were looking forward to wasn't on it. The few things that did carry over, like fried quail, had run out. The worst part was that out of our 4 person party, 1 person even had a fall 2019 menu. We ended up just getting the meat and cheese board.
It also took 25 minutes to be asked if we wanted drinks. Seemed like there was one server for the whole restaurant.
This was a bucket list place for me to go. I was not disappointed. The food and service was amazing. I wish I could have met chef Issac since he wasn’t there I wasn’t disappointed. The only issue was a large group that was there were very loud and had very vulgar in language. That still wasn’t enough to ruin my evening there. The meatery board was amazing. I really stepped out of my comfort zone with things I would never have ate. I was thankful I did. This place is top notch.
We had two wonderful brunches there in the last month or so. Great food, service, and drinks. On the second visit we had our four month old grandchild and the nearby table had two young children. In addition to great food and service, I'd give the restaurant five stars for being "kid friendly." Did i mention reasonable prices on bottomless mimosas and bloody marys? But the most important element is the food. I found the brunch menu to be eclectic and adventurous as well as having some good old comfort elements. The menu is nicely balanced and everything we tried was tasty and perfectly cooked.
Stopped in for my birthday weekend to have some of the lamb neck.
Salty salty salty the food here is entirely too salty! The seating on the hard window benches and cold metal chairs is very uncomfortable as well. The Boudin balls were like very tough meatballs with hardly any rice, very dense. I really want to like this place but just cannot get over the amount of salt they use in their food.
Delicious food. Loud though, so come with a festive spirit. The portions are large; order a course at a time to keep from getting too much in front of you.
