Had a reservation was 12 min late due to traffic. And then they put us on a wait list. Had to wait 25 min since we were a little tardy. Very loud place. Hard to have a conversation w a group.
Monica's Trattoria is like many North End Restaurants; small and noisy...this is to be expected. We had 7:30 reservations on a June Saturday night. Though extremely crowded the hostess went out of her way to make us comfortable and honor our reservations. We were seated by 7:30. The serving staff was friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious. I have eaten in many North End restaurants over the years and this was one of the finest entrees I have been served. We plan on returning in the fall when things will not be as hectic to enjoy another fabulous meal.
We had a perfect anniversary dinner here. I had noted “Anniversary” in the reservation and they placed us at a gorgeous table for two right in the window. The bruschetta had the most delicious heirloom tomatoes we had ever tasted, the Cabernet Sauvignon we drank was perfect, and we each loved our entrees. My partner got sweet potato gnocchi with sausage and broccoli rabe, and I ordered the chicken Marsala. Both were delicious and generous portion sizes. The service was quick but we didn’t feel rushed. We’ve now found our new special occasion spot!
The food was excellent and the service was very prompt
Overall experience was good. Busy Friday night. Restaurant is pretty loud (brick walls, hard floors; and open kitchen). Probably could have dials down the background music, though the playlist was good.
Good food. Kitchen was out of mussels so we had calamari and a coup of bruschetta options. For main plates we went for pasta options. Lobster fra diavolo lacked any bite (no diavolo), but otherwise good. Gnocchi spinaci and linguine al la vingole both very nice.
Service was generally attentive, perhaps a little too eager to clear plates as soon as the last bite was eaten.
Worth a visit.
Great food as always but was a little too noisy and packed but that’s also to be expected on a Friday. Was a little confusing as we had to request the same thing such as a bread a couple of times before it came to us.
Definitely worth it for the food but if your looking for the most personal service and a quiet place try to go there on less busy times than probably earlier in the evening.
Brought my wife to her favorite restaurant for her birthday- excellent as expected.
Very good food and service, nice selection of Italian fare - classics, but also some you don't see in every restaurant.
I'm never disappointed when dining at Monica's. Tonight I ordered teh squid ink fettuccine with scallops, leeks, and carrots in a light white cream sauce. It was delicious. Came with three jumbo sea scallops perfectly seared over a bed of house made fettuccine, the shaved carrots and baby leeks gave it just a little touch of additional flavor. I think it's my new favorite dish...
Loved this cute little place a little off the beaten path. Great food, super service!
Awesome wait staff!! Very personable and kind. Also the best Anti Pasto Plate in the North End
One of the best on Boston's North End. A must go restaurant. Any occasion will have a great night.
Unbelievable food! Service was exceptional. It's very crowded...it's that good....reservations are a MUST!
We had a 7:30pm reservation and didn't get seated until 8pm. It was like we didn't even have a reservation. The restaurant was super crowded and noisy. The food is good, my spaghetti carbonara had handmade pasta and you could really tell, but it wasn't worth the money we paid for the experience we had.
Everything was lovely. Nice meal in a quaint spot
A superb North End (Boston) Italian restaurant. Food incredibly wonderful, with a friendly, knowledgeable, all female wait staff. Very noisy, but expected in this venue. Highly recommended.
Great food and competent friendly service. Will definitely return.
Food was garbage. They also sat us by the bar and the trash was right there with the bucket they threw the filthy dishes in.
Been here numerous times, service was never this bad.
From the manager / owner getting his hands too busy with the hostess (no wonder she was in a mood) to the first waitress (thank God they sent another one) service was terrible. It's a shame because we love the food here.
The food is AMAZING. The service was phenomenal! I have been to just about every place in the North End and it is one of my few favorites. The menu is simple which I believe allows them to perfect each meal. I never thought I would say I enjoyed the bread & oil, but WOW!
Excellent meal. Jamie, our server was great! Will definitely return on next visit to Boston.
Very good service and decent food. Great for a group event!
The food was delicious and Pat was awesome! Great service! Very personable staff! Love love love this place!
Everything was delicious! From apps to deserts, amazing! Very friendly and warm atmosphere. Highly recommend!
The food was fantastic! We had reservations but they must have overbooked since we had to wait for quite some time to get seated, but, the food was phenomenal! We will definitely go back! Fabulous meal!
The food and atmosphere were top notch. We had one of our best meals in Boston ever!
Love this family owned business! Chef Franky makes the best pasta dishes and Pat takes good care of the customers on the floor.
The space could benefit from some acoustic absorption
Wonderful meal. Restaurant is too noisy.
Great food! Awesome location right before a Bruins game.
Service was very nice but food was just ok. Bruschetta was on bread that was a bit soggy but the flavors were good. Ravioli was very salty- almost like they made a mistake. The pollo Marsala was very tasty.
The food was very good. However we ordered an appetizer and dinner at the same time. We were still enjoying our appetizer when the dinner came out. A big pet peeve of mine. The table was also too small to accommodate the dinner appetizer and drinks for 2.
Go there for the amazing food - ignore everything else.
The food at Monica's is simply amazing. My wife and I were visiting Boston over the weekend from Atlanta, and ate here on Friday evening. We were so impressed, we immediately made reservations for Saturday night as well. Both nights, the food was perfect. The truffle "special" gnocchi was a spiritual experience. You will NOT be disappointed.
We have been coming to Monica’s for 17-18 years. I am saddened by our food and experience on Friday night April 26. We were deciding between 2 apps. The waitress was right there with us and saw the whole conversation. She brings us both and charged us for both. I ordered bucatini amatriciana. The bucatini was way undercooked for 25 bucks it was like chewing on red licorice. we sat at the counter that was our choice. It was at times fun and at times disgusting. The chef was constantly reaching in the food canisters and eating from them bare handed. He has a temper too. There was a guy at the front counter who had huge sums of money on him and was taking out of a fanny pack all the time. It made us wonder what he was up to. We cancelled our Sunday night reservation. This place used to warm, friendly with great food at a reasonable price. Not any more
Food was good but waiter brought wrong appetizer. Other staff didn’t understand English.
It was a bit too crowded as the tables were so close I could clearly hear the couple's conversation next to me. I didn't like how prominent the tv screens were, either. In contrast, great food overall!
Great as always
Everything on the menu is delicious.
