Uncle Julio's - Fairfax Corner
Uncle Julio’s menu also includes Tex-Mex classics such as tacos, enchiladas & tamales all with a selection of sauces made daily. Insider tip: order the tableside guacamole. It’s prepared for you at your table; if you like it spicy kick it up a notch with fresh chopped jalapenos.
Uncle Julio’s has a vast drink selection. Try our fresh margarita of the day, made to order with fresh fruit. If you prefer a frozen drink then the Swirl is definitely the perfect choice. The Swirl is frozen sangria & frozen margarita layered together dating back to 1987.
For reservations, please allow up to 15 minutes for us to prepare your table.
Awful service and food. We had reservations and still waited. Order time for food was worse.
Uncle Julio’s food is great, but the restaurant is noisy, cold, and crowded. The new payment system left much to be desired as we had to wait 10 minutes for a receipt.
Our server was awesome! Super nice, accommodating, and friendly. The ambiance is great for a fun evening catching up with friends.
Unable to find our Open Table reservation, despite showing our confirmation. Was told not to worry they could seat us anyway. With their electronic check system we were charged someone else’s check. When brought to their attention we were shown a net check instead of reversing the charge and charging the correct amount.
Uncle Julio's is a great casual atmosphere that has authentic Mexican food. Great place to bring friends, family etc.
Good place all around, service was slow though.
Salsa was perfect as usual! Fajita’s were great as were the enchiladas. Seared Tuna Tacos were not up to par, almost a tick spoiled. The server removed them from the bill as a result. Service was fantastic! I will order the tacos again as this was not the norm.
Food was average at best. What was served to us was NOT authentic Mexican food. My dish was smothered with way too much cheese and the tortilla wrappers were only half filled. I ended up with a small spoonful of rice and beans and the beans tasted like they came directly out of a can from Giant Food or Safeway.
All in all our experience was moderate at best. I rate the food two stars and the service was four. The ambiance was mediocre at best.
We chose Uncle Julio's for a birthday celebration mainly because of the chocolate pinata. When I made my reservation on Open Table, I noted that we were celebrating a birthday. On the day of the dinner, I called to confirm my reservation and informed the restaurant that we planned to order the chocolate pinata for a birthday, and the person on the phone offered to have Happy Birthday written on the pinata display. We were very disappointed that this did not materialize. Our server was aware we were celebrating a birthday, but no acknowledgement, no candle, and no writing. In addition to this disappointment, the kitchen was unable to keep up with orders that night and our entrees took almost an hour to arrive. The manager came by to tell us about the problems and took $15 off the tab. The food was good. Juanitas platter is good option for people who can't decide. The chicken and steak fajitas were tasty, but were not served sizzling on the plate. Although disappointed by the lack of a birthday greeting, the chocolate lover's chocolate pinata was excellent.
Had dinner with my Husband. I had the crunchy beef tacos and he had the soft tuna tacos. The tacos were very good; the rice is not so good. The chips and salsa and guacamole was also very good. So, overall the food was fine, but the wait staff need to be trained to speak more slowly and loudly. The restaurant was very loud and the wait staff who approached our table spoke rapidly and too softly. We had tell them to start over a couple times so that we could hear and understand them above the din of the restaurant.
Such a disappointment. Came here for dinner with good friends. The service was terrible, the food way too spicy, drinks weak. Never again.
I reserved for a business Happy Hour and the entire group was disappointed that there weren't any deals or Happy Hour pricing. I believe some drinks were $1 off. The waitress told us the fresh margarita of the day was a Pineapple blackberry margarita and we were really excited just to be told moments later it was actually Watermelon flavor. It was far from busy the duration of our visit Tuesday 4-7pm, and still the service was not great. The "Queso" was disappointing as it was some kind of mild yellow with chunks of tomato and such in it. Our group basically shared a steak quesadilla, chicken quesadilla, table side guacamole, and like 3 guac/"queso" plates, a few beers and various margaritas for a total of $180 before tax/tip. It wasn't too loud which was very nice because we could actually talk about some work stuff, but Overall I don't think it was worth it and I would not refer anyone to this location nor will I be scheduling another Happy Hour here...
Nice atmosphere and good food, especially the chips and queso and guacamole.
Comfort food - I can chow down and save it for later. I get the cheese enchiladas and make sure I get a big plate so I can take home and reheat. They have awesome enchiladas. I get two different sauces and extra rice. I love getting the soft tortillas that are fresh and hot. I love the queso too. On this trip we did brunch and it was delish. We got the table side guacamole. We were celebrating a birthday and they really made it special.
Great food and drinks!
Uncle Julio’s gets better with every visit. I, a spicy food fanatic, was very impressed with out waiter’s initiative to make my food extractly as I like it - as spicy as possible. He noticed i was ordering spicy stuff so he brought me the spicier variety of salsa and also fresh-cut habaneros and jalapeños for my tacos. The service was fast, the food was great, and the experience was awesome! Northern Virginia needs more Mexican restaurants like this!
It all started as we walked in the door, very crowded. Hosts did not know what they were doing, walkins were sat before reservations. We were given a buzzer even when we had a reservation, waited an additional 15 minutes for our table. Host walked us to our table that she stated that was being clean for 15 minutes. Host did not bring the cocktail menu but just threw the menus on the table. Then our sever came dropped the “appetizer” as in chips on the table and said she will be back with drinks. Took the server an additional 15 minutes to take our drink orders and bring them. All uncle julios have salsa accompanying the chips, however all the restaurants I have been to the salads are and have been warm. However not this time, our sauce was cold, and I asked her if she could bring fresh and warm salsa and she did not know what I was saying, instead said that she would microwave it, i didn’t think that was right. We ordered our food as soon as she got to our table, our sodas were flat, no gas, but flat. The manager came to drop off the “warm salsa” and we mentioned the drinks, he said he would bring new and fresh drinks, never did the manager come back. Once our food was coming we made space for our food, our food was thrown on the table, arms of the servers crossed our face, never gave I felt the disrespect. Our server did not suggestively sell anything, no side guacamole or cheese. We had no motivation on ordering more food because we weren’t treated nicely or even as guests. Everything we ordered as a “side” was charged double. A side or cheese, sour cream was charged two times. Overall we were unsatisfied, we brought our family member for a birthday dinner as her first time at Uncle Julios and we were embarrassed about this. Definitely won’t come back to this location but we will be going to Reston and One Loundon where this does not happen.
Do NOT order the fish tacos. Fish was complete mush.
They were very accommodating to changes in my reservation within two hours of actual reservation. Service and variety of a menu for Mexican food was very good. Best Mexican/Tex Mex in the DMV area for price. Would recommend and will definitely return.
Great as usual with very tasty filet mignon fajitas. Had to track our server down several times but overall good experience and will go again!
After checking in a little late for our 645 reservation, we were still seated immediately. Given the chaotic atmosphere, service was still great and prompt literally by everyone in the restaurant. Drinks and food were AMAZING (I enjoy alcohol but the handcrafted cocktails were seriously done right!) As for my entree I ordered grilled vegetable fajitas, which is an awesome vegetarian option (really just a great option in general). My sister boasted about her chicken and steak fajitas as well. We’ll definitely dine again.
Drinks and food were great, as usual. The only issue was the baby mouse running around!
Good but my nachos arrived cold and the cheese wasn’t even melted.
Food was only ok. Great chips, meh fish tacos, good fajitas, average margarita. Really loud. Too many other better Tex Mex places around. We won't go back.
Our waiter Orlando was outstanding and his recommendations proved to be excellent and well received thank- you,we all enjoyed our meal.
Food and drinks were subpar. I think it’s just this location. I heard the others were good.
Excellent food and service. The chocolate piñata desert was over the top!
It was my daughter's 28th birthday, on Sunday 8/19. Uncle Julio's was her choice for our family dinner and it did not disappoint. She and her husband are fans of UJ's but my wife and I were less familiar with what they had to offer. Not a problem but I thought I remembered it as somewhat more expensive than other Mexican restaurants in Northern Virginia. What we found, however, was that it was a cut above with regard to food quality, service, bar drinks, and comfort on our recent visit. It was a memorable birthday dinner for our entire family.
Unfortunately quality has gone down,
The food never disappoints. Unfortunately the service was horrible. We waited at least 15 mins before ever being spoken to at our table. Our drinks took forever and we were never asked for refills. After everyone’s food came except for one person, she waited at least another 10 mins before her food came. When the bill came-after we asked several times-she did not run the credit ADT so we had to wait another 15 mins to find the manager finally to run it. Ik ur family has gone to Uncle Julio’s for years and always loved the food. It’s a shame the service does not live up to the kitchen staff expertise.
Uncle Julio's is great, all of their food is made from scratch and you can tell. Definitely recommend for brunch/lunch/dinner.
This was one of the best restaurants we have been to in a long time that checked all of our boxes I will definitely be back and recommend to all my friends and family!
Went to Uncle Julios for the wonderful margaritas. VERY disappointed. Tasted like they changed the formula to a sour mix of some kind. YUCK!
The entrance is not clearly marked, and once inside there is no space to wait that isn't in the way of the bar area. The noise level was horrific, dance club level. The salsa is so runny it ran off the slippery, deep fried chips. Our meat was bland, the beans barely cooked, and the rice dry and flavorless. My enchiladas were drowning in a Velveeta-yellow queso that tasted exactly like Nacho Cheese Doritos. The pureed green and red sauces for my husband's plate were overpoweringly sweet with no other taste. For a place that brags on homemade, it sure did taste over processed with barely a bit of texture.
On the upside we had a nice waitress, and the kitchen works fast.
Every time I go I am reminded why I should have chosen someplace else. Dinner for 4 was almost $100 no alcohol and one appetizer plus dinner. Very noisy and hard to hear let alone have a conversation
Ambiance was good. Food was over priced, but flavorful. I would go back again.
We had a team lunch to celebrate some recent milestones we successfully accomplished. The staff and service were great. The food was delicious.
I had gone with a friend about a month prior and it was good. I was excited to take my in laws and husband there as I had really enjoyed my experience. I took my mother in law there for her birthday and it was a totally different experience. The server asked about my daughter and my order order 4 times, as he wasnt understanding our request(we asked for cheese and onion enchiladas with sour cream sauce instead of the red sauce it came with..pretty easy order.) The food came out coldish(cheese was hard and the sauce had completely set up, beans and rice were cold). My husband's order (Juanitas platter) was dry and my mother in laws chicken enchiladas had a hard shell from being overcooked. Aside from taking our order, we only saw our server two other times-to ask if we wanted dessert and to give us the check. The table side guacamole was great, but that is about it. Very disappointed!!
Although this was our first dinner at this location, we are long time customers of Uncle Julio's probably 20+ years both in Northern Virginia and in Texas. Fajitas are the best ever of any restaurant we have frequented. Frozen margaritas were a little weaker than normal. Service was outstanding. Food was delivered hot within 4-7 minutes of our order and the restaurant was at least 80% full. Cajetas were outstanding. Uncle Julio's is the best place for Tex/Mex food anywhere. With the exception of the frozen margaritas, we were glad that the quality has not suffered over the years and that the service is exceptional.
I love the queso. I could eat it all the time. I love the cheese enchiladas and I get different sauces on them. The chips and salsa are always good. On this occasion, it took a little longer than usual. My Dad asked for the pork tamales. As a southerner, he wanted some yellow mustard with them which they didn't have. Also he said they were a little dry. I got my same ole' which I love the cheese enchiladas with extra rice, no beans and no onions. Came out perfect.
