While undoubtedly lovely, and served by an impeccable staff, who are absolutely first rate, the chef is the problem. The food is not up to the level it should be; it is misguided in its approach, sloppy in its execution. We were expecting a transporting experience, and had a challenging, not very wonderful experience. One of the diners in our party sent back two of the dishes served for improvements (missing elements, excess salt) , and the third dish was just drastically misconceived (it was advertised as a certain type of soup which is a clear soup, and came out as a thick cream soup). I respect that the chef might feel entitled to transform certain things into his or her own versions of that dish, but it needs to be an improvement over the basic version. The food was overall somewhat disappointing.
After returning here for many years we are never disappointed and savor every bit of the food and wine experience. Service is always outstanding.
The food, service, and overall experience was outstanding.
Impeccable service, delicious food, overall spectacular evening
Meeting friends from Florida
We were there for two special events—wedding and birthday. It was nice but didn’t feel more special than any other time. We’d asked for them to push our reservation 30 minutes due to scheduling challenges. They declined to be accommodating which may have been understandable but when we got there the place was nearly empty and remained so most of the night. The food was very good and the service too but it just didn’t feel as special as I’d expected for this occasion. Like any other dinner on any other night.
Amazing dining experience all around. Wonderful service and outstanding meal. Can not wait to go back.
Wow. An amazing experience and dinner. We were celebrating our 35th Wedding Anniversary. The food was out of this world! THE best Rack of Lamb I have ever tasted! The staff was wonderful. Our thanks to our Executive Chef, and all the staff at the White Barn Inn for a truly magical night!
Loved our first experience. Ambience was perfect. My twins celebrated their birthday and White Barn made it really special. Food was awesome.
Always a fantastic experience- dining , ambience and phenomenal service. After 25 years having eaten there it is still an experience. I know they have had to lower the bar related to jackets but male diners should treat it with the respect and effort it deserves given the thought and effort from the time you step into the barn til the final desert treat.
The barn creates a uniquely memorable and romantic ambience. It was the perfect setting for our 20th anniversary dinner.
Food was excellent and the staff was all very friendly and professional at the same time. It was the perfect place to celebrate our first wedding anniversary! You must try the beef tartar, lobster bisque and the lobster entree was divine. We loved it all! Highly recommend this place.
Extraordinary food and preparations. Superb wine list.Very well-stocked bar. Superb service. Piano bar added to a lovely evening. Pricey and still worth it .
Romantic and a welcome addition to traveling to Maine and Kennebunk.
Just exquisite!! I brought my mother (and son) for mother’s day lunch and it was just superb!! From the Parker House roll to the gift of homemade granola, it was just spectacular 😊
Our third dinner at the White Barn Inn in the past 30 years and, as always, it was spectacular. Of course the food, wine pairings, and service were second-to-none. However, what impressed us this time was the relative value of the meal. While the up-front fixed price menu cost ($125) may present a bit of sticker shock, when you consider that you're getting an appetizer, intermezzo (i.e. a 2nd appetizer), and main course, and dessert for a World Class dining experience it's definitely a bargain. We're already planning a return visit - and don't plan to wait another decade before we return.
The food was incredible and the service was perfect. Great experience. Something you must do when vacationing in the area. As a foodie this is a must do. Great experience.
Wonderful dining experience at all levels. The food and service are impeccable.
Very lovely and romantic restaurant. Food was quite good but for the price I have had a lot better and more inventive. Still a nice place for a special occasion.
We have been to White Barn Inn on several special occasions and like all the times before our Easter Brunch didn’t disappoint! We brought my husband’s college age kids and they also loved it!
This was our second Easter at the White Barn, and we loved it even more than last year. Not only did they remember my specific allergy issues, they knew what table we had sat at, and noticed which person was not with us this year. Food was incredible, service impeccable, and ambiance perfect—complete with live piano music.
Just exquisite!! Happy to say the Easter tradition continued. The food was spectacular and the service was impeccable right from the moment that we arrived.
Celebrated my birthday with fine dining experience at the White Barn Inn. The service was absolutely tremendous. Food was impeccable. We could not have felt more comfortable and taken care of. It was truly a special dinner. Thank you for making this a memorable experience. The drinks were also superb!
We had a great date night at the White Barn Inn. Very romantic atmosphere , including a piano player. This restaurant is an experience. The staff were always available and customer service was top notch. My only criticism was that my main dish was too salty for me , but every other course was on point. I only write that as there’s always room for improvement.
I would recommend this restaurant for special occasions without hesitation.
The best dining experience I've ever had. I felt like all my senses were touched!!
The food, the flavors, the art work. It was everything!!!
Worth the money. Everyone and everything was top shelf
Great experience. Food was deliciously prepared and very well presented. All staff members were delightful.
I would highly recommend the White Barn Inn for special occasions. The ambiance and service were top notch and the food presentation and amuse bouche was amazing - we ended up with three desserts! Outstanding experience in New England.
We had the most spectacular evening dining at The White Barn Inn. The White Barn is back to its' original elegance under the new ownership, and everything was just simply perfect! The only drawback was the gentleman talking on his phone behind our table, so our suggestion is to enforce a no cell phone policy. Other than that, it was elegant and just perfect! It is a special place and well worth the drive and the price!
Chris B was our host for a fantastic dinner tonight. The selections for the 3 course dinner and dessert were amazing. Duck breast cooked med rare was melt in you mouth delicious and the braised short rib fell completely apart just as it should. Such a special dinner in a romantic and beautiful setting. We would definitely ask for Chris B again and would return for a special occasion.
Very nice place. My fourth or 5th time at the WBI. Ate in the Bistro for Maine Restaurant Week, making it an outstanding value. My chocolate souffle was heavenly with the cashew ice cream. Enjoyed my dish with short rib, delightful mashed potatoes, and broccoli. The croutons in my ceasar were a little pedestrian, but the anchovies worked very well with the salad. ( I normally don't do anchovies in my ceasar salad.) My wife took home half her brussel sprouts they were so tasty. She enjoyed her salmon and the Profiteroles she had for dessert.
The entire staff was excellent, I think the hostess was actually the manager, very professional and very nice. Neal, Christina, as well as the people that I didn't catch thier names were all great. The parking valet was a surprise, a nice surprise on these cold maine evenings.
The White Barn is our "over all" most favorite place to go. Yes, it is pricey, but it's worth it. It's set in a beautiful old barn, which we love!! With a big window set for the season! The atmosphere is exceptional. The staff is so nice and so efficient! The White Barn dining experience is a must!! We love it!!
Besides the lobster main course being mushy, everything else was exquisite; the agnolotti, pork belly, duck break and ribeye were perfectly done. Service was excellent.
Awesome in every regard....
Amazing Valentine's dinner, great service, incredible food. Definitely expensive, but for a once in a while experience it's worth it.
Loved everything... thank you
The White Barn Inn is absolutely lovely; romantic, warm and comfortable while being 'dressed up'. The people from the valet to the wait staff and hostesses are all helpful, professional and friendly. If service and atmosphere are the priorities for an event, it'd get 5 stars.
Background, we expected to splash out financially when booking the reservation, we also expected to be wowed or at least very happy with the food, respectively we did and we weren't. For two of us with tip, not drinking much, i.e. no cocktails, just wine pairings with dinner, no coffee after, we clocked out with tip for two of us at +$600.
The menu is prix fixe, but for example, the selections for the second course were underwhelming at best, soup and quenelles of sorbet. The sorbet selections should have been palate cleansers, the rose one was very good. Oddly there were also upcharges for many ingredients, which at these prices and at this sort of establishment just shouldn't happen. All of this could have been forgiven if the food we did get was sublime, it just wasn't. Almost every course was stodgy, even the lobster main was held down by a too heavy sauce. The beet pasta in the first course was good, another pasta from that same course was thick and heavy with a lot of salt. Desserts were too sweet, but they looked good: we couldn't finish dessert or the wine that went with it. It felt like they were trying hard yet it felt dated.
We've eaten at many Michelin starred restaurants, and stayed at Chateaux Relais inns, paid less and had food to die for. Now living in Portland, with the exceptional restaurants that have garnered Portland the honor of being the #1 city for food in the USA, The White Barn Inn is going to have to figure this out or die as a restaurant where people drive for the food. So...next birthday we'll stay in Portland. Thanks though to the lovely staff, they couldn't have been nicer and the ambiance was magic.
We've been to White Barn Inn on many occasions, but had been unable to return for several years due to living out-of-state. In the interim, Chef Padilla has been appointed Executive Chef. We were blown away by his creations, which marry the tradition of this restaurant with a new and contemporary style. The lobster main course was a particular highlight, with the caviar beautifully complementing the champagne beurre blanc. The service remains unparalleled, with servers able to describe dishes and field inquiries with grace.
The entire experience was 5 star. Wonderful ambience, great service, terrific menu.
Wonderful special occasion choice
Have been a regular for thirty years or more. A great special occasion place. Bill from New Castle NH
