Woodlands Restaurant Piccadilly
The restaurant is ideal for easy dining with a buzzy brasserie atmosphere. Based in the heart of Theatre and just a stone's throw from Leicester Sq ideal for a pre or post theatre dining. Our menu includes a delicious and healthy Tandoori / Bar B-Que menu (Spicy broccoli, paneer, cauliflower etc). We are proud to serve delicious Dosas and traditional north India fayre such as rich jack fruit curry and delicious Channa Bathura (famous football sized bread). Don't forget to sample our Organic Wine List...you really can taste the difference as these wines are much purer and lighter with a longer finish.
We booked a table for 6pm as we were going to the theatre nearby at 7.30. This should have been plenty of time, but the service was dreadful!
It took 15 minutes for someone to take our order and by 7pm our food still hadn't arrived. We had to ask three times for three bill and were almost late to our show - a very stressful experience.
Excellent food and service but we resent 12 per cent bring added automatically. We would have tipped but almost felt like not doing because of this. It should be voluntary.
Wonderful food. Super friendly staff. A fantastic evening, excellent veggie London choice
Great food, ideal portion size, convenient location.
We arrived early for our 6pm reservation and there was no problem getting a table. It was super quiet and there was a one waitress on. She seemed a bit stressed and was clearly struggling to attend to the four tables of guests. We sat for nearly 10 mins before being asked for a drinks order and we had thought about leaving numerous times.
We chose to stay and had our order taken. Later on more staff came as more customers arrived and suddenly it felt like they could cope with the existing customers and be attentive.
I’m pleased we stayed because it was delicious food and incredibly convenient for a pre-show meal before seeing Ian McKellen at Harold Pinter Theatre.
Would go again for the food but might check out other places in the area first.
I have been visiting the Woodlands almost from when it first opened. The food is always excellent and the service fast and friendly. Highly recommended!
I visited Woodlands tonight, for the second time. I wanted to share my experience with my friends as I had a lovely time in my previous visit. The food is tasty and a great value for money. The service was great and the staff were attentive. I will definitely go back again.
Outstanding food, attentive service and thoroughly e notable evening.
Had a lovely meal and were served quite quickly! It was very busy and loud outside but inside was noticeably calmer
Food is really nice and well presented, Dosa was delicious and a good selection. Restaurant was very quiet for a Saturday night! Service was excellent and staff were very attentive, maybe because they were quiet, and helped talk through selections. Good selection of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. On the expensive side, but then it is just off Leicester Square.
Nice to return after several years, meal was delicious and really welcomed the range of vegetarian, gluten free and vegan options suiting all ages and tastes. Pricing reasonable for the location. Waiters were friendly and professional. Slight downside are the toilets could do with a bit of a refresh and they are down a steep flight of stairs. However would recommend this restaurant
Outstanding and authentic Indian food. Friendly but inattentive service. Drab dated decor. I would still go back for the terrific food.
It was brilliant to eat in a fully vegetarian Indian restaurant and every dish that we ate was sublime. If I am in London again I will definitely go for another meal at Woodlands.
Awesome food, good service and clean place!
I was asked for a tip on top of a 12.5% service charge. I didn't like refusing to give a second 'tip' and I won't go back.
It was ok and I have had better considering the price we paid
The food was excellent! Perfect size portions and excellent quality. Exactly what you crave when you want Indian food. Restaurant is very small and quaint — in a great walkable location too.
Food was really bland. We paid 55 quid for two beers, one naan bread, one starter and two curries. My sister is vegan and her aubergine curry was really bland whilst my jalfrezi lacked spice and was a tiny portion.
Really quite disappointing as the menu sounded great.
I go here a lot. A well known but also undiscovered spot with great quality food. I love the Thalis because you can try so many things!
Delicious food but tiny portions make it expensive to actually eat and fill up here!
It was great
Woodlands is an international chain of Indian vegetarian restaurants. Customers at this branch always include a number of Indian people, who presumably are satisfied with what they will get. We’ve eaten here many times, and have always enjoyed the food. This is not a restaurant for an occasion or for a whole evening, in some ways it’s more of a cafe, but if you like this sort of food, it is ideal for a quick meal before or after a film or play.
The food was tasty, on the whole, but the service really let Woodlands down. We had to call the waitress over to order our drinks, and the mains were brought out while we were still eating our starters (notwithstanding that there were only 2 other tables of customers in the restaurant, so the timings shouldn't have been that hard to work out), and as we were on a 2 person table, we had to wolf our starters to make room for the main courses and sides. When it came to paying the bill, we added a (just over) 10% tip, and the waitress rudely tapped the bill - when I pointed out that the 12.5% charge was discretionary, she didn’t say anything and just took our payment. The food was nice, but I’ve eaten tasty Indian food for elsewhere, and for less (albeit the restaurant is in central London, so the prices were in line with what you’d expect there), and because of the service issues, I won’t be going back.
Amazing food and amazing service!
Food was excellent as always. Loved the old favourites such as the street food starters and the dosas. The Hyderabadi aubergine was delicious. Portion sizes were much smaller than they have been in the past but the menu is still great for sharing and so works well overall. Great choice of beers. Love that they still have Cobra on draught. And great to see a new IPA on the list. There were hiccups with the way our dishes were served which was a first in all the 20+ years of coming here. However, the way this was handled by Management as soon as it had come to their notice, with ice cream being on the house and an extra gulab jamun, is testimony to their overriding mission to leave the customer happy no matter what, no matter new or loyal. All I’d done was point out the facts to the waiters. Didn’t have to say anymore. Reassuring to know that there are places that make no excuses. I’ll definitely be back!
Delicious vegetarian food, friendly, though in a few cases inexperienced, staff.
Dont go there if you dont like spicy food even if they said that some food Is not spicy, becouse Is not true.
Amazed I'd not been to this place in picadilly before. It was good. But pricey but that's to be expected with somewhere quite so central.
Excellent vegan south Indian food.Value for money. Recommend reservation as it does not seat many.
We loved this place. I am a vegan and there was so much choice. The food was totally delicious. Service was excellent. I asked about a sauce and was told how the ingredients and method. Would thoroughly recommend that everyone eat here.
I've been here a few times and it's always lovely. The food is really tasty - especially the Bhel.
Lovely food, good service. Look forward to coming back soon. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Too expensive and tiny portions, service level is ok.
South Indian cuisine is comparatively difficult to find, and this is an excellent representative with a broad menu. Every item was well prepared with delicate flavouring and enjoyable spice. Worth a detour.
Great food with some unusual touches. A but dark on the lighting front.
I booked online and was expecting a more pleasant and cozy restaurant. the seating was decent but felt like sitting in a hallway. The food was too cold upon arrival and the waitress was not so friendly. She started clearing off the table when one of us was still eating. the food overall was very tasty, but i would definately order more vegetables next time. we only had a curry sauce and some rice although i did ask the waitress what we should order out of all the categories. overall not bad, but not good either.
Really lovely evening just very slow to get served, think they were short staffed though, would go again
Fantastic meal and the staff were so friendly and helpful - explaining the dishes so well - would definitely recommend
I really liked this restaurant and was surprised to find it right at the heart of the West End, though I hadn't heard of it before. The menu, provided you can cope without meat or fish, is strong and we received clear guidance from the staff about the kind of dishes that would best suit us. Everything we tried was very tasty and I would definitely go back. The only disappointment for me was that, as well as adding a 12.5% service charge, when I went to pay by card, I was asked if I wanted to add a gratuity. Had I not looked at the bill in detail, I could easily have added another 10%, meaning I would have been paying nearly an additional one-quarter of the total sum set out on the menu. I really think the restaurant should change this. But, to be fair, it was the only negative in what was a very good experience.
Really lovely way to spend my birthday! Can’t wait to come back!
Very nice vegetarian food. We really enjoyed our visit.
